AirTran: It’s Really ValuJet

Filed under: Scum — Patterico @ 12:06 pm

Did you know that AirTran is really ValuJet operating under a different name? (No joke.) I sure didn’t when I booked my recent flight. Thanks to Xrlq for bringing it to my attention.

  1. Ah! That picture brings back such memories. I was driving by the Atlanta airport the evening that happened and saw the smoke rising from the runway. I think the proximate cause was a fan blade failure in one of the airplane’s Turkish-overhauled engines. No fatalities or serious injuries (thank God).

  2. That’s nothing. Did you know that The Los Angeles Times is really Al-Jazeera operating under a different name?

  3. Did you know that LA Observed is blogging on your social engagements? I don’t think those people would approve of travel on AirTran (or ValuJet).

  4. Yeah, I knew that. It’s a bit scary that you didn’t, it seems to me, given the voice you have in the ‘sphere. I don’t believe it was kept a secret when the transformation occurred (and, I might add, there was a good deal more than a change of name involved, if you look into it).

Next time, fly with the people who are ready when you are.

  5. Patterico! Where are you going? Sure, there are some places that are served only by the marginals but major deeparture and destination points are served by good companies. So, are you flying to TooManyWives, Utah?

  6. Yeah, ValuJet bought AirTran, a much smaller concern, mostly to buy themselves a different name and give themselves some corporate cover.
