Help Wanted: Editorial Position Opens up at WaPo

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:56 pm

The Washington Post says of Judge Luttig’s resignation:

But the friends added that Luttig’s disappointment over the nominations of Roberts and Scalia, combined with uncertainty over when another Supreme Court vacancy would occur, also played a role [in Luttig’s resignation].

Damn that 20-year-old Scalia nomination!

UPDATE: As it turns out, Howard Bashman noticed this before I did (thanks to one of his readers). He says this means that Scalia-Alito is the new O’Connor-Ginsburg.

  1. Wanna bet that the writer wrote “Scalito” and the editor corrected it to “Scalia” rather than “Alito”?

  2. Could be. Could be.

  3. Either that, or he was so accustomed to writing “Scalito” instead of “Alito,” that “Scalia” just came out as a Freudian typo.

My guess is that NK is right, though. Editors do have a nasty habit of reflexively “fixing” what they don’t understand. Recall that pro-life –> anti-abortion play Clod got so exercised about. In a similar but less ideological vein, the Richmond Times-Dispatch recently ran a national story about credit scoring, in which all three credit bureaus’ names were “corrected.” TransUnion became “Transition,” Equifax became “Equinox,” and Experian became “Explain.”

  4. Good copy editors are worth their weight in gold. The Times-Dispatch story sounds like a combination of a clueless copy editor and rampant spell-checkism.

  5. STUPID WaPo!

Of course they MEANT to say “Alioto.”

  6. Come on man give WAPO A Break! Alito Scalia Scalito gezz three Italians on one bench at one time 😉 your lucky they didn’t mistake it for a Costa nose meeting.

  7. Michael Luttig is laughing all the way to the bank. He gets to keep his judge’s pay (read the Constitution), as long as he doesn’t litigate.

Gimme a break, he probably as kids in college or some other economic issues…Who cares?

Just to show how dumb WAPO is, Luttig could be picked for any future opening. The dead pool looks good on Stevens…or..(enter name here).
