Manchester Union Leader to Hillary Clinton: “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire”

From today’s Manchester Union Leader (New Hampshire) editorial:

Hillary’s word: It’s worth nothing

COURTING VOTERS in Iowa and New Hampshire, last August Sen. Hillary Clinton signed a pledge not to “campaign or participate” in the Michigan or Florida Democratic primaries. She participated in both primaries and is campaigning in Florida. Which proves, again, that Hillary Clinton is a liar.

Clinton kept her name on the Michigan ballot when others removed theirs, she campaigned this past weekend in Florida, and she is pushing to seat Michigan and Florida delegates at the Democratic National Convention. The party stripped those states of delegates as punishment for moving up their primary dates.

“I will try to persuade my delegates to seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida,” Clinton said last week, after the New Hampshire primaries and Iowa caucuses were safely over.

Clinton coldly and knowingly lied to New Hampshire and Iowa. Her promise was not a vague statement. It was a signed pledge with a clear and unequivocal meaning.

She signed it thinking that keeping the other candidates out of Michigan and Florida was to her advantage, but knowing she would break it if that proved beneficial later on. It did, and she did.

New Hampshire voters, you were played for suckers.

There’s nothing newsworthy in the headline for the editorial. If they inserted a word and said “Hillary’s word: It’s still worth nothing”, the headline would have held more meaning for readers.

  2. Even then, that is incredibly strong language. Wow.

  3. It’s the Manchester Union Leader, and they have never been known for pulling their punches. Unfortunately, they are known has a staunchly conservative editorial board, so their editorial will likely have the same effect as an anti-Bush screed from the New York Times. Not to say that they don’t raise excellent points, but I doubt if Ms. Clinton’s duplicity will be particularly harmful. This kind of behavior is sort of expected from the Clintons.

  4. Evidently, Hillary didn’t find her own voice – she lies just like Bill.

  5. JVW – The MUL endorsed McCain in December. I’m not sure how that fits with your theory.

  6. Yep, I noticed that too. I know the paper has mellowed some since the elder Loeb died, but once you acquire a certain reputation it tends to stay with you no matter the changes.

  7. Anybody that says hillary clinton won fl is not telling the truth. It’s known that barrack won the vote base on the voting of today. her victory is tainted becuase fl voters had already voted so it was a unfair advantage.. it’s like saying go at the finish line and you take two steps forward I think that obama will win the general and I hope that everybody puts there support behind him.. we already seen them try to play the race card but now there trying to play the black and brown card.. to all my hispanic brothers we all come from a similar background and they will try to divide us just to make there self the canidate don’t be fool by this.. there is no black and brown divide no pun but white people have been trying to seperate us for too long and i’m upset that my own party would resort to this type of tatics. I just hope that white people don’t turn this into a inferior complex, we blacks and browns don’t want your spot in society we just want america to be equal for all and it’s time for change we come to far to go back to judging people base on what they look like please look into your hearts and do the right thing
    vote obama
a party divided is what the republican want

  8. “Black and brown”?

If you think that Obama is the candidate to represent the Hispanic population you don’t know enough about him. There’s a reason that Hillary trounced in Nevada, and picked up the most votes amongst Hispanic voters. Sorry, esse…

As for this editorial… blah. “New Hampshire was lied to!” I still can’t believe the rest of the USA allows NH to lead it in ANYTHING. Sad.

A paper who endorsed John McCain bashing Hillary Clinton. Not really news lol.

  9. You people are really stupid…Hillary was allowed to raise money in Flordia but not campaign..which she did. She came back to the state after the elections were over..All actions were ok . Gee try getting the facts straight..My guess is that you have such hatered for the Clintons that truth is a minor detail…all which says more about you then the Clintons.

  10. All the Democratic candidates agreed in advance that Florida and Michigan would not count. If Hillary felt so strongly about “Florida’s need to be heard”, why not state it publicly at the time?

If it is an issue of PRINCIPLE, as she now claims, why didn’t she speak out months ago?

    Vik (5e3bc3)

  11. Because months ago it wasn’t definate that MI and FL would benifit her. I mean, if they had gone to Obama, she’s be holding the party line of “nope, you’re SOL”.

It’s on principle all right… She just never said what that principle was, exactly. It’s the same one she uses for ALL her decisions – “Does this benifit me?”

  12. Cathy- stinks doesn’t it? And think of this, this is how the Tin hatters have been treating THEIR PRESIDENT for eight years. /sarc
As for the reality, no one is surprised by this are they?!?!? He didn’t have sex with that woman- oh wait he did, but then again the definition of is-is-is-. A little lie lie this is no big deal right Hill?!? yeeeeesh

  13. Notice how Hillary was ahead in all states but once Obama started working the state she lost votes. Hillary won fl. on by name recognition only. If Obama would have campaigned there she would of either lost or only won my 2 to 3 points. So florida means nothing. Notice as well the media is not buying it. MSNBC did not bother making news of it. And CNN gave it a little column just to the right. She is trying to give hype to nothing and it is not working. By the way a new poll came out. Clinton Led Obama in California by 12 pt now its down to just 9pt.www.gallup.com

  14. If it was an important issue like a war she would not have done that.

    Oh, wait…

  15. I’m Shocked! Shocked that a Clinton lied! The only stupid people are Democrats that EVER believed that a Clinton can tell the truth or keep a promise.

It says “Clinton kept her name on the Michigan ballot when others removed theirs, she campaigned this past weekend in Florida, and she is pushing to seat Michigan and Florida delegates at the Democratic National Convention” doofus.

  17. Wow a news paper is aciualy calling hillary a liar just like bill

  18. It’s really easy to tell when Bill or Hilary are lying: Check to see if their mouth is moving.

  19. Hey, Union-Leader! Now you know the way conservatives have felt about your man McCain for years.

    L.N. Smithee (d1de1b)

  20. Wow! I think their convention is going to be a real blood letting. Hee, hee!

She sidestepped a reporter’s question when he asked if she was going to file suit to get the delegates seated. Of course she will! She’s Evita Peron in pantsuits!!

I haven’t seen or read this encounter as yet, but if it’s like others, she probably started out her response either by saying “You know…” or laughing or a combination of both. It’s something I’ve noticed for awhile.

    L.N. Smithee (d1de1b)

  22. Interesting factiod.

I think the smart thing to do is to not speak of this again until, oh, say, mid October, and only in television advertising aimed at NH general election voters.

  23. I would suggest that the marriage of Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham is invalid, and has to be annulled. After all, their lies are so similar — I did not take delegates from that state — that it’s very clear that they aren’t husband and wife, but really brother and sister, sharing almost every gene except that Y chromosome that Mr Clinton has.

That’s exactly what she did. “You know, I haven’t even figured out….blah, blah.”
