2. You learn a lot of new things on the internet, but maggots in a political blog is something new.

   As a youth (in the fifties) I was interested in mountain climbing as a result of the conquest of Mt. Everest. In one of the books ( I believe “K2”) about climbing in the Himalayas, several of the moutaineers suffered from frostbite on their toes and feet, and developed gangrene. They could see flies landing on their dressings. Several days later they found maggots poking out of their wounds.

   The doctors told them it not only was not dangerous, but healthy. Maggots eat only dead flesh and keep the wound clean. Eventually the maggots turn into flies and fly away. According to the book, this was fairly common in lesser developed countries.
