Our Friend Alex Screws the Pooch Again

Filed under: Morons — Patterico @ 1:09 pm

Local fringe leftist Alex reports:

August 11, 2005 Looks like Chrenkoff ran out of Good News from Iraq

Pro war optimist and propagandist Chrenkoff announced his retirement the other day, claiming that a new job would prevent him from spinning miles of crap about how hunky dory things are going in Iraq:

A few days ago, I accepted a new job. Unfortunately, one of the conditions is that I will not be allowed to blog, or indeed write much on my own. As you can imagine, it has not been an easy decision.

Mighty convenient timing, as our good friend seems to be running out of the "Good News" which made his blog the darling of neocon idiots and warmongers everywhere. Just glancing at his website, it seems his last installment of "good news from Iraq" was posted four months ago on April 11. It’s all about the wunnerful democracy taking shape in Iraq, a report that Iraqis are so prosperous they are becoming "car crazy" (is that why those things keep exploding?) and how successful our rebuilding has progressed. In other words, the standard pile of crap.

Just one problem — actually, seven problems — with that analysis. Chrenkoff’s most recent “Good News” post was posted on August 1, 2005. It was Part 32. The April 11 post to which Alex refers was Part 25. Since then, there have been seven lengthy “Good News” posts — all in the past four months.

So the entire point of Alex’s post is, once again, factually incorrect.

Whoops.

Maybe next time he’ll do more than just glance at a site before popping off . . .

UPDATE: Alex has issued a correction — with his usual grace . . .

  1. This post and the Sheehan post made me think about the press (all forms) and its take on this war. What would WW II be like with today’s media…

June 7, 1944- The so called “allied” forces continued their invasion of the northern French coast yesterday. Thousands of U.S. service men were killed in action leaving the beach a virtual blood bath. While it is called an “allied” invasion the U.S. Rangers and British Commandos were the majority of the forces used in the assault. Other countries represented such as Canada had only a token presence.
There is seemingly no end in sight to this war as the American commanders have yet to issue a time table for an end of American involvement. Joe Birkenstock of the moveon newsletter said “This illegal invasion is yet another example of American imperialism and clearly the American people, especially the mothers of these soldiers forced into action by our imperialist government aren’t going to stand for the constant lies from this administration about this war.” Birkenstock continued “This administration has stated repeatedly these unproven accusations of concentration camps in eastern Europe. Where are they?”
Suzy Onsecondthough, from Tacoma Washington, whose only son was killed in action during the invasion was overcome with grief as she camped in front of the White House demanding a meeting with President Roosevelt. The president who refers to our troops as the “Arsenal of Democracy” claims to be occupied with “war planning” and has not responded to the request. However Birkenstock noted “We’ll have everyone of these mothers whose sons have died today come Washington and camp out until we’ve stopped this disastrous action. You can’t have an Arsenal of Democracy. It will never work!”

  3. I exchanged some emails with Art and offered to take over the Good News series for him given that he was quitting and that there is a clear need to continue it, however, he’s already made arrangements. The series will continue. 😉

  4. All Things Conservative is taking up the banner and has already posted his first weekly installment of what he’s calling Iraq News Roundup.

At my own blog, with Arthur’s permission, for the past two months or so I’ve been posting “Chrenkoff Today,” which was a quick daily excerpt from Arthur’s fantabulous gigantic files. So now I’m blogging a daily feature (M-F) called Iraq’s Untold Story, the same idea but based on my own noodling on the web.

What many critics of the Good News series don’t seem to understand is that nobody sensible is asking that only good news be reported–just tell us the whole freakin’ story whydon’thca.
