More Explosive Devices: Clintons, Obamas, and Maybe CNN
Dana already blogged about the explosive device at George Soros’s home. Now there are reports of explosive devices having been sent to Bill and Hillary Clinton and to Barack Obama.
The Secret Service said Wednesday that it had intercepted packages containing “potential explosive devices” addressed to former secretary of state Hillary Clinton in New York and former president Barack Obama in Washington.
The devices were recovered not long after an explosive device was found in a mailbox at the Bedford, N.Y., home of George Soros, the liberal philanthropist who is a frequent target of criticism from far-right groups.
“The packages were immediately identified during routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices and were appropriately handled as such,” the Secret Service said in a statement Wednesday. “The protectees did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them.”
The Secret Service said the package addressed to the Chappaqua, N.Y., home of Clinton and former president Bill Clinton was recovered late Tuesday. The package sent to Obama’s Washington home was intercepted early Wednesday, authorities said.
Meanwhile, as I type this post, CNN’s offices in New York are being evacuated:

The evacuation is taking place because of reports of a suspicious device.
What does it all mean? Nobody knows, of course — but that won’t stop lefties from blaming Trump’s rhetoric, or Trumpists from crying “false flag!”
It does raise a question in my mind, though. If you applauded the body-slamming of a Guardian reporter by a Republican congressional candidate, and if you laughed when Donald Trump celebrated that, do you approve of all this too? No? Then where do you draw the line? Body-slamming is OK but explosive devices are not?
Related issue: is the central question here the behavior of Bill or Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama, or CNN? Or is the central question the behavior of the person behind the sending or planting of these explosive devices?
I mean these questions to be rhetorical, but treat them as regular questions if you like.

If correct, then to me the likeliest inference from this fact — combined with the lack of any explanatory or credit-claiming message so far — is therefore that all this is the work of a single attacker operating out of distorted motivations.
It should also be noted that multiple Republican officials, including Tim Scott and Mike Pence, have immediately and strongly condemned these actions.

Molinari, who has said he didn’t vote for Trump but didn’t say this in the debate last night and also refused to answer Cuomo as to whether or not he supported Trump, retorted in the debate that Trump had attended Andrew Cuomo’s bachelor party, which is the only new “fact” I learned in thd debate. Cuomo responded eventually that he didn’t support Trump politically. (The New York Daily News said that Trump didn’t actually attend Andrew Cuomo’s bachelor party but sent a video recording instead, but Cuomo didn’t clarify things that way. Maybe that looks even worse.
Molinari accused Cuomo of being corrupt because of all the people who worked for him making calls from his office phone (!) who had been indicted and convicted but Cuomo argued that Molinari was corrupt because his wife had taken a job at a campaign contributor so that money went into his own pocket – it actually wasn’t so clear to me what relative Cuomo was saying.

Not only can they not spell, printers actually print Machine Identification Code, i.e. microdots, which you can track back through the supply chain, and if he/she registered it, this is a matter of a couple hours worth of detectiving, detecting, the act of being a detective. Almost all consumer color lasers have it, most black and white lasers have it, and color inkjets have it.
I highly doubt that this person is smart enough to replace the firmware with a hacked version that removes it.

You see, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault, and paid his fine and did his community service per the court’s sentence for his crime. But if the factual scenario you describe were true, I would very, very much have expected him, through his lawyer, to have fought the charge on ground that his use of force was legally justified — which is essentially what you are arguing.
And he didn’t; he instead pleaded guilty. He couldn’t appeal his guilty plea now; that’s over and done. And if the parties hadn’t reached an amicable settlement of the potential civil claims, the doctrine of collateral estoppel would have absolutely barred Gianforte from even trying to assert legal justification as a defense in the civil case, since he didn’t in the criminal case. He’d have had no defense to civil liability and the plaintiff would have been entitled to a summary judgment on that, with the jury’s only remaining role to assess damages.
But maybe you’re smarter than them, in which case, I’d be grateful if you would share your knowledge. Thanks in advance.

It’s a very detailed referral letter, with footnotes and attachments. On page 2 of the referral letter, Grassley asserts:
Footnote 9 in turn reads:
The “enclosed below” materials do indeed include an email trail between Avenatti and a Committee investigator on September 25. But the email chain doesn’t demonstrate that it ever included, as an attachment, Resnick’s sworn statement, nor does Avenatti reference such a statement in the text of his emails.
In other words, the attachment doesn’t quite do what the footnote promises it would do — that is, demonstrate that “Avenatti submitted [the] sworn statement to the Committee.” And the referral letter says the Committee didn’t receive the statement until September 26, without accounting for that delay. So, what, did it show up in the mail? Was it hand delivered? This looks to me like an attempted comb-over of a glaring bald spot: Received from whom, and how?
Note well: Because it was made to comply with 18 U.S.C. § 1746 and included its magic language about “under penalty of perjury,” the [technically unsworn but as good as sworn] statement has “like force and effect” as if it had been sworn to before a notary or court clerk or other official authorized to administer oaths. This potentially puts Swetnick on the hook for plain old perjury under 18 U.S.C. § 1621(2). But that doesn’t put Avenatti in jeopardy for perjury himself. At most he might have some jeopardy under 18 U.S.C. § 1622 for suborning (encouraging) perjury, which is a much harder thing to prove (Avenatti being able to claim that he was taken in by her lies, rather than their author).
But for either of them to have jeopardy for false statement under 18 U.S.C. § 1001, the statement has to have come from one or both of them into the Committee’s hands, as I read that statute.

Most of the referral letter is, of course, directed to the truth or falsity of Swetnick’s claims, as are most of the attachments (comprising letters from the various boyfriends Swetnick’s managed to terrify over the years), and it’s all a fun read on that topic.

They had identical clocks inside apparently attached to no fuse. Besides which why would you use a timer on a pipe bomb sent through the mail The bomber could have no idea when the package would arrive. A mail bomb should be expected to be triggered by opening or starting to open, the package.
There were at least 4 spelling or typing errors:
1. John Brennan’s last name. (spelled BRENAN)
2. Debbie Wasserman’s Schultz’s last name, (Spelled SHULZ)
3. Florida mistyped FLORIDS – the bomber must have been really careless or in a rush not to catch that, or he ran out of paper.
4. Sawgrass Parkway (spelled SAW GRASS, as two words.)

The 10th package, discovered Thursday was actually delivereed Tuesday. A security person for Robert Di Nero was watching late night/early morning TV news at home and saw a picture of the CNN bomb for the first time and recognized that they had gotten a similar package. He called it in at 5 am.
First to broadcast about it was radio station WOR 710 AM where a news employee passed by police on his way to work. WOR had the exclusive for about half an hour.
There was also a mild false alarm (no evacuation ) at CNN yesterday. Just your ordinary run-of-the-mill suspicious package.

Besides fingerprints, DNA (perpetrator’s or familial) and looking for where the envelopes and the clocks and other things could have been bought there are at least 21st century ways they could ahev used to try to find the perpetrator:
1> These days most people carry cell phones that are active. The cell phone companies keep arecord log of what cell phone towers they pass. It’s not usually used for anything except sometimes locally targeted ads.
If the packages were mailed from more than one location – if they were mailed that is, it would be possible (although very unusual) to try to get the numbers of all cell phones that were in the vicinity at the same time – and if there is a match between two or more locations, look at who paid for the phone.
2> If the person did Google searches, either at his own computer or while logged into Google or Gmail (and a person may be more or less permanently logged in) look for someone who did address and.or name searches for all or most of the names of people who appear in this. Who looked for both Debbie Wasserman Schultz and zrobert DiNero – and maybe others who don’t usually belong together.

In the case of CNN, yes it was delivered by courier, but what hapepns is that many big companies, to accelerate delivery, arrange to ahve their mail held and picked up at the Post Office.
I had a theory that the packages were not mailed but inserted into the mail stream by someone who worked in post office mail soreting facility. We’ll see what they say.
Before this person was arfrested, they had zeroed in on mail facility in Florida.
