That’s awesome! Congrats on the new house.

Steve Ely (7122a9) — 11/12/2005 @ 6:01 amAbsolutely gorgeous. I’m very envious! 🙂

I grew up running the hills behind your house. Not sure if you are a runner but if you are there are some of the most beautiful trails in the region right behind you.

Congrats!

Yeah, this is way up the hill from the ocean, and that is the neighbor’s house.
Congratulations at buying at the exact peak of the California real estate bubble!
Thanks! I appreciate your gracious attempt to throw cold water on our joy. However, it doesn’t really work, because we’re also *selling* a place at the peak, at considerable profit — which is how two DAs can afford a nice, spacious house in RPV.
Still, we are trading up at what I consider to be exactly the wrong time. If I didn’t have a family that needs a yard and more room, I’d probably sit tight for 3-5 years. No such luck — which is, of course, good fortune in the end.
Patterico (4e4b70) — 11/12/2005 @ 9:53 amPatterico,
Damn right – a house is a home first, an investment 2nd. Congrats. And if you’re trading up aot buying for the 1st time, you’ll be OK. Nice lookin’ place. Be happy.
Hope L.A. doesn’t run outta bad guys to keep you employed.
ras (f9de13) — 11/12/2005 @ 10:46 amVery nice. Good luck, hope you and your family have years of joy.
As for buying at the peak, interesting to see some have powers to see into the future. But who would care about that, especially if you intend to live in a house for some time.
PC (98b75e) — 11/12/2005 @ 10:55 amSeriously, though, good luck with your new home!
dose of reality (2dcd84) — 11/12/2005 @ 11:50 amYou’d better invite me over . . . 😉
Pejman Yousefzadeh (df1786) — 11/12/2005 @ 1:51 pmPej, you have an open invitation.
Patterico (4e4b70) — 11/12/2005 @ 1:56 pmNice digs! I don’t think you need any crazy blog money, Mr. P. Best of luck to you and the family in your new home.
Mikey (acbb4a) — 11/12/2005 @ 2:09 pmWho knows if you’re buying at the peak o’ the bubble or not. In aggregate, what people think about the future price of real estate is factored into today’s price. If the majority of sachems were convinced this was the peak, it wouldn’t be, because prices would already have started down.
For instance, my family bought 15 months ago at “the peak”–and it wasn’t.
If, Kaus-style, your blogging Boeing should come along, climb on board. Agree or disagree, your posts make me think. In the meantime, enjoy the fruits of your labors and your good fortune.
AMac (b6037f) — 11/13/2005 @ 8:10 pmReminds me of when I bought at “the peak” 30 years ago, and lay away nights wondering if I could pay the note. I still have that condo, and 6 others. Whenever I’m in escrow I worry about “the peak” and earthquakes. I no longer work; I just worry about “the peaks”.
