I Read the Kossacks So You Don’t Have To

There is a “story” up at Daily Kos called I read the right-wing blogs, so you don’t have to. This fellow reviews certain right-wing blogs and finds their coverage of the hurricane wanting. One of his complaints is that some of the right-wing blogs are simply ignoring the hurricane. He characterizes these blogs’ attitude as:

If there is a problem, ignore it. Many blogs simply did not want to talk about what is doing on — instead they concentrate on defending the war in Iraq, or talking about the craziness of social security.

As an evident example of this, the Kossack offers up: Instapundit. No, I’m not kidding:

Glenn Reynolds links to story that claims the L.A. Times edited a story to say that George Bush never met with Cindy Sheehan when in fact he met with her before his many months ago before his vacation, but not in Crawford.

It’s hard to believe this is his lead story.

The implication is that Glenn Reynolds is not talking about Katrina and relief efforts on his blog. A more blatant version of “The Big Lie” you will never see. It’s almost all he has talked about for several days running. He organized a blogosphere-wide donation effort and documented the links in this massive post. He did far more good for the victims in one day than this carping Kossack ever will.

I take this a little personally since it was my link that the Kossack is discussing here. This was Glenn’s “lead story” for all of two minutes, from 10:01 a.m. Eastern time to 10:03 a.m. Eastern time. He puts up a lot of posts, Kossacks. And lately, most of them have been about Katrina. So trying to stop lying for half a second, mmkay?

UPDATE: Link to Kossack post now fixed.

  1. You know, if all you have to attack the LA Times is the fact that they deleted 4 words, then you are really bad at your slandering job. In Addition, Reynolds certainly did not organize a “blogosphere-wide” donation effort. It is interesting how 90% of the charities he shows are religious ones. He may have done more good in one day, but simply because he supports the political party whose government officials took away money from shoring up the levees. These are the same officials who said they had no idea this was coming. These are the same officials who did not even know about the Convention Center until 36 hours after the mainstream media and the blogosphere were reporting about the UNITED STATES CITIZENS TRAPPED INSIDE WITH NO FOOD, WATER, MEDICINE, OR HELP OF ANY KIND FROM THE GOVERNMENT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO SERVE THEM. In Addition, your website, and Glenn Reynold’s website, and all the other far-right websites, the number of people who actually read your posts pale in comparison to that of Daily Kos. Somehow, I think, as is exactly like the Republicans’ idiotic approach to governing, that the one viewpoint with more people must be right! Lastly, Daily Kos has put together a massive campaign that is gaining money at a rate of 200,000 dollars every day, exclusively for the Red Cross.

  2. Wow. I can’t even tell if the comment above is supposed to be a parody of a left-wing nut or not. First, Kos’s front page is filled with Bush-bashing crud, and some Arnold-bashing to boot. A fine effort to rise above politics for the common good. Second, the only reference I could find on the Kos page about relief is the Liberal Blogs for Hurricane Relief ad (did they have to pay Kos?) on the right-hand side. Hardly a massive effort. Third, this effort has raised about $120,000 so far. Nothing to sneeze at, unless you are sneezing at the guy claiming that $200K a day has already been raised. Fourth, an astute liberal blogger points out that there is a Kos diary about how the Red Cross is corrupt. Hardly a united front over there.

If the Daily Kos community really wants to help, great. If you don’t like religious charities, fine: give to someone else. Quit spreading false accusations about how levee integrity could have been upgraded to withstand a cat4 hurricane if only there was no war in Iraq. Please.

And those four words about Cindy are important!

I’m guessing you have never read this blog; I have quite a bit more than that.

I think that is wonderful. I really do.

Now, if you could just stop making false insinuations about right-wing bloggers . . .

  4. I’ve never understood why the left hate Glenn Reynolds the way they do. All he does on his blog is link to stories he finds interesting and he rarely says anything more than ‘sounds good’ or ‘I hope so’. He’s pro-gay rights, pro-abortion rights, pro-stem cell research, etc etc. What’s there for the left to hate so much? And how exactly is he right wing with those views?

  5. If Clinton were still President, the focus of the MSM’s attack would be the Mayor or the Governor. Since the Mayor is a Democrat African-American, and the Governor is a Democrat female, hardly a word of criticism has been spoken about them. The media feel that a disaster made Bush (911), and that they are NOT about to let a disaster help save him. The dems are gleeful about this mess and they probably are hoping for another.

  6. Kossacks? Do you mean the KosKids who gave their allowance to Chicken-hawk loser Hackett’s campaign and now are in trouble with gave KosParents?

Gotta watch out. Kos has a secret plan to destroy the Democrat Leadership Council and will reveal it in a few days.

  7. First the Left betrays our troops in the field, and now they betray those poor trapped people in that terrible flooded city, all in the selfish effort to spew hatred and venom at their political opponents. Have they no shame?

I guess the answer is clearly no, the Left has no shame, and no compassion for the suffering. The Left, in their blindness and ignorance see this disaster as only one more opportunity to bash George Bush. Shame on them and their knee-jerk stupidity.

  8. If the conservative blogs were serious about Hurrican relief they would drop the partisan bickering and support the following:

Mr. Bush: Appoint John Edwards to Head Relief Effort

Boy, you got that right. I can’t WAIT for another devastating example of this administration’s unpreparedness resulting in thousands of American deaths.

I really get off on that, you know. Another horrific tragedy = more votes for our side; you heard it here first! We’re positively joyous!–you very stupid bastard.

Get ahold of yourself, champ. The only knee-jerk stupidity I’m seeing at the moment has to do with the Right’s vital need to stamp out any hint of criticism against Dear Leader–again and again and again, assuming the worst intentions of their opponents, no matter the issue.

Wow, i know Democrats saying that there was a inefficient response to the disaster is completely a Democratic view…oh wait, there was one Republican who said the response “is not acceptable” who was that?? oh yeah, THE PRESIDENT!

In Addition, One year ago from this moment, what political even just ended where 9/11 was exploited in every possible way, and even some impossible ways? Was it the Democratic Convention? No…hmmm..what is the name of that other party? the party of inclusion? oh yeah.. the Republicans! The Republicans were the ones whoe exploited 9/11 when it was their own damn fault, and don’t you dare say the Left betrayed our troops when it was the Republicans who lied to the American people and sent the troops into an illegal war in the first place. Once Republicans got the troops into Iraq, they did not give them what they needed to do the job, and so, while still opposing the war in principle, the Democrats passed a bill that gave our troops what they needed while all of the more than 25 nay votes came from Republicans.
And what about Bush taking money away from building the levees??? Clinton would not have done that you pompous evil minion bastards.
