Restaurant Asks Sarah Sanders to Leave on Account of the Trumpiness

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:45 pm

Ridiculous:

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said she was told to leave a Virginia restaurant because she works for President Donald Trump.

Sanders wrote on Twitter on Saturday that the owner of Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, asked her to leave because of who she works for.

“Her actions say far more about her than about me,” Sanders tweeted. “I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

A restaurant should have the right to serve, or not serve, anyone they like. Patrons should have the right to decide that they won’t eat at establishments that refuse service to someone because of their political beliefs.

A man who says he was Sanders’ waiter at the farm-to-table restaurant wrote on Facebook that he only served her for a couple minutes before the owner “asked her to leave and she complied.”

“Her family left on their own accord, we didn’t actually refuse service or ‘kick her out,'” he wrote in the Facebook post.

Of course the restaurant kicked her out. If she’s asked to leave and refuses, she’s trespassing. Don’t pretend management didn’t kick her out. They absolutely did.

Another step towards the politicization of literally everything.

Another mess for Pruitt: Overstaying his White House welcome at lunch. Too many visits for lunch at the Mess earned a rebuke from the White House.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt loves eating at the White House mess, an exclusive U.S. Navy-run restaurant open only to White House officials, Cabinet members and other dignitaries. But apparently he liked it too much, and the White House asked him to please eat elsewhere sometimes. -source, politico.com

  6. I wonder if they called her Suckabee Sanders when they 86d her.
Lefty social media continue to compare the treatment of Sanders to the gay couple and the CO bakery.

Big difference is the bakery serves gay people every day and sells them anything that’s prepared and ready and will personalize any cake for birthdays etc.

What they declined to do was decorate a cake to signify gay marriage. They also decline to decorate Halloween themed cakes.

The Red Hen refused all service to Sanders and told her to leave the premises. Big difference.

IMO this is closer to the Biden Campaign being turned down on their last minute request for a ‘campaign stop/photo op’ at a VA bakery. The Bakery owner said he decided not to host the event because he was still upset with President Obama telling business owners ‘you didn’t build that’.

Still, it’s a long way from declining an official campaign stop for a party you disagree with and kicking out a private party cause you hate who they work for.

Regardless, 90% of the libs I’ve seen are rejoicing this refusal of service.

    harkin (e5c973)

  7. The restaurant should have the right to serve or not serve anyone they choose. That said in America the only people who are legally refused service are conservatives because brain dead radical leftists call them fascists or KKK or Nazi’s when in fact it is they who practice Nazism, bigotry and prejudice. The projection is hilarious just look at what comes around’s (Hello, Perry) stupid bigoted remarks. These “compassionate” people are the most narrow minded idiots I’ve ever seen.

The good news is when stupid radical left pigs do this they let normal Americans know where NOT to spend their money. Nothing says “stooopid” more than refusing to take your opponents money. The left politicizes everything. Even a person having a meal with their family.

  8. Twitter being like Heraclitus’s river, I can’t find the post now. But I did see a Tweet thread this afternoon which claimed (supposedly an interview with the restaurant boss) that the wait staff has several migrants and gays on its staff who “felt uncomfortable” serving SHS, and said so to the manager, who then asked SHS to leave.

Also a tweet saying Red Hen, the national company, issued a statement that essentially said this was a local decision and nothing to do with them.

  13. But of course if she were celebrating a gay wedding reception, the restaurant would be forced to cater the reception.

I’ve been denied entry into a lot of places precisely because I’m Caucasian. It’s called Asia. They don’t have to serve you. Which led to a lot of interesting interactions. Mostly I just headed down the road because unlike the Jim Crow south there was no law against serving me. So there was a bar or karaoke place just a few steps over in Shibuya that was willing to serve “my kind.”

I am ex-military/Navy and I don’t have any pictures of me from that era. Because I never thought that highly of myself. I don’t even maintain an “I love me wall” filled with plaques and pronouncements of just how amazing I am even though I have boxes full of them.

The whole point to this “Ode to Myself” is that back then I had a lot of things going for me. Including my pecs. I actually overheard one of the female petty officers who worked for me saying my chest was the most perfect thing she ever saw.

Apparently she had lots of sympathizers in the local community because on several occasions after having been barred entry and as I turned to leave female patrons would rush to the door, grab me by the hand, and bring me inside. So what is mama-san gonna do? She caves.

A couple of times the girl would thrust my right hand between her thighs and start pouring me Suntory whiskey. And I’m thinking, right hand firmly scissor locked between her legs and free hand wrapped around shot glass, that if there is a heaven it can only be a few steps away.

Discrimination ain’t all that bad. It’s bad when required by law. See Jim Crow laws for further detail. When discrimination is optional I can prosper. Just ask the Japanese girls.

  32. Someone on another network pointed out that the Red Hen keeps their grits around for seven days. Do you guys know about the theory that ergot caused mass hysteria in times past?

Some anthropologists theorize that the murderous mania of the Salem Witch Trials wasn’t caused by religious panic or hectic politics. They blame ergot, a grain fungus that causes paranoia, hallucinations and convulsions—the same symptoms that were thought to be caused by “bewitchment.”

Historic gastronomist Sarah Lohman recently spoke about this in her lecture series Masters of Social Gastronomy. She paired up with Jonathan Soma to connect food to the times and places of our past, whether it’s cuisine from the Colonial era or the chop suey of early Chinese immigrants to the US. At Brooklyn’s Littlefield, Lohman and Soma talked about monster myths and culinary culture, ergotism and its possible role in the Salem Witch Trials.

We caught up with Lohman to assuage our own paranoia about the possibilities of a modern-day outbreak of a foodborne epidemic that could bring on the zombie apocalypse.

In 1676, children living in an orphanage school in Hoorn, Holland suddenly started behaving like dogs. They were barking and crawling on the floor.

According to theologian Balthasar Bekker (1634-1698) who personally witnessed the unexplained behavior, the children would suddenly collapse and get a strange look in their eyes. “They tugged and tore themselves, striking at the ground with their legs and arms end even with their heads, crying yelling and barking like dogs so that it was a terrifying thing to see,” he wrote.

The children’s behavior was explained as possession by the devil. People prayed in the churches across the city to save the children form the devil’s clutches. Finally the children were re-united with their families and everything went back to normal.

“Sarah, I know you don’t care even a tiny little bit about the ethics rules, but using your official account for this is a clear violation of 5 CFR 2635.702(a),” Shaub tweeted Saturday, referencing the law that states government employees cannot use public office for private gain.

“It’s the same as if an ATF agent pulled out his badge when a restaurant tried to throw him/her out,” he added.

  95. @ Paul Montagu, re your #78:

A high school friend of mine from my very small hometown on the prairies of west Texas won the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 1972. (He was listed as being from Lubbock, because that’s his sponsoring newspaper was the improbably named Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, but he was actually from Lamesa.) His winning word for the championship was “macerate.”

We were all astonished, of course, and practically the whole town shut down the next morning to watch as he was hosted by Joe Garagiola on NBC’s Today Show. Garagiola put him to the test on live TV by demanding that he spell some moderately complicated word, which my friend did.

When he got home, though, he confessed — or actually, volunteered, because he was still a bit huffy about it — that the Today Show producers had actually given him, in advance, the word he’d be asked to spell live on the air. (I told him, “You shoulda said back to them, ‘Thanks, but how many national spelling bee championships have you won?”)

I certainly never had any faith in the integrity of NBC News after that. “News,” “rigged game show,” whatever — to them, it was all the same: ratings & advertisers.

  97. Off-topic, but also a 1970s reminiscence: RIP Koko the Gorilla, who died this week at age 46. Koko allegedly was taught to speak American Sign Language. For her honors thesis subject (with a resulting paper), my then-girlfriend volunteered in the summer of 1978 as an intern working for the scientists who were studying/teaching her. When I drove out to northern California to help her return to Austin for the fall semester, I was briefly introduced to Koko.

I spoke no Ameslan, so I lack credentials to critique Koko’s alleged use thereof; I’m unconvinced that her understanding of human speech was any better than most well adjusted dogs, and if she was signing meaningfully, it was not obvious to me. But I know even less about gorilla behavior than I do about Ameslan, so maybe her witty banter went right over my head.

We did play a game of “Tickle,” however — one of her, and apparently, most primates’ favorite games, it would seem — for about three minutes, after which she lost interest in me. That was okay with me by then: Gorilla tickle games apparently involve a lot more vigor than most human tickle games, and after three minutes, my ribs hurt. The next day, from neck to waist around my entire torso, I looked like I’d been beaten with a ball-peen hammer by a Mafia enforcer: I was literally polka-dotted with vivid purple bruises about an inch apart.

Some people might say that warning others against patronizing establishments that cater to employing The Diseased and Entitled Communities and giving them access to the food of unassuming normals is bigoted, or something. The people who say that may have the brain disease in their head already.

The manager did her a favor. By asking her to leave. The Devil only knows what the “several migrants and gays on [the restaurant’s] staff who “felt uncomfortable” serving SHS” might have done to Sanders’ and her family’s food if they had served them. Am I right?

  101. You are so right, nk. I too would have left, as I have been food poisoned, before, after dismissing the possibility.

I also got food poisoned when I purchased food for a homeless dude who was begging outside a Burger King. The cashier angrily told me not to “buy the guy anything” but I just said “the guy’s hungry -you want my money, or not?” I bought myself a burger, and the guy a large combo, figuring he needed the calories more than I. They must have thought that I would give him the one burger that was on top. I was very sick for three days.

I would have sued them, but I ate all the evidence. Anyway, I was thankful that I was food poisoned and not the poor guy, who prolly could not have survived the hit without the medical care to which I had access.

The rapidity with which the status quo of “open borders” has been overtaken by the “populist crisis” suggests that, like the financial crisis of 2008, a bubble has burst. It went broke gradually then all of a sudden. The globalization and multiculturalism that were supposed to have delivered prosperity and security have not paid off. This failure has started a run on political capital of elites which has yet to stop.

Trump and the European populists are picking up political assets at a bargain. Glenn Reynolds observed that “the press has three main kinds of power. One is to motivate the left. Another is to swing the middle. And the third is to demoralize the right. It’s pretty much lost the last of these, and I suspect the second one is fading too.” That’s tragic for the press.

A status quo that used to be able to buy on the margin has lets its account fall below the minimum level and perhaps for the first time has nothing more it can deposit. The media is shrill in the way a customer whose credit is bad out must shout at the waiter to get service.”

Now, Mike Huckabee has revealed that after Wilkinson asked Sanders to leave THE RUDE HEN Wilkinson took it upon herself to follow Sanders and her party to another restaurant, where she hastily organized a protest group, then harassed and hounded Sanders and her companions.

Mike Huckabee actually acknowledged that his daughter and her husband went home. But they were in a larger party, and he claimed that the restaurant person followed those people to another restaurant.

As Allahpundit points out, this still sounds fishy – creating a scene at a restaurant across the street would be risky, and by all accounts the interactions between Sanders and the Red Hen employees were conducted politely.
