Patterico's Pontifications

Wow

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 10:41 pm

Hot Air is losing Bryan Preston.

And adding a new blogger tomorrow morning.

It ain’t me. Any guesses?

Prediction: Gateway Pundit.

Failing that, Goldstein or See Dubya.

Got a better guess?

UPDATE: Rusty Shackleford! That’s a good one, I think.

As should be clear, I don’t know.

UPDATE x2: OK, as long as I’m throwing out names, let’s throw a couple more in the mix: MKH and Karl from Protein Wisdom.

UPDATE x3: Bob Owens is also a decent guess. Beyond that, I got nothin’.

UPDATE x4: The pick has been announced. It’s a good one.

  1. Iowahawk, actually…

    His parodies are great…

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  2. Well, that would fit the closing of his blog nicely . . .

    Patterico (4bda0b)

  3. Yeah… I mean, he’s got free-time now…

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  4. You could always throw Confederate Yankee inro rhe mix.

  6. It seems a little too twisty to be Iowahawk. His blog closing would almost certainly have to be a hoax and that would have a big chance of backfiring. As far as it being Dr. Rusty Shackleford, I thought that was Allahpundit’s mild-mannered alter-ego, isn’t it? 😉

  7. The Confederate Yankee would be a big get, but he’s got a real job I think :(. HotAir is so big that it needs unemployed people so they can post more often.

Plus, they need a devout social conservative to balance out AP’s continuous attacks on Christianity. I don’t travel in those circles, so only have one guess. LaShawn Barber!

  8. See Dubya has been posting a lot there lately – in the comments sections as well as his own threads. I thought he was just bored.
Bryan probably made a good career move — his blogging skills were limited by his tendency to be kind of thin-skinned when posters disagreed with him, even polite reasonable disagreements.

Sounds like it took Malkin by surprise though.

  9. I can’t imagine he discussed it with her, if only because she really does seem the sort who would have done her best to talk him out of it.

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  10. The real “get” of the century would be Charles Johnson.

Town Hall is just as big as Hot Air, and MKH is managing editor. No chance she’d make that move.

LaShawn Barber or Baldilocks would fit nicely.

    But here’s my guess…how about…FrankJ?

  11. What kind of money is in a site that big? Are we talking good salary and benefits, or free nachos and a share in the coupon pool?

    martin (d3fe32)

  12. I don’t even get nachos, but I hardly post. What Mr. or Ms. X will get, I have no idea.

    Patterico (14a582)

  13. You.

    Patterico (4bda0b)

  14. Nope. She did ask me at one point, but never replied to any of my follow-ups. She must have Googled me and thought twice…

    Jim Treacher (592cb4)

  15. Heh. Well, it’s a good choice.

    Patterico (4bda0b)

  16. I am happy to see Ed join HotAir, but very sorry to see CQ disappear

    Don Singleton (dd264a)

  17. It obviously was not me, but am flattered you thought of me.

    Karl (9d0906)

  18. Not me, you mean? Probably.

    Jim Treacher (592cb4)

  19. She probably found out that Jim Treacher’s sites don’t even allow hyperlinks.

    Cap’n… good choice!

    Kevin (3efe14)

  20. Don’t even allow hyperlinks? Huh?

    Jim Treacher (592cb4)

  21. C’mon, I’ve been bugging you about it for over a year. Don’t claim to not know what I’m talking about. 400 char comment limit + not allowing links is a recipe for mediocrity.

You’re a very funny individual, Mr. Treacher, but the annoyances associated with your comment system force me not to read your stuff :(. I suspect I’m not alone.

    Kevin (3efe14)

  22. Hey, let me show you a few things that can’t be done on a Treacher blog! Patterico is nice enough to allow his viewers comments to be virtually free! So not only is character count a not a concern, but also he allows links!

Sure, if you put too many links in one post it will probably get caught by his spam filter, but they still get through, sooner or later. And links are very helpful in making a point. Well, not MY links, of course, but other people’s are.

    Character count: 689

    Kevin (3efe14)

  23. Oh, you’re talking about the Daily Gut. That’s not my site. Talk to Gutfeld. Even he’ll admit the publishing software stinks.

We allow hyperlinks over at Blowing Smoke! If anybody but Kevin cares…

    Jim Treacher (592cb4)

  24. ^ that’s a good site. Pop culture with a twist.

    Vermont Neighbor (c6313b)

  25. I look forward to reading Blowing Smoke once your other blog, dailygut.com is fixed! How nice it will be to comment again on one or maybe even both of your blogs!

Trying to lay the blame for dailygut’s lameness on Gutfeld is weak. Cut it out. It’s your blog, and everyone knows it. Fix the damned thing.

    Kevin (3efe14)

  26. You’re being silly. It’s Gutfeld’s site. I was posting there for a while, but I hardly blog there anymore. But if it means you’re going to stay away from me, I guess that’s the price I’ll have to pay.

    Jim Treacher (592cb4)

  27. My sister said I was being silly once. ONCE. Regardless, I thumb downed Redeye on the TiVo because I so disliked your comment antics on dailygut.com months ago. Are you saying that my distaste was misguided, and that I should direct it towards Greg and not you? Fair enough. I will.

I apologize to you, Mr. Treacher. A quick perusal of that site shows that you are no longer part of the problem. I’ll view Blowing Smoke soon, but under a fake name so you won’t ban me :).
