Nicole Richie released from jail in 82 minutes

Uncharacteristically, I don’t have a problem with this. Maybe it’s because she’s pregnant, but I think it’s because I’ve become desensitized to special treatment for celebrities.

Still, I can’t imagine this happening where I live. Of course, my town doesn’t have many celebrities, either.

UPDATE: I’ve changed my mind. Our nation is founded on freedom which includes the concept of equality under the law. Equality means equal rights and equal accountability. When LA County dispenses a different kind of justice for celebrities than for everyday people, it undermines freedom and equality.

  1. In all likelihood, Nicole’s late afternoon commute in LA traffic to and from the jail was more punishing than her 82 minutes behind bars.

  2. *sigh*

Not shocked, don’t care, next please.

  3. Both Ritchie’s and Lohan’s behaviors were much more dangerous to the public than Hilton’s.

  4. Sorry, as a prosecutor who spent most of the last 3 years doing mostly DUIs, I find this fairly outrageous. Of course, this doesn’t compare to Lohan’s deal. Identical conduct, in my state and county, Lohan would very likely have gone to prison. At the very least, if the judge was feeling particularly squishy that day, she’d have been sentenced to 180 days in the county jail, and would serve at least 90 of that.

  5. Considering the prior convictions, I would expect worse for Lohan.

But at this point, I just want promises that their “moron” gene doesn’t pass on to future generations. That’s all I ask.

I don’t think Mary Jo Kopechne would agree.

  7. Shoot, it took me longer than that to get a parking ticket thrown out. The judge sentenced me to time served (ie waiting in the court room)

  8. Aren’t you Kaliforniains embarassed enough yet? Good G-d, OJ, Paris, Lohan ,Ritchie…In G-ds name is your court system EVER going to get it’s head out of it’s butt?!?!?
Question is, is there a way that we can parition California Case law from the rest of the country, so that none of this weirdness can be held as precident for the rest of normal court systems?

  9. Regardless of how much money and support Sheriff Bacca has from the Hollywood elete, you would think someone could run against him and win based upon this sort of favouritism.
