Patterico,
Can you please point me at the code you used to do this? This would be perfect for what I’m calling blogalogging, a real-time, live conversation between two or more participants, that is immediately visible to the blog readers.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, I used the plugin published here.

Steve Bragg (9279e5) — 2/9/2005 @ 12:00 pmGimme some lovin’. This is great, but don’t you worry that people will be so dazzled by this space-age goodness (AKA bad radness) that they’ll forget what they meant to comment on?

Okay, I’m checking it out now….
Wow, that is weird. I suppose I can get use to seeing the comment show up both at and below my insert point as I type, but it’s also somewhat distracting.
Is there some reason this software can’t preview comments the old-fashioned way — where one clicks “preview” or somesuch instead of “post?”
Okay, it’s not as bad as I thought: as soon as you write long enough, the visible preview scrolls off the bottom, so you no longer see the letters appearing below your typed line. I guess this is workable.
I do think it’s a bit of techno triumphalism, however. Show-offy for no particular benefit. Maybe I’m too retro.

Dafydd (df2f54) — 2/9/2005 @ 1:48 pmBelieve it or not Dafydd, I’ve found implementing a preview button much more… difficult. I don’t consider it show-offy, I for one don’t look at the live preview until I’m done leaving a comment. It does, however, save commenters a page load and a click.
OF Jay (aa85b2) — 2/9/2005 @ 3:16 pmThis is BOSS, Patterico! WeeeHEEEE! Heh, now all you need is live spellchekcing.
Now … if you can just bring xrlq up to speed; he desperately needs this at his blog! 🙂
clark smith (4de06f) — 2/10/2005 @ 1:40 amTest! This is weird! How I can link.
OK. Sweet.
This would be really useful in the blogger’s private posting area (by blogger I mean me). It’s so easy to get tags wrong. And the title attribute for links works! I think I’ll steal it.
Brian O'Connell (69c9fc) — 2/10/2005 @ 7:28 amI hate this Live Preview feature. What I’d like to see is an input text box which has more than 5 lines.
