  1. I have a ton of sweet yellow peaches headed to their new home in pies and cobbler.

In perusing headlines, it appears that there is a solid wish among mainstream outlets that the parade in DC fails. Bigly. I hope Americans that make the trip there because they want to celebrate America and all she represents, have a wonderful time. And I hope it is all about America. Only.

  3. Happy July 4th!

”My fellow Americans, it falls to us to keep faith with them and all the great Americans of our past. Believe me, if there’s one impression I carry with me after the privilege of holding for 5 and one half years the office held by Adams and Jefferson and Lincoln, it is this: that the things that unite us – America’s past of which we’re so proud, our hopes and aspirations for the future of the world and this much-loved country – these things far outweigh what little divides us. And so tonight we reaffirm that Jew and gentile, we are one nation under God; that black and white, we are one nation indivisible; that Republican and Democrat, we are all Americans. Tonight, with heart and hand, through whatever trial and travail, we pledge ourselves to each other and to the cause of human freedom, the cause that has given light to this land and hope to the world.”

    —- President Ronald Reagan, July 4, 1986

America’s media is the biggest threat to the USA that exists… bigger than China, bigger than Russia. This has been the case for a long time.

  6. [America’s] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace. This has been her Declaration: this has been, as far as her necessary intercourse with the rest of mankind would permit, her practice.

  7. The last few years on this day after BBQ we all get together and everybody reads a paragraph or two of the Decleration of Independence
I’ve noticed over these years how it has different meanings to some.
    Bless this Nation.

  8. “As apt and applicable as the Declaration of Independence is today, we would do well to honor that other historic document drafted in this hall– the Constitution of the United States. For it stressed not independence but interdependence– not the individual liberty of one but the indivisible liberty of all.”

    — President John F. Kennedy, July 4, 1962, Independence Hall, Philadelphia, PA.

  10. I am surprised that the Declaration hasn’t been attacked by the Democrats for being a radical white supremacist document written by slave-owners and God-botherers.

  14. Where did you get the image with the backward flags? Is there a message there? An historical precedent?

    Chas C-Q (dcc69e)

  15. Dear Lawrence Tribe,
Flashback to April 19,1993 when Hillary and co-President Bill Clinton were in the White House and US TANKS WERE USED AGAINST THOSE AT WACO and ended with the entire complex burning down.
75 people were killed, including 25 children.

  16. I would also like to know where Dana got the image, because I am likewise curious about its antecedents, but my guesses in no particular order are that the artist who was commissioned to make it was either a Commie or a very big ignoramus, not that the one precludes the other, who slipped it by a proofreader of similar persuasion or intellect.

  17. Oh good grief, dont’ read anything into it. It’s just vintage flag clipart, no more, no less. I can delete if it’s that troubling.

  18. New old flag up for concerned readers.

  19. Not troubling at all to me, Dana. I didn’t even notice till Chas C-Q pointed it out. Just curious.

  20. This, from Jim Acosta:

It appears most of the folks down on the National Mall won’t be able to get very close to the tanks and military vehicles down by the Lincoln Memorial. That area is behind a lot of fencing and security (accessible to VIP’s and other ticketed guests).

Well, thank God for that. Laurence Tribe can rest easy now and enjoy his 4th.

    Dana (bb0678)

  21. Well, after comparing Trump to ChiComs, and least he didn’t call him Hitler. Cause that would be crazy. Oh wait ” A Harvard Law School professor has taken down a tweet in which he compared President Trump and Adolf Hitler while insisting he wasn’t comparing Mr. Trump and the Nazi Leader”

That was May 14, 2019. Only 6 weeks from Hitler to a Chinese Communist – per Mr. tribe

    rcocean (1a839e)

  22. @20. The Chinese and Russians learned something- unlike Tiananmen Square and Red Square, tanks don’t operate well on the thoroughfares of Washington, D.C.

  24. #15 — An apt reminder. The willingness of Democrats to justify the siege at Waco is even more remarkable than the memory loss. As I recall, the government could have nabbed Koresh on his regular trips to town, but chose a more dramatic option. I also remember Janet Reno saying that the siege was imperative because of the vulnerable children inside the compound!

  26. 15. 24. That’s not the half of it. Bill Clinton murdered the Branch Davidians at Waco in avery sneaky way in order to protect hsi associate Jay William Buford, head of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Frearms and one of the leaders of the raid, who had tocuhed up the Waco search warrant wiith sex abuse allegations, and had murdered 3 of his own men probably for the purpose of making David Koresh look bad and justifying the raid. Clinton used corrupt people near the top of the FBI – the ones who had created trumped up ethics charges against the FBI Diretor, whom he fired, three months to the day after the fire, when he refsed to resign.

This reverence they try to promote for themselves by waving the First Amendment is nothing more than another lie they sell. They are not ministers of truth. They are hack scribblers making a buck any way they can while promoting their social and political agendas.

  34. Although with the electronic age, the scribblers are now mouthed by actors.

    nk (dbc370)

  35. 28… A free press must depend on a general consensus that they are working in the public interest. If you – Leviticus – were the lawyer representing (for example) the NYT and CNN in the Covington Kids case, how confident would you feel about defending the honor, good faith, even-handedness and integrity of the media before a jury?

The media is pretty far effing away from plying their trade in good faith and in the public interest. They promote disharmony and lies.
