French Officials: Strasbourg Shooting Was Terrorism

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:43 am

Had this happened in the U.S. under Obama, officials would probably still be calling the motive a mystery:

The shooting at a crowded street market in Strasbourg, France, was an act of terrorism, officials said Wednesday, as the police continued an intensive search for the gunman who killed at least two people and wounded 12 others.

Rémy Heitz, the Paris prosecutor, who handles terrorism investigations nationwide, said at a news conference in Strasbourg on Wednesday that witnesses had heard the attacker yell “Allahu akbar,” or “God is great” in Arabic, and that the targets and the suspect’s profile justified the opening of a terrorism investigation.

Officials said the man suspected of carrying out the shooting had a criminal record and had served time in prison. More than 700 members of the security forces are now searching for the suspect in Strasbourg, the French interior minister said.

. . . .

The shooting recalled other attacks in recent years by Islamist extremists in France, Belgium and other parts of Europe. Benjamin Griveaux, the French government spokesman, said after a cabinet meeting in Paris on Wednesday that President Emmanuel Macron had warned that “the terrorist threat is still at the heart of our nation’s life.”

I can’t see how the wave of unchecked immigration of Muslims into Europe has had any effect, can you?

the sleazy corrupt incompetent men and women of the FBI seem to have a particularly difficult time understanding when a terrorist attack has occurred, but people forget that when these attacks happen the FBI’s number one first priority is to escort the terrorist’s husband or wife to the airport

  2. It always cracks me up how liberals try to hang A Handmaid’s Tale on a future under Trump/Christians when the Islamic World is the reality of a War on Women. Imagine liberals marching in red cloaks and handmaiden bonnets through Dearborn during Ramadan. Not a chance, they’d be stoned.

The conundrum that always strikes me is how to you balance Freedom Of Religion with a religion dedicated to murdering the infidel who refuses to submit?

  3. The Quakers asked the Puritans the same thing, and the Puritans had the most vocal ones put on carts and whipped from town across New England until they died.

    No they wouldn’t.

Don’t you see? This is just a ploy to revive the Hashashim.

  8. Well, they’ll stone you when you’re trying to be so good
They’ll stone you just like they said they would
They’ll stone you when you’re trying to go home
And they’ll stone you when you’re there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
    Everybody must get stoned

Prophetic. Like they say in your country, read the whole thing.

There’s more than one instance of Rastafaris in Jamaica going on machete rampages high on ganja. Chester Himes wrote a story, too, about a murder brought about by the dissociative state brought on from smoking marijuana.

The article you linked says the suspect was born in Strasbourg…he may well be the indirect by-product of colonialism, rather than “unchecked immigration”.

    Dave (1bb933)

  12. 12 – your own link admits the Muslims threw stones and trash.

It also says they were ‘provoked’ into doing so. Though not by anyone throwing anything at them or similar violence.

I said that a group of liberals dressed as Handmaids would provoke same. I guess you could argue they’d give them the Rotherham treatment instead…..if they were young enough.

  15. Cherif Chekatt was born in Strasbourg, therefore a French citizen. Like with a majority of militant Islamists in domestic terrorist attacks, they’re homegrown and mostly radicalized at home. In this case, he was mostly radicalized in the French prison system. He was also a “known wolf” and France have let a lot of them get through the cracks.

That’ll teach him not to lowball hookers, and then demand a refund on top of it.

Wanna bet that they didn’t get him to plead guilty by threatening to go after his wife, too, for tax evasion because she also signed the tax returns?
