Ted Rall: Still a Liar
Remember what Ted Rall said when he issued his challenge to right-wingers:
So here’s my challenge: Please email your worst, most vicious examples of liberal/leftie blogger vitriol (with links, natch), and I’ll post ’em right here. If they exist, obviously.
(Emphasis mine.)
He didn’t say: “I’ll post one representative e-mail and then allude to the rest.” He said: “I’ll post ’em right here.”
Now he’s going back on his pledge.
First, Rall set up an e-mail address that didn’t work. Then, after Rall got called on the fact that e-mails to him kept bouncing, he changed the e-mail address — but didn’t update the original post in which he issued the challenge, to reflect the new address.
Despite all these roadblocks, he still received an appalling number of entries.
So: did he “post ’em right here”? Nope. After posting one single entry, Rall says:
Don’t doubt, my fellow progressives, that there are more–many more–where these came from. I have about 20 more acceptable entries along these lines. And I received a few that were so ugly that I won’t even post them because they were so racist and bigoted that I’m afraid people might think *I’d* posted them.
Nonsense. Rall had no such qualms when he posted — at great length — hate mail that he claims* was sent to him in the past.
The reason Rall isn’t posting all the entries he received is obvious: the more left-wing hate-filled crap he posts, the stupider his challenge looks. So he pretends to take the high ground by (sort of) admitting he was wrong — but fails to follow through on his pledge, and hopes we won’t notice.
Well, we do.
*I refer to hate mail that Rall “claims” he received, because I don’t know whether Rall really received it. After all, Ted Rall lies — this very post is evidence of that.
P.S. This post initially also contained the following language:
Rall is well-known as a left-winger. Nobody is going to think that Rall posted rantings against left-wing personalities. This is an obvious and pathetic dodge.
Huh? I gotta get more sleep, because this argument made no sense. If I were someone else, I’d be making fun of myself. As commenter Dafydd points out, I had it exactly backwards.
But it’s still a dodge, just not for the reason I said. As Dafydd also notes, Rall could easily show that these are not his sentiments. For example, he could put them in a different typeface.
The guy has no excuse for not keeping his word.
UPDATE: Joshua in the comments notes a couple other entries Rall has posted, in other posts. He still admits he is withholding many more entries.

Er… Patterico, one presumes that Rall is speaking about rantings by “left-wing personalities” against right-wing personalities. So he would indeed be in danger of being mistaken for the poster, considering the typical IQ of his readers…!
Still no excuse. He could select a different typeface or make them all italics or somesuch, much as I did above.

Pejmanesque (2ae9b5) — 3/1/2005 @ 7:23 pmResponding to Ted Rall is a waste of time….
Good Lord.
I gotta get more sleep, Dafydd. The exhaustion is starting to show in lack of logic.
Thanks for the heads up. I have done an update.
Patterico (756436) — 3/1/2005 @ 7:33 pmRall did post three other qualifying entries, two of which included multiple qualifying threats:
here and here.
Since Rall admitted that there are, indeed, death threats by liberal/left bloggers and commenters against conservatives, I am willing to give him credit for that.
However, Rall just said something which baffled me: “Tens of millions of Americans believe that Bush bullied the Supreme Court into violating the Constitution, and threatened a military coup during the Florida election crisis.” See this entry. What’s he talking about? How could tens of millions of Americans believe something I’ve never even heard them claim? Did I miss the Democratic Underground post the day that came up?
Joshua (f05398) — 3/1/2005 @ 9:42 pmThe local St. Louis, Mo newspaper no longer carries Rall…
Is it in anyone else’s local paper?
russ (5f8988) — 3/2/2005 @ 4:43 pmIn case there are any pedantic left-wingers reading this, I mean that I can’t remember anybody claiming that Bush bullied the Supreme Court or threatened a military coup — not even one person, much less tens of millions.
Joshua (f05398) — 3/2/2005 @ 10:24 pmCan you folks write a complete, coherent sentence? If anyone ever needed proof that “there is no such thing as a conservative intellectual,” this nutty collection of outbursts and timid babble would be a good place to start.
