CNN To Host LGBTQ Town Hall For Democratic Candidates

Filed under: General — Dana @ 2:32 pm

[guest post by Dana]

Maybe hoping to replicate their climate change town hall ratings bonanza (did anyone even watch it?), CNN is slated to host a more than four-hour long LGBTQ town hall for the Democratic presidential candidates:

Nine Democratic presidential candidates have accepted the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s invitation to participate in a CNN town hall next month focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer issues. HRC is billing the October 10 town hall in Los Angeles, “Power of our Pride,” and it coincides with the 31st anniversary of National Coming Out Day on October 11.

[…]

Two candidates will appear back-to-back each hour throughout the evening and take questions from the audience and a CNN moderator…

Businessman Tom Steyer will be interviewed by CNN’s Dana Bash at 7 p.m.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker will be interviewed by Bash at 7:30 p.m.
Former Vice President Joe Biden will be interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper at 8 p.m.
California Sen. Kamala Harris, will be interviewed by Cooper at 8:30 p.m.
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren will be interviewed by CNN’s Chris Cuomo at 9 p.m.
South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg will be interviewed by Cuomo at 9:30 p.m.
Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke will be interviewed by CNN’s Don Lemon at 10 p.m.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar will be interviewed by Lemon at 10:30 p.m.
Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro will be interviewed by Cooper at 11 p.m.

Due to scheduling conflicts, both Bernie Sanders and Andrew Yang will be no-shows. Invited guests, LGBTQ stakeholders and members of civic organizations will comprise the invitation-only audience.

Me, I’m still waiting for CNN to host a National Debt town hall, where Democratic candidates are invited to spar over the most effective way to cut spending and decrease the nation’s outrageous debt…

  2. Dems don’t even pretend to care about that.

    Time123 (6b7f02)

  3. So, they’re going to stand up there, and compete with each other in how far to the left they can go, and they think that this is going to win them votes in the states President Trump carried? 🙂

You mean Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania? Because that is pretty darn likely. Or are you talking about Florida, North Carolina, or Arizona, still probable? Or are you talking about Texas and Georgia, possible but not likely?

    Colonel Klink (Ret) (6e7a1c)

  5. Looking forward to an 8 hour townhall on white supremacy and the scourge of capitalism.

    bud (b48f3e)

  6. A national debt town hall. Cnn ask to lower national debt should we raise taxes on the rich & corporations by 75% or 90%? Should the inheritance tax be 50% or 75%? Should wealth tax be 5% or higher? How much should we cut out of the defense budget> How many aircraft carriers should we sell? how many f-35s should we sell off? how many military bases should we close? If national debt is so important how many prisons should we close?

  7. @4 arizona is very close to blue. look what happened in 2018. Every day in arizona 100 mexican turn voting age and they have voter ids. Also white democrats are following white republicans here from california.

Make “the rich” pay “their fair share.”

    Next question!

  10. 9. Wait a minute. Republicans are interested in cutting spending? News to me.

    Gryph (08c844)

  11. I wonder if any of the reporters will ask a candidate if the US should follow Canada’s lead and recommend taxpayer-funded cervical cancer screening to transgender women w no cervix.

  12. “@4 arizona is very close to blue. look what happened in 2018. Every day in arizona 100 mexican turn voting age and they have voter ids.”

this must be tifosa or perry’s new moniker.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  13. I’d like to see them debate gun control, religious freedom, economic liberty, property rights, free speech, reducing regulations and saving the EXISTING Medicare. We could block out a whole week for it.

    Kevin M (19357e)

  14. I wonder if any of the reporters will ask a candidate if the US should follow Canada’s lead and recommend taxpayer-funded cervical cancer screening to transgender women w no cervix.

    Or prostate biopsies to trans-men.

  15. arizona is very close to blue. look what happened in 2018

    Yeah, rely on that.

  16. There’s gotta be a secret group of Trump mega-donors bankrolling these these Democrat town halls.

  19. Oh man, the climate debate was last week. Why didn’t he pimp this gem so they could all climb aboard:

    Free Beacon
    @FreeBeacon
Yang: Climate Change May Require Elimination of Car Ownership

  20. What are they going to discuss for half an hour? I didn’t think things were going particularly poorly for gay people ATM.

    Nic (896fdf)

  21. So, they’re going to stand up there, and compete with each other in how far to the left they can go, and they think that this is going to win them votes in the states President Trump carried

This particular one won’t matter. The people who care about the right of businessmen to refuse to assist at SSMs aren’t likely to vote for Democrats.

One thing I noticed. CNN seems to think one gay anchor suffices for a gay townhall.

    Kishnevi (e89fd2)

  22. What will they pander this time, firsr time it was single payer then green new deal, im afraid to ask.

    Narciso (181de5)

  23. I note the omission of Little Aloha Sweetie and hope that means she has told them to go pound sand. But it probably indicates that she wasn’t even asked.

    JVW (54fd0b)

  24. 9 – I haven’t laughed so hard since 1967. Republicans never cut spending. Look at the drunken booosh years.

    mg (8cbc69)

  25. Mittens/Sharpton/2020
    A never Trumpers dream!

    mg (8cbc69)

  26. Conservatives 1990s: We like family values and moral virtue!

Democrats 1990s: We like no values.

Conservatives 2016: Hmm, we should try that. We now like no values too.

Democrats 2017: Whaa? Well we now like values and virtue.

Conservatives 2019: Riiight sure ya do. Suck it! TRUMP 2020.

    JRH (52aed3)

  27. JRH, Agree….mostly. A good number of those early conservatives were only paying lip service to family values and moral virtue, however. Not all, certainly, but an embarrassing number. Who once revealed for their hypocrisy further undermined both the political right and those very moral and family values. Toothpaste, tube, and good luck putting it back.

I’m a firm believer in Breitbart’s “politics is downstream from culture”. Once you undermine the culture to such a degree, and hypocrisy is one of the finest tools for doing so, there’s no putting things right via politics. The culture has to change first. And that change can only come from within each individual. It cannot be forced from the outside. It can, of course, be suggested and encouraged, but never forced or you will end up with an even bigger problem. When you do see genuine virtue in politics (heh…in baby steps…theoretically even), it is more a reflection of a change in the culture from years previous.

    PTw (894877)

  28. I also agree, except for

Democrats 2017: Whaa? Well we now like values and virtue.

but I’m willing to be enlightened. Such as?

    nk (dbc370)

  29. Who put a nambla supporter in the department of education again?

    Narciso (181de5)

  30. Nature (family, education, the media, etc.) impacts culture but I think geography (where/how we live) also affects culture. Maybe the increased urbanization of Americans is changing our values. Instead of Trump changing the political landscape, perhaps he is a reflection of how we have already changed.

    DRJ (15874d)

  31. Distinction between his personal views (which have always been liberal) and the policies hes pushing

    Narciso (181de5)

  32. @28. It’s a gross oversimplification for sure, but that’s my summation of the Dems’ reaction to Trump’s immorality (lies, pu$$y grabbing, pay-offs, general odiousness). Mainly pearl-clutching but I think the ousting of Al Franken is one example.

    JRH (52aed3)

  33. 3. The realistic Dana (c54f3b) — 9/19/2019 @ 3:16 pm

they’re going to stand up there, and compete with each other in how far to the left they can go, and they think that this is going to win them votes in the states President Trump carried

No, they think it isn’t going to cost them votes (because this is all now so unanimous) but not agreeing could cost tthem some primary votes, or make peole scared that it will.

The election of 2020 is shaping up to be not about winning votes, but about increasing turnout while strategizing about how to avoid losing votes

Whoever loses the least votes, Donald Trump or the Democratic nominee, wins.

That is definitely Joe Biden’s strategy.

    Sammy Finkelman (9a15c6)

  34. Nothing of a kind, we saw the way prop 8 was blocked, the virtue signaling leading to oberfell.

    Narciso (181de5)

  35. “Instead of Trump changing the political landscape, perhaps he is a reflection of how we have already changed.”

    Or haven’t.

And with the constant elevation/celebration of the lowest in lieu of anything virtuous, lovely, of good report or praiseworthy, is it any wonder?

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  36. 26.

Democrats 1990s: We like no values.

Actually: We like values, escept not some of those the Republicans like, but we kind of like them anyway, and we pretend to have values.

    Sammy Finkelman (9a15c6)

  37. Instability is a known consequence of urbanization. Trump is a long-time liberal, but it isn’t surprising to see a wealthy urbanite becomes protective and even insular – which IMO is Trump’s version of conservatism. This is why he can seem conservative but he doesn’t actually grasp conservative values.

    DRJ (15874d)

  38. I’m going to initiate a five day waiting period on Trump stories… five days before I pay any attention.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  39. It’s no great surprise that Trump’s most loyal and angry fans were also Romney’s. Very similar in a lot of ways. Particularly reliability.

    Dustin (9537e1)

  40. No romney wouldnt even stick up for his ailing wife, and he was basenghi against obama, but hes bff with harry reid who defamed him.

  42. But he was willing to throw kavanaugh under the bus, same with the kingdom, its like a tuning fork, in 94, kennedy beat him like a red headed stepchild, despite his protestations reagan was icky.

    Narciso (181de5)

  43. Put a kid in a red hat in front of him, there’s no telling what he might do.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  44. He never learns, like one of those times anthroplogists in the midwest, of course his firm was in partnership with huawei, which is an appendage of the chinese state.

    Narciso (181de5)

  45. Perhaps a mad scientist’s hybrid of Mazie Hirono and Barney Fife…

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  46. It’s an internal power struggle in The Matriarchy, between Kellyanne Conway and Ronna McDaniel, and both Trump and Romney are merely their catspaws.

  47. And Putin smiled.

    nk (dbc370)

  48. Putin lost a fixed primary or whatever they call it over there, that was the worse bet since le chiffre bluffed bond

  52. I’m talking about Romney’s perfidy, DRJ. He’s a backstab er.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  53. A big disappointment.

  54. And why on earth would you think it’s about Dustin?

  60. We’re going to have nine of these bozos standing up there, telling us why Lola isn’t just a song but a social plan for our future.

Girls will be boys, and boys will be girls
It’s a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world

They’ve got to defend letting adult men males into women’s and girls’ locker rooms if they ‘identify’ as female, using taxpayers dollars to pay for sexual ‘reassignment’ medication and surgery and forcing bakers and florists to service same-sex ‘weddings.’ Good luck with that.
