Hillary and Chelsea Go Hollywood!

Filed under: General — Dana @ 3:54 pm

[guest post by Dana]

I thought this would be a suitable follow-up to JVW’s amusing all-time awesome troll job post. Because, as he asks at the end of his post, I too was compelled to ask: This is a parody, right?

Nope, it’s true:

Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea are forming a production company to pursue film and television projects, making a foray into Hollywood after decades in the public eye…

The family hopes to use film and television to influence culture and society now that Hillary Clinton is out of politics. They plan to focus on stories by and about women. The production company is one of many potential business opportunities that Hillary Clinton, 71, is considering.

Looks like the Lifetime channel may have some stiff competition in the near future.

Hollywood: They’ll Pay You a Thousand Dollars for a Kiss, and Fifty Cents for Your Soul. Yep, sounds like a pretty good fit for the Clintons.

Anyway, I also saw this, and given it’s a little bit too on the nose, thought for sure it was a parody.

Wrong again:

  1. Well, given that her fan base and financial backers were Hollywood folk, this makes sense. I wonder if their debut movie will focus on a grandmother who worked behind the scenes for a scoundrel, literally giving up her life for him while waiting for her turn in the spotlight, only to have it snatched away by an uncouth, bumbling oaf who has no clue about much of anything… It would be so fitting.

Big difference being backed for glamour go-to photo ops and then becoming a competitor chasing financing your backers are after as well. Worked in Tinseltown; the town will chew ’em up and spit ’em out PDQ. Ask Weinstein, Spacey… Demi Moore… or Kevin Kline. Wai ’til they start trying to raise production capital and discover how much comes is backdoored in from overseas.

It’s one thing to dine out w/t powers that be for photo ops; another to pound the pavements and compete w/them for financing to produce products that you then have to convince consumers to spend time and money on to sample. When’s the last time you got a refund for a ticket to a movie you saw that turned out to be a stinker?

    Lambs to the slaughter.

Her movies with Chelsea are going to be unbearable. She is by now putting people to sleep with her endless kvetch about losing to Trump. It’s a sign from G-d that you have too much money when you make a production deal with these two extremely boring personas.

  21. Off-topic: This tariff thing is out of hand.
U.S. will slap 5% tariff on Mexican imports over migrant problem, Trump says

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/trump-prepares-to-threaten-mexico-with-new-tariffs-in-attempt-to-force-migrant-crackdown/2019/05/30/0f05f01e-8314-11e9-bce7-40b4105f7ca0_story.html

President Trump on Thursday said he would impose a 5 percent tariff on all goods entering from Mexico unless it stopped the flow of illegal immigration to the United States, a dramatic escalation of his border threats that could have sweeping implications for both economies.

The White House plans to begin levying the import penalties on June 10 and ratchet the penalties higher if the migrant flow isn’t halted. Trump said he would remove the tariffs only if all illegal migration across the border ceased, though other White House officials said they would be looking only for Mexico to take major action.

After the 5 percent tariffs are imposed on June 10, the White House said it would increase the penalties to 10 percent on July 1 and then an additional 5 percent on the first day of each month for three months. The tariffs would stay at 25 percent “until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory,” a statement by the president said.

The economic consequences of Trump’s new plan could be swift and severe. Tariffs are paid by companies that import products, so U.S. firms would pay the import penalties and then likely pass some costs along to consumers. Mexico exported $346.5 billion in goods to the United States last year, from vehicles to fruits and vegetables. And many manufactured items cross the border several times as they are being assembled.

Give a man a hammer and everything looks like a nail. There are points to temporary tariffs in a trade spat, but using them recklessly like Trump is doing seems an act of desperation. I can see the two parties in Congress stripping Trump of these tariff powers and overriding a veto if this goes on.

    Kevin M (21ca15)

  22. #22 — They should strip Trump of tariff powers, but they won’t. There are not Republicans votes to overide this kind of Trump veto.

That said, if Trump had done this early in his administration (before he had negotiated trade deals in alleged good faith), this might have been a good move, and prompted Mexico to do somethng. But Trump, thick headed as alaways, hadn’t figured out that it wasn’t Mexico shipping people over, but Central America, and so probably didn’t realize Mexico could actually take some steps about it.

My guess — Trump will find some way to back down, once he gets bored. No collusion! I’m exonerated. Why can’t my chef cook me a decent Big Mac?

I could speculate about Hillary and Chelsea movies, but they all turn into scripts about how a heroic woman saved America from Russian spies, and then they went and stole the election from her. I think I prefer the dark comedy version of the script we’ve been seeing since November 2016. And I really hate this movie.

  31. “Give a man a hammer and everything looks like a nail.”

Given the massive and unprecedented judicial and extrajudicial interference with the rest of his normal executive toolkit, Trump is more of a ‘you take away everything but my hammer and I will hammer everything in sight until you give them back’ type.

‘There are points to temporary tariffs in a trade spat, but using them recklessly like Trump is doing seems an act of desperation.’

But this isn’t a “trade spat,” it’s a massive failure by Mexico to meet basic responsibilities on Central American refugees. (Though I suppose those shilling for the Party of Slavery do see these people as just extra ‘human resources’ on the trade balance sheet and therefore included in the trade deal. My mistake.)

“I can see the two parties in Congress stripping Trump of these tariff powers and overriding a veto if this goes on.”

I can also see Trump burning down Congress with both parties in it to raucous applause if they try something like that. This faith in errand boys doing anything but what the most powerful grocery clerks tell them is surprisingly strong in the NeverTrump contingent, but a lot of them are inheritors of the neocon LET’S YOU AND HIM FIGHT FOR MY OWN BENEFIT philosophy.

“POS couldn’t give two hoots about illegal immigration. Otherwise he and his rich jerkoff buddies would not have been hiring so many over the last half century. He just wants to keep his mouthbreathers riled up over it.”

Whatever, great Ann Coulter superfan, all the moneymen, expertise, and lobbying orgs are on the side of their cheap labor, and Trump’s actions since taking office have been near-constant pushback against their manifestly corrupt and paid-off government operatives in the judicial and legislative branch. None of the people complaining about his immigration enforcement have advanced realistice alternatives…or more importantly, people with a clear record of being capable of effecting those realistic alternatives.

Teddy Roosevelt got his place on Rushmore for a reason.

Teddy Roosevelt got his place on Rushmore for a reason.

It was to stop the Ku Klux Klan from building gigantic faces Confederate leaders carved into the mountain in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

The chief architect and sculptor, who was a member of the Ku Klan Klan 9but on;y for the money, he had named his son Lincoln and earlier made statues of Union Civil War generals) got hired away, first to work on two separate projects in Texas, and then to build Mount Rushmore. I think he manufactured his disputes with the people in Georgia, becaus he and the people who hired him away didn’t want the KKK murdering anyone. They didn’t want anyone going after the people in Texas.

At Mount Rushmore, Theodore Roosevelt is not there in addition to Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln, but Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln are there to dress up this monument to Theodore Roosevelt.

It’s in South Dakota because Theodore Roosevelt used to take trip there to he Black Hills in the 1880s and so.

But the whole project wss probably undertaken to prevent the building f=of Stone Mountain Georgia.

All of the architect’s work on Stone Mountain before 1925 got destroyed and the project was abandoned in 1928 only to be revived in the 1960s.

  33. I would say Trump is triangulating. The other party to this war is Congress. Both sides. Maybe Mexico can make them come to the table.

  34. It’s in South Dakota because Theodore Roosevelt used to take trip there to he Black Hills in the 1880s and so.

IIRC from the excellent biography set by Edmund Morris, Teddy not only took trips there but moved to a ranch in ND as an escape after his young wife and his mother died on the same day. I think he was even a volunteer peace officer.
