Bush Nominates Roberts to Replace Rehnquist as Chief Justice

Filed under: Judiciary — Patterico @ 3:30 pm

The story is here. Just call me Karnak.

UPDATE: Stuart Buck notes that Roberts could be both O’Connor’s replacement and Chief Justice.

UPDATE x2: Scrappleface reports that Democrats are demanding a conservative originalist to replace Rehnquist, to maintain the balance of the Court.

  1. The quick nomination of John Roberts for Chief Justice isn’t justified by the record. Roberts isn’t even on the Supreme Court yet, much less has he demonstrated he’s suitable to lead the Court.

We should rethink Ann Coulter’s original objections to the Roberts nomination. The stakes are now much too high for Pollyanna hopes and pious assumptions. We need clear and unambiguous proof that John Roberts is the right man for the job. The case hasn’t been made, the arguments haven’t been heard, and the jury is getting very uneasy.

  2. Democrats are demanding more liberal judges so they don’t have to bother with pleasing voters to win elections.

  3. Pehaps as time goes by this will look to be an excellent choice. I don’t think that anyone we would want wants the job, and this avoids the resubmission to Congress of a sitting Justice.

He will be consented to by the Senate, according to most reports I have seen, so here we have it and I submit that we will like it.

  4. Why should we have to take the Roberts nomination as an article of faith? I do think he will be confirmed, and I do hope we will like it. But, we’ve been had before, and I don’t want to take any chances that might happen again. I trust George W Bush’s judgment, and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I still want Roberts credentials to lead the Supreme Court verified prior to his approval. There’s too much at stake for hopes and prayers. I need to see proof.

    And disfavor.

They point out Africans’ failed attempts to domesticate the elephant and zebra, the latter being an animal they illustrate that had utmost importance for it’s applicability in transformation from a hunting/gathering to agrarian-based civilization.

The North American continent had none. Now 99% of that population is gone.

    Terrestrial management:

    4. Chinese/egyptians – this may be separated into the eastern and western worlds
    5. Romans – they answer to the egyptians
    6. Mafia – the real-world interface that constantly turns over generationally so as to reinforce the widely-held notion of mortality
    7. Jews, corporation, women, politician – Evidence exisits to suggest mafia management over all these groups.
