Roberts Links

Read this Washington Post article on John Roberts and just try to tell me that this guy isn’t solid. Just try!

Pejman has an excellent piece on the arguments against John Roberts and the reasons that they are unconvincing.

Tell me you’re not frightened by the fact that this whack-job wears a robe. (Via Howard Bashman; annoying registration required.) He doesn’t even mention the relevant Supreme Court precedent. If you are a Rhode Island resident, be very afraid. (UPDATE: Volokh has more.)

UPDATE: I have a post about the New York Times‘s decision to seek the adoption records of John Roberts’s children, here.

  1. Go to BugMeNot.com for easy bypass of the annoying registration on this and other news sites. It’s a charm!

  2. Precisely what I thought when I saw that; this guy’s a justice?–and said a silent prayer of thanks he’s in another state from mine.

  3. Each incident follows the same pattern: federal govt tries to take on more power than the constitution allows in order to do “something good,” or at least something with ostensibly good intentions.

Roberts says “wait a minute, that’s not what’s in the constitution.” And he’s right. And, it’s not allowed by the constitution for some very good reasons, too.

Those who favor such federal powers should be lobbying for constitutional amendments that allow as much, not asking SCOTUS judges to quietly rewrite the document.

Roberts looks like a brilliant pick, doesn’t he? Reminds me of Thomas Sowell, only younger.

  4. The guy’s just a superior court judge in a little state — they call them “justices”, but it’s like stilts….

  5. Thank heavens there’s at least that, then.

  6. Any coincidence that the whack job holds court in the ONLY state in the country where judges have lifetime tenure?

  7. I thought Ann Coulter’s column for today was excellent. It’s disappointing that so many conservatives have taken a firm stance in favor of Judge Roberts’ confirmation, this early in the process.
