The Jury Talks Back

The “Off the Record” Trump Comments About Canada to Bloomberg: A Twitter Play in Three Acts

Act 1:

Act 2:

Act 3:

You can’t go wrong counting on the dishonesty of Donald Trump.

  1. Trump is beyond parody. SNL would be laughed at for skits like this, and this is probably mild compared to the insanity that happens daily at the White House.

  2. I don’t even want to read the main website or Trump-friendly websites, since I bet they are smearing the author for not “revealing” his source.

Journalists have no ethics! But Presidents don’t need to have ethics.

  3. If the leak was authorized by Trump, wouldn’t the reporters call him out on making false claims?

I note that Danial Dale limited his defense explicitly to the Bloomberg interviewers. Would not any member of the press and their crew in the room be bound by an off the record agreement? It’d be useful to know who else was in the room.

I do think that Trump probably wanted this to leak, because if not, he’s an utter moron for trusting the press with “off the record” stuff.

The question is, did Trump arrange the leak and then smear Bloomberg, or did he merely know it’d leak if salacious enough and there were others in the room?

  4. If Trump leaked “off the record,” then the reporters can’t divulge what he says. Trump knows the rules the media lives by and he knows how to play them, too. For instance, he knows people like to “hear things” anonymously instead of officially.
