Jim Bradley (4c1dc6) — 2/14/2005 @ 11:49 pmWell in the comments there is a large black whole coming at me from the left. ( not joking) I assume you guys are making to much of brower compatibility. I biuld my four blogs all standard, I’m happy with the simple view. I prefered the old look better, this looks too InstaInspired, but that is just me. Really loyal readers don’t care too much what your site looks like , it is all about what you don’t get sick looking at.
Zed (e4e2fb) — 2/14/2005 @ 11:55 pmWorks pretty well with Firefox. Only one small issue: the right border of the blogads block seems to disappear into the right scroll bar, although you can see all the ad. This is _not_ a function of window size.
WIndow resizes to “too narrow” and “too wide” seem to work just fine excpet for fixed width items (trackback URL, top graphic, this here comment box) which overlay the RH column on narrow windows. Photos will likely do the same thing if too wide. Probably nothing to do about that.
There IS a problem with MSIE 6: The last few characters of any text underlay (disappear under) the RH column’s background. THis is independent of window width — if the word wrap isn’t jsut right, the end of the word disappears. Also noticed regardless of width with the right-justified “Comments(n)” thingy at the end of each post.
Kevin Murphy (6a7945) — 2/15/2005 @ 12:09 amZed: I have the same issue. I notice that it goes away if I scroll down and then back up. I was wondering if other people have that issue, or if it’s just me. If others are having it, I’ll let Jay know, since it’s not going to work to have that as an issue for many readers.
I have the issue of the comments box extending into the sidebar. Same thing for longer trackback information. I am interested in any other problems people have.
We’re stuck with this layout for 3 days, since Jay is out of town. Personally, I think it looks snazzier and more professional — but as Zed notes, that’s all a moot point if there are issues with the blog’s appearance, which distract from the content.
Patterico (756436) — 2/15/2005 @ 3:24 amDoes anyone else get Zed’s “black holes”?
Patterico (756436) — 2/15/2005 @ 3:26 amMy screen area is 1024 X 768, and the page presents perfectly in both Firefox 1.0, and MSIE 6.0.2800.1106. I see none of the above mentioned problems. Some may need to check their system resources. Or you may have located and fixed whatever on the server side was causing the problems, or a bit of both.
Congratulations on your millionth hit 🙂
RedJacket (c466f4) — 2/15/2005 @ 3:50 amNo problems for me looking at the site with Firefox 1.0.
It looks good.
Reckers (7621d8) — 2/15/2005 @ 4:39 amWell I’ve yet to make the move to firefox, I will note that I really like this live preview, that is damn neat. I was going to mention that comments pop out window is always user friendly but now I’m too distracted by this live preview to have any issues, 1st time I’ve seen this.
Zed (a2c6ec) — 2/15/2005 @ 7:34 amLooks great on my Mac with Safari. Congrats on the one million.
Scott B (b0f173) — 2/15/2005 @ 7:51 amI should point out that I’m running XP Pro, and my screen dimensions are an unusual 1920×1200. nVidea driver and HP display.
Again, only problem with Firefox 1.0 is a slight rightward displacement of the Blogad box. OH WAIT. This seems to be related to type size, and may be caused by a type mismatch between the normal style and the blogad style. If I make the text (too) tiny, the blogad box comes fully into the frame. Since MSIE does not have the level of text size control that Firefox does, this may eplain this difference in behavior.
Kevin Murphy (6a7945) — 2/15/2005 @ 8:48 amClean, easily readable, no major artifacts at this time.
No clutter, loads fast. Content loads first, then the sidebar[s], very much my preference (I’m on dialup). I’m willing to look at ads, but when they grab me by the neck and shove my face in they fail to achieve their purpose.
IOW, fine by me. Opera 7.54 over Win98SE.

one other strange thing about your new design, It appears, though I could be wrong, that one of your blogads are missing, have you checked in with http://www.blogads.com Zed (ba3d06) — 2/15/2005 @ 9:33 pm
Zed,
I just approved a new one. Do you see it now?
