Shocker: Los Angeles Times Ignores Evidence that CHP Officer’s Killer Was Illegal

Yesterday a Barstow newspaper reported that a suspected drunk driver who killed a CHP officer had “a fake identification card, a Mexican identification card and other identification all with different names and different variations of names.”

News? You betcha! It suggests that the killer may have been an illegal immigrant who never should have been in the U.S. to begin with.

News reported by the L.A. Times? Don’t make me emit a mordant chuckle!

Despite this evidence suggesting that the officer’s killer was an illegal immigrant, the Los Angeles Times has printed not one word of this information. In today’s story, titled Shaken by Deaths, CHP Reviews Safety Policies, the paper shows no curiosity whatsoever concerning whether the man who killed the officer was legally in this country.

Is this not news? Obviously, it is. So (he asked rhetorically), what exactly is going on here?

I guess we’ll have to await the answer from the Readers’ Representative as to why only desert-based papers appear capable of reporting this information. When I hear something, you’ll hear something.

  1. What’s going on here? I’m awaiting word from my legal advisor, Mordant Q. Chuckleworth, Esq.

  2. Good thing Otis Chandler changed the Times from a hopeless Republican rag to the great centrist newspaper it is today.

  3. I wonder about the other CHP deaths and what or who caused them. Of course the LAT blames the outbreak of deaths on the CHP “safety policies.” To question otherwise would be racist! Too bad for the lawful people, white and minority, who are victimized by gangs and dopers.

Unfortunately, when the media lies about these issues, it causes an even stronger blowback from the public. By now, we have all figured out when they leave out the race and name of a perp, it’s one of the protected class.

  4. Speaking to Kevin’s point above, did anyone else notice that Patterico gets mentioned in the Media Blog on National Review Online?

  5. I think you’re jumping the gun on the LAT article. It hasn’t been confirmed that the murderer was an illegal alien. I checked out a number of major media — local tv news, talk radio news — and none have them have confirmed that, so it’s just speculation so far.

Besides, the article was focused on the department reaction to so many guys getting killed on duty, and what they’re doing to improve officer safety. Speculating on the illegal/legal status of one of the six cop killers wouldn’t be appropriate, and would not fit the thrust of the story.

If it’s proven that the murderer was drunk and illegally in the country, and the LAT ignores that, then I’d say you have something.

Agreed. I didn’t say anything different. But I think there’s enough there to suggest that the paper should look into it.

  7. Remember the Metroline train crash that killed a bunch of people (4 or 5?) a little more than a year ago? The cause of that crash was a driver that was rumored (by some blogs) to be illegal. I could’ve missed it, but I never saw any follow-up reporting on the immigration status of that driver. If anyone knows, I’d be interested if it was reported (by LAT or any other MSM).

It’s been confirmed about as much as it’s gonna be.

Go to my top post — I’ve blogged it.
