Sniglet of the Day:

Tancredulous
tan·cred·u·lous
(tan-‘kre-j&-l&s)
adj.
1. Describing the state of disbelief upon hearing a national politician talk about bombing Mecca: “I heard that moron and I was absolutely tancredulous.”

P.S. What is Rich Hall doing nowadays anyway?

P.P.S. A commenter provides the answer: being a jerk.

  1. Well, no. I’m not even sure the Israelis would do that if someone bombed Tel Aviv.

On the other hand, should a smuggled nuke go off, South Waziristan would be a bad place to be, and anyone 18-35 oughtn’t sign any leases….

  2. Speaking as a father, my opinion is that the best threat is the one you don’t spell out.

Just make it clear that it would *not* be a good idea to nuke us. They’ll get the idea.

  3. Reminds me of why Bush did such a good job immediately after 9-11. He did NOT go after Saudi Arabia, even tho OBL had deliberately stacked his 9-11 team with Saudis in an attempt to incite a war between his (OBL’s) near and far enemies. Such a war would have inevitably meant an attack on Mecca, of course, holy war to follow.

But Bush never fell for it. The rest you know.

  4. Patterico,

BTW, it’s funny how often I too think in terms of fatherly reactions, even for major events. The one that usually comes to my own mind is, “don’t make me get up!”

Seriously, in a way, 9-11 made the US get up. It couldn’t be ignored, as say, the Cole incident had been. The US had to get up, and it still is.

  5. 1. Congressman Tancredo recently requested a briefing from the Justice Department about any potential al-Qaida nuclear attacks on the USA. See World Net Daily Article July 13, 2005.

    2. The serious issues that nobody wants to tackle is the border with Mexico (and Canada). SOme reports suggest that there are already nuclear suitcases in the USA and one analyst suggests that USA will be hit simultenaously with nukes or dirty nukes within the next 6 mos. That’s scary.

    3. This post with its daunting pictures drives the point home. You can also listen to the audio-file of the segment of Congressman Tom Tancredo’s interview here http://satire.myblogsite.com/blog
