“Liberal Avenger”: Dishonest

This is a follow-up to my post yesterday about Michelle Malkin. From what I can tell, the main guy who has been going around claiming that Malkin’s husband is really the one who writes her blog is an anonymous liberal (funny how often personal charges and attacks come from anonymous people) who calls himself the “Liberal Avenger.” Over on Xrlq’s blog, Liberal Avenger shows why he has such a poor reputation for credibility in the blogosphere, with a comment that contains the following false accusation:

P.S. Why did Jesse Malkin savagely beat a student photographer who tried to take his picture? That’s behavior one could only describe as being unhinged.

Savagely beat, eh? The funny thing is, if you actually bother to follow the link to see the description of how Jesse Malkin allegedly “savagely beat” someone, you find that the sum total of the violence attributed to Malkin is this: “He grabbed my arm and tried to grab my camera . . .”

That, to Liberal Avenger, is a savage beating: grabbing someone’s arm. Oh, the horror!

(And this is assuming that you believe the account of the incident in question to begin with.)

As I said in my own comment to Liberal Avenger, the only savage beating going on here is the one his credibility takes every time he taps on his keyboard.

  3. LA did get a pretty clammy reception from Patterico, I must say.

  4. “Savagely beat” may be ironic hyperbole.

  5. Didn’t come across that way to me, at all.

  6. No, LibAv seemed to be pretty serious. Kind of strange if you ask me, this fascination with Ms. Malkin, her ethnicity, and her marriage. I don’t see any other columnist/blogger getting savaged like this.

This obsession with her is pretty creepy, if you ask me. For example, no one goes after Michael Barone or Hugh Hewitt with quite the venom I’ve read directed at Ms. Malkin.

    Maybe creepy isn’t a strong enough word…

  7. Will the left hold Hillary Clinton to the same standard it demands from Michelle Malkin?. Hillary Clinton does not write her speeches, Hillary does no research; Hillary does not draft bills, Hillary doesn’t even drive a car. Hillary Clinton’s rise to power was accomplished by latching onto her husband and repeatedly looked the other way when her husband repeatedly broke their marriage vows. But in the liberal mantra, Hillary is one of the greatest women who ever lived.

  8. This reminds me of the time Liberal Avenger raped my 5 year old poodle.

(by “raped” I mean “turned on” and by “my 5 year old poodle” I mean “his computer”)

But it’s practically the same thing….

  9. Will the left hold Hillary Clinton to the same standard it demands from Michelle Malkin? . . . But in the liberal mantra, Hillary is one of the greatest women who ever lived.

Most liberals aren’t that enthused by Hillary. She’s a blatant panderer. Pretty sure she does that all by herself, though.

And at least she’s not pro-Concentration camp.

    Geek, Esq. (5dd2be)

  10. “And at least she’s not pro-Concentration camp.”

Hillary’s too cheap to pay for food and shelter, at Waco she called out the FBI and had them set the church on fire. Then they used deadly gas on the women and children, and shot the men who ran for their lives begging for mercy.

But, come the 2008 primary elections, we’ll see just how enthused most liberals are at sucking up to Hillary.

    Wait, hillary? Or the feds?

Of course, the easy response is to get holier than thou and say ‘how dare you say that about our law enforcement heroes’

Liberals just overwhelmingly vote for Hillary and fill up her bank accounts. Other than that, I guess their support is pretty thin.

Barbara Feinman actually wrote “It Takes a Village” but Hillary gave her no credit. But what do liberal shout about? “Michelle Malkin is a stupid idiot that doesn’t write her material!”

Bill and Hill’s cats paw feds. You know, Janet Reno’s Justice Department FBI Witness Elimination Team.

  14. I forgot Hillary’s #1 attribute: The far-right wingnuts and Freepi go batshit insane at the very mention of her name.

Mean or incompetent government action while her husband was president WAS her fault. I mean, why not?

  16. Well, The Liberal Avenger is a Large Mammal, currently ranked 1496th on the TTLB system, with 140 “unique” visitors making 912 visits on an average day. But the previous week, when he was slamming Mrs Malkin, he was up around 1550 average daily visits; it was a good message for them in terms of attracting traffic. Considering that both Dafydd ab Hugh and our own esteemed host linked his junk, it’s no wonder that he saw the upsurge. Heck, I visited the site myself; I’m part of his upsurge in traffic.

Of course, our esteemed host is also a Large Mammal (the Playful Primate thing just couldn’t last), ranked 103rd, with 670 inbound unique and 2087 average daily visits. Mr. ab Hugh is also ahead of the Liberal Avenger, so both sites that criticized the Avenger’s column contributed to his jump in readership.

  17. Hillary, the Feds,
    Slick Willie, WHATEVER:
Please – we reasonable converatives MUST
not overstate. Hillary herself didn’t do
the Waco attack. There’s so much that is
laughably wrong with her that we need not
    push the envelope.
In fact, let’s go easy on her – ANY
Republican would beat her in 2008, so let’s
help her get the Dem Nomination!

  18. In fact, let’s go easy on her – ANY

Wasn’t that what a lot of people said about her estranged husband in 1994?

  19. Our esteemed host said:

That, to Liberal Avenger, is a savage beating: grabbing someone’s arm. Oh, the horror!

Well, of course it is! Today’s conservatives are the ones who beat up today’s liberals in the schoolyard.

    Dana R. Pico (a9eb8b)

  20. “Today’s conservatives are the ones who beat up today’s liberals in the schoolyard.”

You may actually have a point there Dana, because “[t]hose who can’t think, fight.”

    Tillman (1cf529)

  21. Tillman,

Those who can’t fight get their ass kicked.

  22. That’s real intelligent Black Jack.

    Tillman (1cf529)

  23. To understand Malkin’s support for the internment of the Nisei (which was IMHO a terrible decision) you have to understand her context.

Which is that by my understanding a lot of her family was wiped out in the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. Stephen Ambrose once remarked that Manila was one of the worst places in the War, it just wasn’t as well documented because the Japanese unlike the Germans did not film and document everything they did. But the mass slaughter there was on a par with Nanking. Which should tell you something.

Anyway, once you understand that context the positions of many people from Asia become clearer. I was struck in China how much animosity there was for Japan, even though many/most of the mass murderers who inflicted misery there were long dead. Japanese WWII bad guys are a staple of Chinese TV.

Mass Murder has a habit of casting long and terrible shadows.

For the record I think internment was horrible; and Manzanar was/is a wicked, horrible place. I salute RC Hoiles and Freedom Newspapers for in 1942 opposing the Internment in editorial after editorial; at a time when the SF Chronicle and LA Times and SF Herald Examiner all supported the move.

    LA? Clearly crossed the line.

    Jim Rockford (e09923)

  24. “That’s real intelligent Black Jack.”

It’s got little to do with intelligence, Tillman. Haven’t you ever been pushed around by a school-yard bully? Haven’t you been exposed to the lessons of world history? Don’t you know that predators seek out easy targets? Innocent people get mugged, robbed, and even killed.

Don’t you know that personal strength and a willingness to defend yourself is the best protection against attack? Aren’t you sometimes responsible for the safety of others?

Someone has to stand up for women and children, the old and infirm. Men over the age of 18 are expected to look out for themselves and be ready to help those who can’t fight back.

It’s not something we can put up for a vote, it’s the law of the jungle. Civilized people can put that law in abeyance for periods of time, but recent lessons from New Orleans prove just how thin the veneer of civilization actually is. Push comes to shove, you better be able to defend yourself, otherwise you either run away or get victimized.

Spout Pollyanna nonsense if you insist, but it won’t help much in the face of a direct and violent assault.

    Black Jack (ee9fe2)

  25. Jim,

Bitter animosity between Japan and China first came home to me when I was a young Airman stationed at Hickam Field. My Japanese pal was seeing a Chinese girl. They were in love but both sets of parents violently opposed the union.

Later, I saw the same hostility play out in the Philippines, and a good many other places in the Pacific. The long-standing animosity was pervasive, although I did see successful Chinese restaurants in downtown Tokyo.

    Black Jack (ee9fe2)

  26. I’m confused. Why wouldn’t young Liberals beat up young Conservatives in schoolyards? Granted Liberals tend toward wimpiness; on the other hand, they have a proclivity for herd behavior–safety in numbers–and a love of aggressive force.

    Bilwick (bd15da)

  27. I’m glad to see that SOMEBODY recognizes Ironic Hyperbole – made all the more ironic by the fact that Michelle Malkin is AS WE SPEAK busy peddling her new book that is brimming with stories about “unhinged” liberals committing crimes and mischief nearly identical to that of her husband.

Does everybody see the irony now?

    The Liberal Avenger (fb75bc)

  28. Bilwick:

Their herd behavior leads them to cower together. As for a “love of aggressive force,” it is the aggressive force of the metrosexual: handy for seducing Vogue and the New York Times Review of Books into thinking that they are ultimately cool, but not much use when real action is needed. 🙂

I confess to having dropped by The Liberal Avenger since the kerfuffle over Mrs Malkin began; it is interesting to see some of their articles, and I have even posted a couple of responses over there. But the notion that one of the LA bloggers runs a website dedicated solely to cyber-stalking Mrs Malkin strikes me as being the work of someone with a little bit too much time on her hands.

I find it interesting, of course, that the LA has no real answer to what Mrs Malkin says, so they have to attribute it to someone else, in this case a white husband who must be pulling her strings. I find it amusing (sort of) that our liberal friends find it perfectly reasonable that white males could hold differing opinions on just about any subject, but when a member of a Certified Victim Group thinks outside the opinion box assigned to members of that group by the left, why something must be wrong with that person.

    Dana R. Pico (a071ac)

  29. It’s possible, Dana, that liberals’ personal wimpiness would undercut their love of aggressive force, thus making them ineffectual schoolyard bullies. But not necessarily. In the adult world, they pose as pacifists while getting their goons at the IRS and BATF to do their dirty work for them. In the schoolyard, they would probably be “bullies by proxy,” getting Nelson Muntz and his cronies to “redistribute” the lunch money.
