See-Dubya: The Chronicle channels Patterico
Via Best of the Web Today I find the SF Chronicle asking a familiar question in its man-on-the-street “Two Cents” feature: “Who’s More Dangerous: Bin Laden or Bush?” The answers aren’t quite as cringeworthy as I might have expected–in fact a couple are quite good.

What an absurd question. Nice to see the people responding see it as such.
Consigliere (3f8ad8) — 2/14/2006 @ 3:43 pmWho is more dangerous, Bin Laden or Bush? The answer is “Al Gore” whose recent remarks in Saudi Arabia helped Bin Laden recruit a few thousand more terrorists.
perfectsense (024110) — 2/14/2006 @ 4:57 pmNo, no, no. Bin Laden is more dangerous, and more of an enemy, than Al Gore.
That said, his remarks were indeed quite counterproductive, in my opinion.
Patterico (de0616) — 2/14/2006 @ 5:21 pmDepends who you are. For me, as an American citizen, Bin Laden is more dangerous. For an Islamic Extremist, you should be afraid of “W”.
Shaiko (dfd255) — 2/14/2006 @ 5:22 pmP–agree with you about Gore’s remarks. I don’t think they’ll amount to any sudden new uprising of terrorist recruits (but since we have no way to keep track them, they make for excellent political bogeymen), but hey–that’s just me. Having said that, his actions are certainly politically unwise, if for no other reason than the veritable shit-storm of criticism that they will no doubt bring upon him (and the left in general, since right wing media loves to paint us all with the broadest of brushes).
Tom (15e81e) — 2/14/2006 @ 5:44 pmIt’s obvious that George W. Bush is more dangerous, he’s the most dangerous man on the planet.
Every President since 1941 is when he’s office and this is the way it should be – after WW2 Stalin was terrified we’d nuke the Red Army and Moscow and invade the Soviet Union as he didn’t have the Bomb yet himself. A lot of people have apparently forgotten that they need to be concerned when America is unhappy with them (or wants to put a Hellfire down their cave) – not just the other way around.
Chaos (27ce18) — 2/15/2006 @ 5:29 amI havent read Al Gores remarks yet, but this question is still a pointless question. How can it possibly invite meaningful debate in todays climate of vicious partisanship? Its just another way of asking, “Who do you hate?”
There are far more important and meaningful questions to aks, unfortunately they dont sell papers or adtime. Fortunately, I came across this new site recently that may change that (lets hope so): Make The News Better

Hal Lindsey asks a similar question:

Hal’s Commentary is not too long and makes the point.

Black Jack (d8da01) — 2/16/2006 @ 5:25 pmHey well Black Jack guess what? Bush was lying and Sadam was not..Sadam said he did not have any WMDs and that was true..and Bush said he was trying to avoid war and he was planning it all along.
Charlie (8ea405) — 2/16/2006 @ 5:44 pmIf you check on Arab websites you will see that Gore was only partially quoted by the so called Liberal press. Gore said there were widespread abuses but then added words to the effect that there were people even in the current Republican adminstration that were working to correct those abuses and insure Arabs received fair treatment. Not and exact quote but that was the meaning. I find it strange that those words were omitted in news accounts here as they change the meaning substantially. Its also strange that the very same people who think that those remarks recruited terrorists strangely think the US actions in Abu Greb and Guantanamo and in the invasion itself did not!!! Incredible what people believe when they are in fear and looking for a father figure to guide them.

So, tell us Charlie, who’s your daddy, Muhammad Al-Gore, Slick Willie, Crazy Howard, Dingy Harry, Turban Durbin, Spider Hussein, or Too-Tall Osama? If you don’t know, feel free to check Arab and Lefty websites so you can be sure to get complete information.
BTW, didn’t you hear about how all Saddam’s WMD were sent to Syria? I got it straight from a high ranking Arab military officer who worked for Saddam. It was in the Arab press too, so it must be true. And, I find it strange this information is largely omitted in news accounts here.
Similarly, unprincipled opposition to our efforts in Iraq only serves the interests of our enemies and helps to recruit more terrorists who want to destroy our liberties and slaughter our citizens.
