Wonkette Seems Pretty Broken Up About the RedState Firings

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 10:10 pm

A palate cleanser, as Allahpundit likes to say, on a Monday evening as I head to bed. I just ran across this piece at Wonkette that touches on the RedState firings. It’s a surprisingly fair and balanced perspective:

So, I can’t work up any sympathy for those Never Trumpers who got fired from Redstate.com yesterday. You missed your stop and wound up in Trumpland? Too goddamn bad! You hopped on the Hillary Haters Express Bus, and there is no transfer off this line.

Sorry, I am fresh out of fucks to give for people who pushed bullshit about immigrants being dangerous criminals. You think the epidemic of campus sexual assault is PC culture run amok? You don’t need my sympathy — go apply for wingut [sic] welfare.

Same goes for you, Milo!

The “PC culture run amok” link goes to a post by JVW. Thanks a lot, man. If it’s wasn’t for you, I think I could have gotten some respect from these Wonkette people.

  6. This line from the wonkette post was especially dumb:

You could have stayed the party of John McCain. You chose to be the party of Sarah Palin. …

Because if it wasn’t for John McCain, Sarah Palin probably would not be a national figure.

We decided to be the party of Hang-them-all-from-lampposts. After we’re done, we’ll decide what we want to be next.

There’s a great chapter in Jonah Goldberg’s new book on the “eternal struggle” between the philosophies of John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He credits Locke with being an intellectual wellspring for “The Miracle” of the last 300 years of prosperity and liberty which flowered in the American revolution and whose modern stewards are conservatives and libertarians, and Rousseau with the antithetical romanticist philosophy that glorifies the state, collective or tribe over the individual, drove the French Revolution into tyranny and has since been championed by socialists, communists, fascists and modern progressives.

  12. Locke’s Second Treatise on Government (I read it between naps in college, it’s hard going) was the foundation of most Western government since monarchy.

  17. Virginia’s Hampton Roads region continues to export the most amount of coal from the U.S. through its ports. And the numbers continue to soar.

The Virginian-Pilot reported Thursday that the region’s coal exports have jumped 16% this year compared to first-quarter 2017.

Much of what moves through the Port of Virginia is coal from America’s central Appalachia region. It’s hauled in by train before being loaded on to ships. Between 2016 and 2017, coal exports out of Hampton Roads increased by nearly 60%.

    nice work President Trump

  26. Patterico’s posts at Red State. Enjoy them.

And, by the way, check out the last 10 posts or so there and tell me if it’s a fair criticism to say that they represented shrill non-stop 24/7 criticism of Trump.

    They didn’t.

  27. Yeah, the Wonkette who made the ping pong ball remark about a conservative woman blogger was an XY person. I don’t remember the name and I don’t care to look it up.

    Bad form.

Five bucks says she’ll get an attitude correction when the day comes and circumstances swop ends on her. And it will.

  32. DCSCA,

She likes to kick people when they are down. It comes across like the insecure co-workers gossiping around the water cooler. It’s just small. I don’t worry about ‘what goes around comes around’ because people who are small already made themselves miserable. Look at President Trump, for example. He’s bitter, insecure, and suspicious. He has wealth and power and yet he’s not happy and never will be. Raping his wives and sexually assaulting his employees were only symptoms of his internal fears about himself, and his need to prove something with power (like many sexual degenerates). It’s profound and quite interesting to think about.

It won’t be a beer with Hillary, it will be shots. Lots of them.

Are conservatives teetotallers now? Is lawfully drinking alcohol something to be ashamed of? I know Trump can’t handle it, but that doesn’t mean I can’t drink responsibly. Hillary’s problems were possibly brain damage, and certainly poor judgment and experience, but they weren’t that she drinks alcohol. It’s pretty hypocritical for the ‘moron lifestyle’ guys who praise enjoying alcohol to suddenly pretend they are offended by it. But hey, that’s the new GOP.

Any woman married to a guy like Clinton or Trump would need a drink. That’s the least of her problems.

LOL. Despite the faux tone of grievance in the post, I was pretty pleased myself, in a similar way.

I noticed that, too. I’ve read commenters claim otherwise for so long that it surprised me. But then I remembered: FAKE NEWS.

    DRJ (15874d)

  40. Yawn. 5 posts so far on some copublishing blogger inside baseball tea fight. Sheesh. I used to read this blog a lot back in the day. Gone down the drain. Don’t you have something interesting to write about? Nobody cares about who “Redstate” chooses to have on their site. This stuff reads like someone whining about getting blocked from Twitter. Just do your own thing.
