Pandagon: Rehnquist Supported Roe v. Wade

Well, find some other way to interpret this boneheaded post by Amanda Marcotte:

Rehnquist died. He was no crusader for decency or anything, but nor was he a person whose ideology overruled his decisions. Those days for the Supreme Court are over. BushCo has a new appointment and can also choose the new Chief Justice.

Summary: We are fucked.

Choice is gone. And as soon as Roe v. Wade is overturned, states will start outlawing contraception, and eventually the ideologically run court will find that there’s no right to privacy, period, and contraception protection will be gone.

Yup. William Rehnquist was the only thing standing in between George W. Bush and the reversal of Roe v. Wade.

Sure, he dissented from the original decision, and always voted to overturn it afterwards, so his replacement could hardly bring us any closer to the overturning of Roe . . . but those are facts. And we don’t like those!

There’s only one thing to say about someone who would say something as stupid as this: Amanda Marcotte is a fucking idiot.

Summary: anybody who depends on Pandagon for an honest analysis of anything is fucked.

UPDATE: The profanity is not gratuitous; it’s satire. Follow the links, read the Pandagon posts, and you’ll understand.

  2. patrick – keep away from the F bombs, bro. leave that crap to the kos kidz and atriosites. youre articulate enuff to find the right words. you dont need to start sounding like the shrieking profane leftys.

  3. I’m with you, cali white bear. But follow the links. It’s not gratuitous — I’m mocking these folks. Jesse Taylor (if you follow the link) is the guy who thinks it’s the height of cleverness to call Jeff Goldstein a “fucking idiot” — not once, but twice. And saying “Summary: anybody who depends on Pandagon for an honest analysis of anything is fucked.” is just a parody of the post I’m attacking anyway.

Look, you’ve read the site long enough to know that I don’t use profanity gratuitously. But it’s not like I’m scared of it, either. I think it fits here, to make fun of these nincompoops.

Sorry if you’re offended. It won’t happen often.

  4. I’m still seeing only 4 judges supporting the overturning of Roe v Wade- Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Rhenquest’s replacement. Unless losing Oconnor pushes Kennedy to the right, I’m not seeing #5 materialize. And #4 getting confirmed will be a nasty battle.

I’ve updated the post so others aren’t confused.

  6. Patrick,

A really great word to use for the purpose expressing anger and frustration is “firk”. Look it up, you may like it.

  7. Homi: The fifth justice to vote to overturn Roe v Wade will be Justice Luttig, who will replace Justice Stevens in 2006.

And confirming Justice Roberts wil not really be a nasty battle: the Democrats would like to stop him, but Mr Roberts has the votes for confirmation, and the Democrats cannot risk breaking the Gang of Fourteen’s bargain over Mr Roberts: to do so would mean the nuclear option, which would pass in a Roberts filibuster, and take the filibuster option away from them for the Clements and Luttig confirmations.

  8. Patterico:

I went ahead and followed the link to Pendragon, and I’ve got to ask you: what on earth has ever pushed you to read that tripe in the first place?

There are a couple of liberal blogs I check occesionally, such as Oliver Willis and The Brad Blog (although the Brad Blog is starting to get really bad; I check on that to see the frustration factor of those who still think that Senator Kerry really won), but if what I saw on Pendragon is representative of the norm for that blog, it’s just a waste of bandwidth.

  9. I disagree. She is an idiot, all right, but who would want to fuck her?

No thanks, been there, done that.
That site might put up something that I would be happy to read, but I’ll never know it. It made me feel dirty each and every time I went there. I used to go there a long time ago, but it became a cesspool of thought. I still have the link in my ‘Favorites’ but I no longer use it.

Knowing what I know about that site and you, I had assumed the cursing was warranted.

  11. I think perpetuating the rehnquist vote gets us closer to not having privacy.

  12. They’re trying to create this mythology about Rehnquist so they get people outraged when he’s not replaces with the head of NARAL.

  13. aint no thing but a chicken wing.

the lefty blogs DO swear their asses off all the time. they sound like mewling infants. and these dudes are not the no-hit moonbat sites, but the most trafficed and talked about left-bent blogs out there.

No, thanks. Not even with a stolen dick.

  15. Y’know, I could almost tease out a non-retarded explanation for Amanda’s idiotic statement: “we” are fucked because “we” were hoping that old codger would stay alive and on the court until 2009, to be replaced by Erwin Chemerinsky when the Moonbat Party regains the White House. But given how well-publicized C.J. Rehnquist’s health problems were, only an idiot could have expected him to hold out that long, either.

    I prefer bill clinton.

  17. That might be a first: someone who got disbarred from the Supreme Court serving on it.
