Tony Snow’s Cancer Returns

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 4:38 pm

Tony Snow’s cancer has returned. It’s in his liver.

Best wishes to him.

Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino made the announcement today, and added instructions from Snow to reporters: “Tell them not to bug me.”

What a class act.

UPDATE: Speaking of class acts, Charles Karel Bouley, blogging at the Huffington Post, has this lovely quote:

I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you. Work for Fox News, spinning the truth in to a billion knots and how can your gut not rot? I know, it’s terrible. I admit it. I don’t wish anyone harm, even Tony Snow. And I do hope he recovers or at least does what he feels is best and surrounds himself with friends and family for his journey. But in the back of my head there’s Justin Timberlake’s “What goes around, goes around, comes around, comes all the way back around, ya..”

. . . .

Now, I’ve been brutally honest above, and may have offended some, and for that I’m sorry. Again, I don’t want Tony Snow to suffer and die of cancer. But like many this morning, I had the thought.

Note well, Glenn Greenwald: this is not an anonymous commenter. It is a blogger at one of the top left-wing blogs on the Internet.

Of course, many of the anonymous commenters are with him.

P.S. The commenters’ statements would be meaningful to Glenn Greenwald if 1) you had to register to comment at the Huffington Post; and 2) similar hateful comments about right-wingers had appeared on previous Huffington Post posts; and 3) those previous hateful comments, along with the current hateful comments, had not been deleted. [Bystander hands Patterico a note.] Wait — this just in: all of those things are true.

Well, then. Stand by for the Greenwald denunciation!

UPDATE: Jim Treacher doesn’t wish harm on Charles Karel Bouley. But he had the thought.

  1. I don’t wish anybody harm either.

  2. Not just a blogger, but a weekend talk show host on KGO810 radio in San Francisco, I think…
    Just absoultely terrible form.

  3. I had to read Karel’s biography to place the name. I had totally forgotten that he and his late partner used to have the Karel & Andrew Show on KFI, I think during rush hour drive time. I probably heard the show dozens of times while driving home, but the funny thing is that my only memory of it is their lispy, stereotypically gay voices. I guess it says something about the depth of their analysis that nothing they ever said stayed with me.

  4. No doubt there will be a post by Arianne herself, any moment now, disapproving of her co-blogger’s unfortunate choice of words.

  5. Wow. I had no idea that Justin Timberlake was such a deep, y’know . . . theologian.

  8. I’d be shocked, disgusted, and enraged by the behavior of liberals these past few days, were I not by now inured to their behavior…

  9. Oh Lord, here we go. Charles Karel Bouley, in the comments to the HuffPo piece:

OK, by the amount of evil email and actual death threats I have received, obviously you all misunderstood what I was trying to say or I was not clear.

Got that? Charles Karel Bouley: victim.

Get well soon, Tony. America needs you.

  10. Best wishes to Tony Snow, best wishes to all cancer victims and their families out there.

and Charles way the road rise up to greet you and smack you in the billards

  11. STYLE ALERT.

“[Bystander hands Patterico a note.] Wait — this just in–”

This manages to turn print into a semblance of radio; Kaus does the same enjoyabole trick. Nice, Patterico.

  12. I hate to admit it in this context, but JVW is correct in comment # 3. “Karel” is indeed a KFI alumni. The Karel & Andrew Show had the afternoon drive time slot from 3-7pm (before John & Ken returned to the station).

His on-air partner Andrew was also his romantic partner. Andrew was a mild-mannered nice guy. He was also HIV+ if I recall correctly. He sadly passed away from a heart condition. (The HIV did not contribute to the cause of death.) Karel was nice too when I interacted with him at the station. His comments now are most unfortunate to say the least.

  15. […] Wasn’t much of a debate, I’m afraid: O’R did most of the talking, Sekoff ended up agreeing that bloggers should note when they’ve substantially redacted a post after it’s been published (as Charles Karel Bouley has now done, although he hadn’t originally), and the rest devolved into yet another round of “when is it fair to judge a blog by its commenters?” The sage of Puppetland took it upon himself to draw up some guidelines a few weeks ago, but unfortunately for Sekoff they do not redound to HuffPo’s advantage. 16. You know, Tony Snow is one of the most decent human beings in politics that I have seen in years. He is a man of character and integrity and is very honest. Now some people might not like his political convictions, but he does not lie. I listened to his Radio show before he was White House Spokesman. He is definitely not a bad guy! When I heard his cancer returned I was really saddened. And shame on anybody who would say something like he deserves it. I am equally sad for John Edwards wife. You know when tragedy hits you stop being partisan. You have to be human and show some compassion. Come on!
