Obama: Race Still Haunts Us

In his press conference tonight, Barack Obama was asked if he had any comment on the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., discussed in Patterico’s earlier post. Obama stated he didn’t want to address the controversy surrounding his friend, Skip, because he didn’t know all the facts.

But … he nevertheless gave it his best shot, stating that if this had happened to us, “any of us would be pretty angry;” that the “Cambridge police acted stupidly;” and that there is a “long history in this country” of blacks being stopped disproportionately so race still “haunts us.”
