Kavanaugh Classmate: I Did Not Attend the Party Christine Ford Says I Attended

Filed under: Uncategorized — Patterico @ 8:25 am

The story seems to be falling apart:

In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, another former classmate of Brett Kavanaugh’s denies attending a party like the one described in the allegation made by Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused the Supreme Court nominee of sexually assaulting her three decades ago when they were teenagers.

. . . .

“I understand that I have been identified by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as the person she remembers as ‘PJ’ who supposedly was present at the party she described in her statements to the Washington Post,” Smyth says in his statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee. “I am issuing this statement today to make it clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh.”

Hmmm.

  1. This situation is a ‘no win’.

Not for K and not for the woman.

The outcome will please some, but not others.

After 30+ years, how can any investigation–as the lady and the Liberals demand– b carried out?

Who was present, what was the date, who can vouch for her, who can vouch for him?

I also wonder where is the same vigor that the Liberals evince for ‘justice’ when one thinks of Keith Ellison and the claims made by the woman against him, that he beat her more than once? Claims that r backed by hospital reports, r so recent, have witnesses who vouch for her story?

Where is the clamor to have Keith bow out?

As a point of levity, for me, has Hillary saying Mrs. Ford should b believed. How ballsy of Hillary. These situations r the type that should b kryptonite for her; she should not go near any sexual abuse situations considering her husband’s multiple abuses.

If Republicans fold on this, it will mean that any, any claim by the other side will b enough to veto a proposed candidate, no matter how venial the allegation.

This episode is sooo old, and just cannot b corroborated truthfully that it should b filed under ‘WHY DID U WAIT OVER 30 YEARS?’

  2. Well said, Amon-Ra.

I think I can answer one of your questions; how to square the Kavenaugh case with the standards apparent on Bill Clinton, Keith Ellison, Joe Biden, etc, etc, etc.

There is a consistent standard here. When the accusations are against a Republican, even the flimsiest claim Must Be Believed. When the accusations are against a Democrat, they must not be believed.

    *******

I liked Patterico’s post as well. The only thing I’d like to add is that not only is it unknown when the party was and who was there, it is unknown where it was, other than somewhere in the region.

I’m intrigued by the demand that the FBI investigate this. The FBI only investigates federal crimes, and even if this incident occurred it wasn’t one, so is it even possible for the FBI to investigate? I suspect not, and I further suspect that’s quite intentional.
