Ahhh, Mr Jacobs, you didn't link to the specific story, so I assume that you meant this lady.

Apparently, SPC Pico hasn't been writing you too frequently, or you'd have known about her promotion. And at her last drill, she passed yet another physical fitness test, something which the linked lady might have a bit of difficulty in doing; it seems as though the sit-ups would be particularly challenging.

I'm guessing that this young lady outweighs the entire Pico family -- including the cats!

"... a female teacher who slept with her underage male students. Should she be sentenced to twenty-five years to life?.."

I think we should poll the parents of those students. I don't think the answer would be unanimous.

But of course, the financial meltdown in Greece is the German's fault, because they looted the Greek Treasury in 1941!
Didn't you get the memo?

Nice recap. Again the absolute desperation to get this thing passed is all we need to know. Its hard to fathom one man being so in need of validation - so much so that he is more than willing to undermine the will of the people.

You might also ask “How can the House condition their vote on the actions of the Senate?”

Right.

Part of the problem I have with discussing this is that until I see how the particular rule is structured, I can only speculate about what they might be trying to do and whether that would be OK.

But I feel comfortable saying this: a resolution by the House saying that "[bill x] shall be deemed passed if the Senate does [y]" cannot possibly comport with the presentment clause. Such a resolution would be no different than the legislative veto.

Early 30's, and I simply won't pay. I welcome their attempt to force me to. I've always wanted to have my name associated with a Supreme Court Case, and this method means I don't have to involve a rifle and a bell tower...

I fail to see a problem with this.

The problem is that it's not what is being proposed. Conservatives are supposed to be hard-headed and realistic, but there's a lot of mawkish sentiment driving the proposed policy changes here.

There was a case in the news last year about a female teacher who slept with her underage male students. Should she be sentenced to twenty-five years to life? If not, how do we identify which people should be given those harsher sentences?

There is such a thing as an acceptable level of death. About 40,000 people die each year in auto accidents. We could reduce that number, at a cost, but we deem that doing so is not worth the extra cost.

Are "too many" children/teenagers being kidnapped and murdered each year? It's not obvious to me that the answer is yes, but it is obvious that many people are not bothering to even ask the question.
