Joe Flint on King

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 11:48 am

Romenesko says:

These days, Larry King seems more interested in celebrities and crime, diminishing not only his own reputation and influence, but that of CNN as well, says Joe Flint. King’s ratings have dropped as viewers switch to more aggressive cable talk shows. Flint writes: “The real trouble is that Mr. King often appears disengaged. He seems to do little research before sitting down with guests.”

As often as the guy has been engaged, I guess it stands to reason that he would sometimes appear disengaged.

P.S. Anyone who complains that Larry King doesn’t do enough research hasn’t followed Larry King’s career very closely. King has always boasted of his complete lack of research, and considers that to be his greatest strength.

It’s not, of course — it’s just a rationale for laziness. But it’s nothing new.

  1. Larry King can roast. We got Clinton because of all the air time Larry gave H. Ross Perot.

  2. We got a balanced budget because Ross Perot shot $60 million on chalk talks with Mr. & Mrs. America in prime time. Why do you think Clinton “got religion” on spending? Why do you think the GOP took the House two years later? Did you think our spend-and-elect friends were just so naturally sickened by all the red ink they reversed their lifelong habits? Perot is crazy like a fox, and I for one admire the way he took care of Bush 41 and Dick Darman.

  3. We got a balanced budget because of all the tax revenue generated by the Reagan tax cuts, and from capital gains taxes produced by the explosive tech sector stocks.

Clinton gave us 800 FBI files pulled into the White House, a destroyed Haiti, and an atmosphere of moral corruption.

  4. I use the same argument. “Ad-libbing, it’s my greatest strength. No, I’m serious, honey, in fact, I need to go golfing because, if I actually prepare for this case, I’ll blow it.” Remember, Jerry, it’s not a lie, if you believe it.
