This Weekend’s Posts
Weekday-only readers should consider clicking on these posts from the past weekend:
- If you read only two posts from the weekend, read these two posts on
potentialnominee Judge Samuel Alito:
1) I analyze Alito’s Dissent in Casey.
2) In a post called Alito Out? I analyze [UPDATE: clearly unfounded] rumors that Sen. Specter has nixed Judge Alito’s nomination, and note an interesting reason why that might be.
- In further Supreme Court nomination news, I noted reports suggesting Bush Considering Only Strong Nominees.
- I also have a silly post about the Washington Post‘s claim that Bush is announcing his pick today, titled President to Announce Nominee on Halloween: Will It Be a Treat? Or a Trick?.
- Okay, so it’s like saying “Tony Snow Proves Water Is Wet” — still, I enjoyed writing the post titled Tony Snow Exposes Bill Maher As Clueless Moron.
- Three posts about Lyin’ Joe Wilson this weekend:
1) I criticized Lyin’ Joe’s L.A. Times op-ed in a post titled Our 27 Months of Hell Brought to Us By Lyin’ Joe Wilson.
2) I note Barcepundit’s observation that the Wall Street Journal needs to correct its correction about Wilson and the “sixteen words.”
3) Finally, we have Clinton W. Taylor on Lyin’ Joe Wilson.
- In music news that few of you care about, I noted my purchase of the Kupfer Ring (Barcelona Production) on DVD.
Or, if all this clicking is too hard, just scroll down!
— President Bush to nominate 3rd Circuit Appeals Court Judge Samuel Alito to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, sources tell CNN.
Neil J. Lehto (77bed1) — 10/31/2005 @ 4:46 amNBC also going live with reports that its Alito.
I don’t know much about him except what has been posted here. It seems like he’s going to be toxic to Dems. My guess is they could try to block him if what I’ve read is true.
If so the battle would be joined. It is, however, a battle conservatives should be able to win. We have a majority in every branch of the federal government. Somehow I doubt he’s more “extreme” than Ginsberg – and Pubs held their noses and voted for her.
What I’m getting to is it appears the White House got the message. It seems to understand that we wanted a highly qualified genuine conservative appointment. They’re giving it to us. In effect they’re saying; “OK. You want a high-end Con appointment? Fine, here he is. Let’s see if you can do what it takes to help us get him confirmed.”
The game’s afoot.
Dwilkers (a1687a) — 10/31/2005 @ 5:10 amYou were right about Alito.
DRJ (15ed57) — 10/31/2005 @ 5:35 amWay to go, Patterico.
Aw man. I was thinking Alito was a good pick but now I see he wasn’t on Harry Reid’s list!
Bummer. 8^)
