President Trump: Boy, I Sure Didn’t Like That ‘Send Her Back’ Chanting Last Night

Filed under: General — Dana @ 1:05 pm

[guest post by Dana]

You’ve got to be kidding me! Has he seen the video??

[Ed. This is a full clip of his comments focusing on Rep. Omar, which is worth watching as you can clearly see his intentional build up in his attacks on her. You can start at the 3:38 mark for the shorter version]:

My immediate reaction to his claim is, why didn’t he interrupt his supporters and explain to them that we don’t deport U.S. citizens? And that is what he was asked by reporters about the “Send her back” chant:

“I was not happy with it. I disagree with it,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

The chant began as the president made a litany of attacks on Omar, part of his days-long onslaught against a group of four minority, progressive Democratic congresswomen.

Asked why he did not stop the chants, Trump responded, “I think I did. I started speaking very quickly.”

The president did not speak up to stop the refrain. After the chants began, he paused for 14 seconds, looked around with a neutral expression and waited for the crowd to quiet down before continuing his remarks.

Trump also said that he did not chant “send her back”.

And speaking of Rep. Ilhan Omar, she was approached by reporters today outside of the capitol and decided to block traffic on Independence Avenue so that she could answer their questions. She responded to questions about the “Send her back” chant at Trump’s rally last night:

“I am not [scared for my safety.] What I’m scared for is the safety for people who share my identity,” Omar told a gaggle of journalists on Thursday.

“This is not about me. This is about fighting for what this country should be and what it deserves to be.”

She also accused the president of being “a racist” and “a fascist”.

Meh. I can’t stomach either one of them. They’re both grifters in it for themselves.

Anyway, I’ll leave you with something to make you roll your eyes: The View’s Joy Behar asks her fellow members of the brain trust why Trump can’t be brought up on charges of hate speech following last night’s rally:

America.

    You’re not saying anything new.

Are you trying to convince your readers that we should accept that Trump is a liar? I don’t think any of his supporters would object.

Are you trying to convince his supporters to rethink their support?

    Colonel Klink (Ret) (6e7a1c)

  23. Well, if you knew what that was, you’d know how stupid it is to align her with it.

    Not at all

. The exception to this is the Middle East, where a large number of Arab and Muslim regimes and leaders have endorsed them as authentic. Past endorsements of The Protocols from Presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat of Egypt, Iraqi President Arif, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, and Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi of Libya, among other political and intellectual leaders of the Arab world, are echoed by 21st century endorsements from the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Ekrima Sa’id Sabri, and Hamas, to the education ministry of Saudi Arabia.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_imprints_of_The_Protocols_of_the_Elders_of_Zion

The page continues with more examples, including this one that includes Omar’s friend Louis F.

The American retail chain Wal-Mart was criticized for selling The Protocols of the Elders of Zion on its website with a description that suggested it might be genuine.[25] It was withdrawn from sale in September 2004, as ‘a business decision’. It was distributed in the United States by Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.[26]

In 2002, the Paterson, New Jersey-based Arabic language newspaper The Arab Voice published excerpts from the Protocols as true.[27] The paper’s editor and publisher Walid Rabah defended himself from criticism with the protestation that “some major writers in the Arab nation accept the truth of the book.”[28]

    Kishnevi (14a2e1)

  24. Were they immigration documents Dave that caused him and his family to illegally enter?

She did not enter illegally (she was 10 years old at the time), and had been a US citizen for nine years at the time the alleged fraudulent marriage took place.

So even if the allegation is true, it has no bearing whatsoever on her own citizenship status, and her situation is thus no different than Duncan Hunter’s in that regard.

    Paul Montagu (dbd3cc)

  32. At this point, as much as I dislike Trump, my gripe is less with him and more with his supporters. You wouldn’t have one without the other. Trump knows precisely what he is doing when he trolls the left and simultaneously exploits the fears and anger of his supporters. I’m not sure his supporters (like the ones at the rally) understand that, or maybe they do and just don’t care because they feel, the end result (him in the WH) is worth it.

    Dana (bb0678)

  33. On Trump’s claim that he tried to stop the “send her back!” chants: Whopper, which is not a surprise.

    Paul Montagu (dbd3cc)

  34. Trump tried to play innocent the first time his cultists started chanting “Lock her up!” too:

    (h/t: Allahpundit)

“I think it’s a shame that they said it but a lot of people would say that should happen.”

Sound familiar? Allahpundit goes on to note:

Within days, as the chanting persisted, he was telling audiences, “I’ve been saying let’s just beat her on November 8th. But you know what, I’m starting to agree with you.” He’s not a guy inclined to resist the most demagogic urges of a crowd.

Later, during one of the debates, he promised to put Clinton in jail.

    Dave (1bb933)

  35. @39. ‘Cultists?’ Reagan dimes, Reagan airports, Reagan highways, Reagan tunnels, Reagan bridges, Reagan schools and the quest for Reagan on Mt. Rushmore. That ‘Allahpundit’ dude has no concept of what a genuine ‘cultist’ is.

  37. “What I’m scared for is the safety for people who share my identity,” Omar told a gaggle of journalists on Thursday.

“This is not about me. This is about fighting for what this country should be and what it deserves to be.””

YES, it very much is about fighting for what this country should be, NO, it should not look like one that would produce Ilhan Omar (imagine an entire nation of bitter Minnesota catladies showing off their ethnic pets!)

Ilhan Omar has so far proved to be more honest than any NeverTrumper trying to commentate on her situation. EXCERPT:

“Trump is a thin-skinned liar, Omar is an America-hating liar, Joy Behar is as dumb as a rock. So there. Have I covered everything?”

Dana covered everything except the relevant and interesting details, yes.

“Trump tried to play innocent the first time his cultists started chanting “Lock her up!” too:”

Dave apparently believes it’s cultish to believe in jail for criminals…

“There’s no functional difference between “send her back”, which he purportedly opposes, and “go back”, which Trump said out loud.”

Paul believes that there is no difference between coercion and non-coercion, which I’ll be sure to mention when I spend all the money in his wallet I found….

“He, over and over again, uses the language of David Duke but you don’t see the racism. ”

And noel takes the broke ‘Hitler ate sugar’ to the woke ‘WILLIAM BEDFORD FORREST SPOKE ENGLISH!!!’

In conclusion, NeverTrumpers are a joke.

    Advocat (dac52a)

  38. According to CBS News, Trump got criticized on this chant by his daughter Ivanka, his wife Melania, and Republican members of Congress were asking Vice President Mike Pence to carry the message to him. (Remember, he’d just gotten condemned by the U.S. House of Represenatves for this kind of thing)

Trump hesitated in coming out against it because he thought it would disappoint (or depress?) his supporters.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  40. Col,

  41. Paul believes that there is no difference between coercion and non-coercion, which I’ll be sure to mention when I spend all the money in his wallet I found….

Thank you for telling me what I believe, Advocat. I never would have have known what I was really thinking without your helpful intervention. BTW, mindreading is an intellectually lazy and dishonest practice.
Since both statements are unenforceable demands that have no police power to back them up, there’s no functional difference between “send her back” and “go back”. They’re both just racist rhetoric directed toward brown-skinned US citizens.

    Paul Montagu (dbd3cc)

  42. . The exception to this is the Middle East, where a large number of Arab and Muslim regimes and leaders have endorsed them as authentic. Where did Omar endorse this?

The page continues with more examples, including this one that includes Omar’s friend Louis F.

Where’s the evidence that Omar endorsed this? Also, Omar isn’t friends with Farrakhan, doesn’t even appear to know the old man from New York. He said stuff about her, but one thing is not the other.

Jeez, I hate defending these four dum-dums, but why make up connections to conspiracy theories when reality exists? Be against them for things that happened in reality, not fantasy, and Omar’s said a lot of dumb things, just not those dumb things.

    Colonel Klink (Ret) (6e7a1c)

  43. and yet the democrats have spent three years, including presenting false documentation to do just that, so he can be excused to rely on the efficacy of a corroded legal apparat, which still cannot apologize for it’s malfeasance, examples I have posted rather clearly,

    narciso (d1f714)

  44. He never apologized for falsely accusing the Central Park Five. Or for falsely claiming Obama lacked US citizenship. Or for defending white supremacists. Not for smearing a “Mexican” judge. He never apologized for insulting those “sh*thole countries”. Nor for using racially bigoted language against four women of color.

He never apologizes because that would be admitting he was wrong.

Maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t believe he’s wrong. He’s above that sort of thing. And some of you… agree with him.

    noel (e07fb0)

  45. do you ever get tired of being wrong, klink,

    narciso (d1f714)

  46. My larger theme is that conservatives can factually and truthfully criticize the ridiculous positions of liberals such as the “squad” and other folks, all without resorting to overblown hyperbole and racist tropes. In Berkeley, for example, the jackholes on the city council are doing away with manholes, in yet another instance of political correctness gone wild. A city employee could get reprimanded if the he/she/ze says “manhole” instead of “maintenance hole”.

    Paul Montagu (dbd3cc)

  47. According to CBS News, Trump got criticized on this chant by his daughter Ivanka, his wife Melania, and Republican members of Congress were asking Vice President Mike Pence to carry the message to him. Losers. Ivanka couldn’t elected to dog catcher. But this isn’t a hill to die on. Nobody cares. Let the RINO’s win one.

    rcocean (1a839e)

  48. Avoiding “racist” talk and “Not giving the press ammunition” gives the Democrats/Media the power over you. All they have to do, is label any of your statements “racist” or say your supporters “did something racist” and you’re back-tracking, apologizing, and disavowing. They control the discourse, because your only desire is to not to be labeled “racist” or “Homophobic” or “Sexist”.

Eventually, they box you in, so all you’re able to talk about is tax cuts for the rich, “reaching across the aisle” and foreign policy. Which is where Jeb Bush was.

    rcocean (1a839e)

  49. Dana covered everything except the relevant and interesting details, yes.

    Heh.

    Dana (bb0678)

  50. This leads to the point. If you elected Bill Kristol or some Never Trumper POTUS what would they do? Given their comments in the last 3 years the answer is not much. Maybe start a war in the Middle east, “reach across the aisle” and try to gut Medicare and social security. Pass Amnesty. Give the Democrats open Borders. Surrender on the Culture war. Go full Globalist on Trade. No wonder Romney lost and no wonder nobody wants him back.

    rcocean (1a839e)

  54. “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”

    — Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.)

“This statement implies that Jewish politicians place Israel’s interests before America’s. This anti-Semitic trope of dual loyalty is famously displayed in “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” an anti-Semitic canard from 1919 that claimed Jews place the interests of themselves first. The idea has been used to discriminate against Jewish people for generations.

Omar’s comments leave an impression that she sees Jewish money and dual loyalty as the reason behind America’s support for Israel.”

    https://www.newsrecord.org/opinion/opinion-criticism-of-ilhan-omar-is-justified/article_2262cfd2-466b-11e9-9182-4b1e03af3f19.html

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  55. “When Representative Ilhan Omar recently complained about “the political influence in this country that says it is okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country,” many noted accurately that she had deployed a trope—dual loyalty—that had been used against Jews for years.

But this accusation has a broader history in the United States, having been used against several religious minorities—including Muslims like Omar. Indeed, many battles over religious freedom have revolved around dual-loyalty claims.

The dual-allegiance charge against Jews was enshrined in the most notorious anti-Semitic document, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which claimed that Jews would always place the interests of world Jewry over that of their host country. After the birth of Israel, Jews were sometimes accused of putting Israel’s interests before America’s, such as when some critics of the Iraq War suggested that Jewish neoconservatives were pushing the nation into a foolish conflict to advance Israel’s foreign-policy goals. More recently, American Muslims have been most subject to the dual-loyalty charge, something that Omar, as a trailblazing Muslim woman, should consider.”

If it was private, who leaked it?

We’re not even getting speculation in the continental United States press coverage.

They were published by something called the Center for Investigative Journalism. I think the story is somebody emailed archoved messages.

It could have been maybe one of the people in the CHAT group; it could have been maybe the compuyer of one of them was hacked; it could be – I don’t know – an insider at Telegram?

Whoever did it s probably very much against Trump, because San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz is a target of some of the comments – not that Trump is friendly with the Governor. But she is extreme.

CNN had a story going over some of the more controversial messages:

…In the chat, Christian Sobrino Vega — who was Puerto Rico’s chief fiscal officer at the time, and Roselló’s representative on the federal board responsible for managing Puerto Rico’s financial crisis — expressed frustration with Yulín Cruz.

“I am salivating to shoot her,” he wrote.

“You’d be doing me a grand favor,” the governor responded, according to the leaked chats.

At one point, the governor writes that Yulín Cruz must be “off her meds” by deciding to run against him.

“Either that, or she’s a tremendous HP,” he said, using the Spanish acronym for “son/daughter of a bitch.”

Yulín Cruz belongs to the opposition Popular Democratic Party and is running for governor.

Sobrino Vega and Secretary of State Luis Rivera Marin, who also participated in the chats, have both resigned.

I don’t think so sammeh, little Ricky was pawning the dysfunction on trump, this was while four of his officials were engaged in corrupt practices

    Narciso (c67b88)

  76. This is straight out of the Trump playbook. Stirp a frenzy, then disavow. He will say something incendiary one day, then deny he said it the next.

What is most revealing about this rally, which Dana neglects to mention in her summary, is that Trump read his speech from a teleprompter, so these were prepared remarks. I know he didn’t write them, because he’s largely illiterate and the remarks were too grammatically correct to have come from him. This wasn’t Trump going off script on an improvisational rant. No, clearly the administration thinks Trump in on to something, with this “America: Love It, or Leave It” theme, and some staff writer composed the speech along those lines.

When the madding crowd started chanting “Send her back!” Trump not only didn’t try to stop them, he basked in it. Watch the video, he’s proud. And the next day he says, “I didn’t like it.” Please.

The Republicans under Trump are becoming increasingly xenophobic, anti-immigrant and bigoted, isolationist and protectionist. This is disturbing on so many levels.

What’s next? Deportation of naturalized citizens based on ethnicity, religion or political affiliation? Eugenics for minorities; forced abortion to purify the population? Prosecution for hate speech of dissenting voices? Censorship, segregation, prohibition? That’s white nationalist KKK crap.

Some years ago when I was in graduate school, I was having a discussion about politics with another student. He was a liberal Democrat, and I at the time was a conservative Republican. He kept going on about how Republicans were racist bigots, the party of the KKK. I was like, what, are you kidding me? Don’t you know your history? Southern Democrats founded the KKK. He said, “Yeah, then they all became Republicans.” I had to laugh at the absurdity of that comment, but I’m coming to realize now many years later how prescient it was.

What happened to the party of equal rights, free trade, fiscal responsibility, and limited government? Oh, that’s right, it became the Libertarian party, because it never was the Democratic party and is no longer the Republican party.

Trump’s strategy is a variation of divide and conquer, except the direction he’s leading the Republican party in is the opposite of what it was founded on. Of course, he’s a lifelong Democrat. His grandfather–that would be the one who had the good sense to change the family name from Drumpf to Trump–was arrested in a protest march on the streets of New York in support of the KKK. His father used the new family name to build a real estate empire of low-rent projects, but Negroes, Catholics and Jews were excluded. The Donald himself continued this practice until the Trump organization was sued by the DOJ for violating the Fair Housing Act and fined $1 million. He signed a no lo contendere agreement and promised not to do it again. Yeah, right. He had African-American workers removed from the floor when he visited his casinos, all of which went bankrupt.

Trump prefers to hire immigrants, mostly from Nordic Eastern Europe, on H-2B visas to work his properties. That’s how he imported his third wife, who violated her work visa, which is another thing no one seems to care about. And he obviously is not beyond hiring illegal immigrants, as his management staff has not only hired them but given them false documentation.

Why doesn’t Trump hire Americans? Um, because they require a reasonable wage and benefits. American workers are more expensive and are not subject to deportation threats, no more than they are willing to submit to subjugation.

Trump is a total fraud. As a man, as a businessman, as a politician. He is KKK 2.0, only this time the sheets are orange.

If the Republicans want to follow him down this path, it’s a dead end.

  81. Mr. Geraghty has a great summary of all the sketchy stuff that Ms. Omar did and said, but it doesn’t matter with regard to her citizenship. Far as we know, she earned her right to be a US citizen and that right cannot be taken away.

The chant of “send her back” contends that citizenship is conditional, and that someone who became a U.S. citizen in 2000 could have her citizenship repealed because of her viewpoints. This is not how this has ever worked under the law, and, God willing, this country will never work that way. Much like “lock her up,” “send her back” is a chant that reflects how the crowd wishes America worked – that due process could be tossed aside and that those figures deemed most reprehensible in their minds could be punished immediately.

Speaking of rights, as I see it, any immigrant to the US, legal or illegal, does not have the right to be here. It sounds basic but liberals have gotten really angry at me for saying it. For legal immigrants, their presence is conditional on what they do and how they behave. They have rights under the Constitution, but not the right to reside on US soil.

  87. There’s a long New York Times today story about the uproar in Puerto Rico.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/18/us/puerto-rico-rossello-governor-protests.html

There’s not much more detail on the substance.

The news I got out of it is:

    1) It’s creating a little bit of an economic disruoption. Cruise ships ahve stopped docking in San Juan, and stores in Old San Juan were closed on Wednesday, with storefronts covered by storm shutters.

    2) There’s now some kind of a subpoena (the New York Times does not describe what kind of legal process this is or if and ow its being contested) for Governor Rosselló and the 11 other men on the leaked to turn over their cellphones to Puerto Rico’s Department of Justice.

    3) “Lawmakers have asked a panel of jurists to issue a recommendation on possible impeachment”

I don’t understand what that means. They apparently seem to be unsure of the law.

    4) Some people don’t want to move too fast because they are trying to arrange for a more orderly transition. Members of is party are looking for somebody to be secretary of state. “The governor technically has the right to fill that position, but he needs the support of the head of the Puerto Rico Senate and House of Representatives to get a person approved.”

I don’t understand what that means. He needs their support legally? He needs their support politically? Does the secretary of state need to be confirmed? Does he become acting Governor or is it just simply that he does the routine work? Can he hold the job anyway till he’s rejected? Have the successors named in the constitution resigned?

    5) Members of his party are divided on whether he should resign merely from the party presidency, or announce he won’t run for re-election next year, or resign immediately as Governor. They’re turning more and more against him. A meeting with Mayor Mayita Meléndez of Ponce didn’t go very well. She says she expected to see “a sensible man, a repentant man” but he just wanted to move on, so she wound up calling for im to resign now.

    6) Trump made two tweets about this yesterday morning, saying:

A lot of bad things are happening in Puerto Rico. The Governor is under siege, the Mayor of San Juan is a despicable and incompetent person who I wouldn’t trust under any circumstance, and the United States Congress foolishly gave 92 Billion Dollars for hurricane relief, much…

….of which was squandered away or wasted, never to be seen again. This is more than twice the amount given to Texas & Florida combined. I know the people of Puerto Rico well, and they are great. But much of their leadership is corrupt, & robbing the U.S. Government blind!

    And now I see there’s a podcast:

I have a suggestion for the hate-filled extremists who are constantly trying to tear our country down. That’s why I say: If they don’t like it, let them leave. If they don’t love it, tell them to leave it, I’m just saying, it’s their choice. They can come back when they want. I think in some cases they hate our country. And they’re so angry.

It’s almost like his disapproval was a lie, because other people felt shame for him, daughter dearest maybe, but since he is shameless, he didn’t, and he doesn’t today when reiterating his stupid racist moronic screed.

  93. Klink at 97,

Yes. If he disapproved, there was nothing in his body language or words that would lead anyone to believe it. He had the opportunity to express his disapproval, right then and there, and to educate his supporters so they wouldn’t continue to give Democrats a campaign ad for 2020, but he didn’t because he didn’t see anything wrong with what was being said. Moreover, he was pleased to see the Pavlovian response to his rhetoric. It confirmed that he’s still got it. Look out 2020!

  101. 81. Gawain’s Ghost (b25cd1) — 7/18/2019 @ 8:44 pm

His grandfather–that would be the one who had the good sense to change the family name from Drumpf to Trump–was arrested in a protest march on the streets of New York in support of the KKK.

That was his father, circa 1927, at the high point of the KKK. His grandfather died in the 1918 flu epidemic.

    https://www.politifact.com/facebook-fact-checks/statements/2019/mar/28/facebook-posts/heres-whats-known-about-fred-trumps-arrest-after-k

Fred Trump, then 21, was arrested at the parade along with six others, according to the New York Times. (His address was listed as 175-25 Devonshire Road, Jamaica, which matched the 1930 Census.) However, unlike the other men arrested who faced various charges of assault and disorderly conduct, the Times reported that Trump “was discharged.”

We checked other reports of the riot to find more information — and found some discrepancies. A May 31, 1927, Brooklyn Daily Eagle article named six prisoners and all but one, bystander Ralph Losee, were called “avowed Klansmen” by the police. But this article did not mention Trump’s name.

According to the Daily Star, Trump was “dismissed on a charge of refusing to disperse from a parade when ordered to do so.”

This was the May 30, 1927, Memorial Day parade in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., which was joined in by the Ku Klux Klan, which obtained permission to be there from om the Grand Army of the Republic. (the Union Civil War veterans association. This was 62 years after the end of the war, like 2007 for World War II. There had been this ideas of reconciliation between soldiers on both sides since 1911. So who was there, and why, is not clear.)

His father used the new family name to build a real estate empire of low-rent projects, but Negroes, Catholics and Jews were excluded.

On the contrary, he favored Jews, perhaps because of his semi-hidden German background. In one place he would rent only to “executives” and Jews. They did avoid “colored people.”

The Donald himself continued this practice until the Trump organization was sued by the DOJ for violating the Fair Housing Act and fined $1 million. He signed a no lo contendere agreement and promised not to do it again. Yeah, right.

He avoided middle income housing altogether after that (for himself)

He had African-American workers removed from the floor when he visited his casinos, all of which went bankrupt.

I think that was when certain Mafia people who gambled visited the casinos.

Trump prefers to hire immigrants, mostly from Nordic Eastern Europe, on H-2B visas to work his properties.

I thougjht they were mostly from low income countries.

That’s how he imported his third wife, who violated her work visa, which is another thing no one seems to care about.

Toward the end of the campaign so,ebody leaked pictuires and tried to say she did, but apparently she didn’t. Now he was not anti-immigrant until he decided after 2012 to go after the Republican presential nomination.

And he obviously is not beyond hiring illegal immigrants, as his management staff has not only hired them but given them false documentation.

He hired (indirectly) Polish workers to build Trump ZTower nefore it was illegal for employers to do so – in later times his managers have looked the other way – they may not legally have much of achoice. sometimes maybe they steered them to people who could supply documents. sincehe becae president anyone out of status is mostly let go, or let go by a new sub contractor.

And so many other wonderful things about Mr. Trump the President but the wonder overwhelms me and I can’t go on.”

I notice you didn’t mention judges. And you do have progress on a lot of those but choosing to run poor candidates like McCain and Romney for the sake of ‘righteousness’ has very terrible consequences in the fact that enemies and grifters have eight years to end up in powerful and entrenched positions when you finally start to fight back.
