1. he was one of the good guys. he never lied to us. the nixon pardon, certainly questionable, the “whip inflation now” buttons, laughably futile, but history will hold him in much higher regard than the two bush presidents. i also liked his wife for the way she addressed problems openly and honestly.
   can we clone him?

3. I posted a photo of Pres. Ford that should come as something of a surprise to those of us who grew up remembering how he was mercilessly spoofed by Chevy Chase as a spastic, grinning fool.

   He was also a great example of how an ex-president ought to behave, with dignity, grace, and a self-deprecating wit.

   He’ll be missed.

   I’ve been thinking about that a lot, particularly as we’ve now got a REAL grinning fool in the White House.

   Ford was an honorable man, a fine public servant and in every human respect interesting. I am sure historians will be returning to the brief period he served this country over and over again.

6. It’s easy to forget how close Ford came to beating Jimmy Carter in 1976. He came back from a 30+ percent poll deficit and narrowed the lead in the last few months. Carter only ended up winning the popular vote by 2%. Imagine all the foolishness we would have been spared over the last 30 years had Ford managed to surge ahead in the final days.
