Proposition 77 Versions: Posted

Filed under: Government — Patterico @ 6:05 pm

All hail Dan Weintraub! He has posted links to the version of Proposition 77 submitted to Bill Lockyer, and the version signed by voters. (As it turns out, the latter is on Ted Costa’s web site, and is denoted the “text of the initiative.” Costa should make it clear that this is the version submitted to voters, and not the version submitted to the A.G.) You can now compare the two.

Now — does anyone have a copy of the court’s decision?

UPDATE: Yes, someone does, and thanks to Kevin Murphy in the comments, you can read it too.

I’ll see if I can look at this and render some kind of opinion tomorrow.

  1. The judge’s decision is on Rick Hasen’s site. Of course.

  2. Why does the Sacramento Bee website require registration to even read their weblog? Why are these newspaper websites now requiring registration, which is free anyway? I hope that that the Bee’s excellent website is not now requiring user registration to read George Will’s and William F. Buckley’s columns, which that site is known to feature. If your readers do not want to register at that site (which I’ve heard can have drawbacks), I hope that they know that they can still read the items at that site [and at other sites, such as nytimes.com] by using BugMeNot.com. Would it be permissable for someone to post publicly the username and password that they provide, for all of us to use?

The decision was issued by Judge Gail Ohanesian; I checked the latest news items, but I haven’t been able to find the actual copy of the ruling… It should become available online before too long, though. The bottom portion at this LA Times article contains a comparison of the two versions.

Several readers have asked that I link to the actual text of the two Proposition 77s, the one submitted to the Attorney General for title and summary and t…
