And Yet ANOTHER Moore Accuser (Yes, An Additional One!)

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:00 pm

Yes, Susan Wright just got through posting about a new Roy Moore accuser: Tina Johnson. But there are even more. The #FAKENEWSBEZOSPOST has a story titled Two more women describe unwanted overtures by Roy Moore at Alabama mall.

One of the stories is about a 22-year-old woman who merely says Moore was much older and very persistent and creepy in his unwanted overtures. The other woman is a bit more interesting. Gena Richardson says she was a high school senior when Moore, then 30 years old, engaged in behavior that sounds a lot like the conduct described by Beverly Young Nelson:

Instead, she says she met Moore at the movie theater. She says she can’t remember what they saw, but she remembers clearly what happened after. She says it was cold and Moore offered to drive her to her car, which was more than a football field’s distance away in a parking area behind Sears. She says he parked by her car and began chatting with her, and she says she told him again about her dad.

“I just explained to him that my dad’s a minister, and you know, I just can’t sneak around because that’s wrong,” she recalls. “So I thanked him and started to get out and he grabbed me and pulled me in and that’s when he kissed me.

“It was a man kiss — like really deep tongue. Like very forceful tongue. It was a surprise. I’d never been kissed like that,” she says. “And the minute that happened, I got scared then. I really did. Something came over me that scared me. And so I said, ‘I’ve got to go, because my curfew is now.’ ”

Her first contact with Moore was “just before or after her 18th birthday,” so she was either an adult or close to it. But the interesting bit here is the similarity to Nelson’s story, including the offer to drive the young girl to her car, grabbing her as she started to get out, and frightening her with the forcefulness of his conduct. The Post says her account “was corroborated by classmate and Sears co-worker Kayla McLaughlin.” Another woman who has been secretly planning to derail Roy Moore’s possible future Senate bid for forty years!

I can tell that plenty of people will say “men kiss women at the end of dates so this is a nothingburger.” But those who said the forcefulness of Nelson’s alleged encounter sounded out of character for Moore now have another data point to consider.

Any way you slice it, Moore was clearly a skeevy presence there at the mall. Other women in the story describe Moore as someone everyone looked out for, so they could avoid him. One says “I can remember him walking in and the whole mood would change with us girls,” describing herself as feeling “creeped out.”

Yeah, Moore defenders, it’s all made-up character assassination. You just keep telling yourself that. You have to believe that, so you do.

  1. It’s like you didn’t read the other side’s brief, then went in to argue.

Let us accept that Moore is skeevy. Given that,

-would it be better or worse to elect the Democrat?
-is there an alternative to Moore, and if so, what is it?

I’m all three of the Appellate judges. You’re the lawyer who didn’t read the brief. Answer the questions.

  2. Tangentially related, but I am super fired up about it…that POS Hannity, Tuesday night, closed the show with a forceful challenge to Moore: Provide proof of your innocence in the next 24 hours, or else.

Tonight? He read verbatim a letter from Moore which does not offer a shred of proof regarding everything, excepting a challenge of the yearbook signature. No proof. None. And Hannity responded by saying we need to leave it to the voters of Alabama to decide in the coming days and weeks.

The man takes in roughly $50 MILLION a year as a host. And he takes his audience for fools. He stands for nothing, save his own precious standing/reputation.

  3. By the way, we are all working under the unspoken assumption that the GOP which put forward Moore is grossly incompetent and/or utterly immoral. Right?

Tell me again about how Trump is bringing down this pile of GOP shit? Down to what?

As mah man Hannity said, that’s up to the people of Alabama.

If I lived there, I’d stay home.

I don’t care if Roy Moore wins or loses. As I said in another post: one less GOP senator is one less vote to raise my taxes.

    I just. don’t. care.

my birth (as I have said) is an incident which I accept, like some poor ignorant peasant, only because it has been handed down to me by oral tradition…it will be well to devote this brief chapter to a few of the other facts of my family and environment which I hold equally precariously on mere hearsay evidence. Of course what many call hearsay evidence, or what I call human evidence, might be questioned in theory…The story of my birth might be untrue. I might be the long-lost heir of The Holy Roman Empire, or an infant left by ruffians from Limehouse on a door-step in Kensington, to develop in later life a hideous criminal heredity. Some of the sceptical methods applied to the world’s origin might be applied to my origin, and a grave and earnest enquirer come to the conclusion that I was never born at all. But I prefer to believe that common sense is something that my readers and I have in common; and that they will have patience with a dull summary of the facts…

  13. nk – I do not demand Moore prove a negative. I demand he explain why his 30-something self was well known for hanging out at a mall and approaching high school girls. He has yet to directly contradict this accusation.

I have no difficulty accepting Moore forgetting signing a yearbook 40 years ago. I have a major problem with his presenting himself as a Knight for Christ in his public life when he has a lecherous past without specific denials and/or a sincere atonement now.

If I were utterly innocent, the approach to my defense would be scorched earth. I would make a criminal complaint for false accusations against every last accuser. Blanket denials would be issued across the board. That’s not what we are getting. We are getting poor, poor, pitiful me.

I was very pleased when Moore stuck it to DJT and the GOPe with his primary victory. I love Alabama. My house of worship for years was located there. I am furious that they, and we, are stuck with this mess.

  14. The yearbook appears fake, like they traced his signature off her divorce papers. His assistant’s initials, D.A., being copied was the fatal mistake.

  24. Moore’s attorney also noted that Moore told him he never signed “D.A.” after his signature as he was never a district attorney. He instead was an assistant district attorney. However, Jauregui did say that “D.A.” appears after Moore’s name in a filing in Nelson’s divorce case.

This was due to Moore’s assistant, whose initials were “D.A.,” stamping D.A. after Moore’s name in documents.

The yearbook appears fake, like they traced his signature off her divorce papers. His assistant’s initials, D.A., being copied was the fatal mistake.

There is probably no assistant with the initials DA. That’s crazy,

But there is something else that could have been forged.

    The two lines going:

    “12-22-77 / Olde Hickory House.”

Those last two lines are all printing, or the equivalent of printing, instead of script, and the numeral 7’s there are written differently than the earlier sevens in the full digit year 1977.

So, now if that was added later, that was to place the location of thw signing at the restaurant, which is the only plausible place Roy Moore could have met her more than once.

Further: The picture of the inscription in the yearbook is in black and white.

What? Gloria Allred doesn’t have, or is too cheap to use, a color copier or printer?

I wonder what would become apparent if we saw a color picture of that yearbook inscription. And the rest of the yearbook, too. From what we have, it is not even clear that it’s addressed to her.

Maybe somebody else is the “sweet…beautiful girl.”

    The whole thing goes:

    To a / sweeter more / beautiful girl I / could not say /”Merry Christmas” / Christmas, 1977 / Love,/ Roy Moore, D.A. / 12-22-77 / Olde Hickory House

Maybe Ray Moore is telling the truth that he was not familiar with Ye Olde Hickory House, or at least its name, and this wasn’t signed on December 22, 1977. And I don’t know exactly what that would mean.

a governor….was conducting an affair so he picked the atty general to preclude investigations.

    That’s not exactly what happened.
There was a far flung investigation that went beyond the mere fact of an affair.

What could have happened is that the Governor appointed Luther Strange Senator so as to place in charge Luther Strange’s subordinates, with whom he quickly concluded a plea bargain and resigned as Governor.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/28/us/alabama-senator-strange.html?_r=0

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/10/us/robert-bentley-alabama-governor.html

Ellen Brooks, a special prosecutor, said Mr. Bentley quit in connection with a plea agreement on two misdemeanor charges: failing to file a major contribution report and knowingly converting campaign contributions to personal use. He pleaded guilty Monday afternoon.

I don’t know what authority Strange had to insist on more, but that would be the idea.

  35. With Gena Richardson, again he asked a girl for her phone number, which it is not a given that she is going to have, (unless he thinks she lives away from her mother, alone or with roommates) and she says she refused to give it, which means that she had one. OK, check listings to see if she had a phone number.

And then, he called her at school? and she was called to the principal’s office over the intercom to take the call

    That used to happen?

And Moore either doesn’t know what to say, or somehow doesn’t know she would have been in class?

And then later he managed to call her again?

  41. I’m glad to see you learned so much from the McMartin preschool trial, and the Day Care sex abuse hysteria of the 1980s and ’90s in general, Pat. I mean, all those children couldn’t be lying, right? (They weren’t lying; they were just convinced by the investigators to tell the investigators what they wanted to hear).

Oh, by the by, despite both Beverly Young Nelson and Gloria Allred saying that since the night of the attempted rape allegation Nelson neither saw nor had contact with Moore it turns out he was the judge presiding over her divorce proceeding in 1999.

But so what? We all know it’s just impossible for someone with business before a court to be displeased with the outcome and bear the judge any ill will. Particularly a woman. We all know that women and children always tell the truth about sexual abuse.

And just so you know, it isn’t so much I’m a defender of Roy Moore. What I am is a big fan of repealing the 17th Amendment. We wouldn’t be having this circus if legislatures still elected Senators, not the electorate. Who are now put in the position of sorting through 40 year old unverifiable sexual misconduct allegations. And as I predicted, particularly with the one Allred brought iinto the mix, there will be reason to doubt some of these accusers. Also, an added benefit is that if the legislature’s first choice turned out to be dirty there would still be no chance that the party out of power would end up choosing the Senator.

In any case, it was because of my recollection of the McMartin persecution and the Day Care sex abuse/satanic cult hysteria that I predicted that somebody will soon dredge up an accuser who will accuse Moore of imprisoning her in hes Gadsden bondage dungeon when she was a teenager for two years. I still expect it.

And you’ll say, “So, how can you Moore defenders possibly excuse THAT?”

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

  42. Let us accept that Moore is skeevy. Given that,

-would it be better or worse to elect the Democrat?
-is there an alternative to Moore, and if so, what is it?

Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that Moore is guilty of all the things he’s accused of. Does any of that disqualify him from office? Are we really at the point where we’d say electing a child molester is better than electing a Democrat?

I’d probably write myself in as the Republican candidate. So, yes, there’s always an alternative. I might not vote for the Democrat, but I’d rather see a Democrat of good character in office than a Republican child molester.

  49. Anybody here ever been sucker punched? I was, when I was sixteen. That’s what happened here. Moore never saw it coming and that’s why he looks like he’s fumbling in his defenses. Because he had no reason to expect it, he was not prepared for it. A real sleaze, like a Bill Clinton or a Donald Trump, would have had his defenses prepared for years in case the dirt he did ever came to light.

  52. Nelson is the first accuser to claim violence. Nelson’s accusation leaves out any detail which can be independently confirmed, does not even give a date. After she holds a press conference with Gloria Freakin’ Allred, another accuser comes forward with a story similar to Nelson’s but again, leaving out any detail which can independently confirmed, we’re supposed to say Nelson’s story is now “corroborated” by the second one, which came after the highly publicized first one?

And in all these cases, any request for details that could be independently confirmed or contradicted is met with “it was 40 years ago, whaddaya gonna do”? As a principle of basic fairness, if it is unreasonable for an accuser to include enough detail that the charge can be refuted, then it should also be unreasonable to expect the accused to have to do it.

Betty Paris says, we are hearing only now, that Goody Osborne was a witch 40 years ago. Then Abigail Williams says, we are hearing only now, says Goody Osborne was a witch 40 years ago. Then Ann Putnam had a press conference with Gloria Allred and said that not only was Goody Osborne a witch forty years ago, but that he turned her into a newt (she got better). So now Elizabeth Hubbard comes forward and says she too was turned into a newt, 40 years ago (but got better).

So I guess we have confirmation. And whatever turns out to be true about the newts, we are now sure Goody Osborne had a reputation for being a witch 40 years ago, you know–we are learning this just now, with all these people coming out and saying just now that everyone knows what was going on 40 years ago. They all live in the same village together after all so they would know, right. It couldn’t possibly be a plausible alternative that these accusations are rooted in some other kind of local conflict, which for some reason has got national publicity complete with Gloria Allred, who is well known to shun the limelight and only make the serious, sober, supported allegations.

The only thing left is to see if Roy Moore outweighs a duck–or signed a yearbook.

  53. I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, okay, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay?” Trump said at a rally in Sioux Center, Iowa as the audience laughed. “It’s, like, incredible.”

  54. Do you know the origin of “If the law supposes that … the law is a (sic) ass — a idiot”? Up until late into the 19th century, the law was that if a woman committed a crime in the presence of her husband, she was innocent and her husband was guilty of the crime. The law supposed that she had no will of her own but was, instead, under her husband’s domination.

Thing is, if the ladies want the Victorian “It’s never the lady’s fault” standard, they should behave like Victorian ladies. They can start by not having boyfriends at age sixteen and not getting into strange men’s cars. We can talk about not having a different father for each child next semester in Morals 102.

To finish Mr. Bumble’s quote: “If that’s the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is, that his eye may be opened by experience — by experience.” Well, no, I do not wish Roy Moore’s experience on anyone.

    nk (dbc370)

  55. At just about every high school in America, some poor girl becomes the topic of the “frozen hot dog story”:

Though some tellings of this story date back to the early 1960s, the legend has yet to be documented. Boys (in my experience it’s almost always guys, very rarely girls, doing the recounting) generally tell it as a story they heard back in high school or junior high. The star of the piece is
usually said to be someone the teller either went to school with or a girl who attended a nearby school….

Rumors like this can do their target a lot of damage. In 1993 the first suit in the nation seeking damages from a school or school official for peer harassment was filed against the Petaluma City School District. According to the suit, a seventh-grader was taunted daily by dozens of students after one boy spread the rumor…. Failing to get any help through the system, her family had to uproot and leave town. Though the suit against the school counselor failed, in 1996 the school system settled with the girl for $250,000 without admitting any wrongdoing.

Since so many people have independently told this story I guess our new standard is that we should believe them. And so if there’s a rumor that Roy Moore was on a “banned list”–even though the one guy who’s actually had first-hand knowledge of such a list says he wasn’t on it–we’re expected to believe it, or we’re partisan shills who would support Moore if shot a guy in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue.

    Frederick (aa8740)

  56. Another problem with the signature is that it starts in cursive, then ends in printed letters.

Yeah, it’s stupid of Allred but that’s what I’ve come to expect from her. I was going from station to station this morning and someone (I found out later it was Beck) was playing a tape of Allred giving an interview. It sounded like Don Lemmon of CNN was the interviewer. Allred was tapdancing all over the place. She said she’d only give up the yearbook to an independent expert if there was going to be a Senate hearing. She refused to confirm that Moore was the presiding judge in Nelson’s divorce.

She was clearly lying. We can dismiss Nelson’s allegations, as if we didn’t already know that.

I am also convinced that Corfman is embellishing her story with the tale of Moore stripping her down to her underwear and doing the same himself.

Other than that I’m prepared to believe everything they say about Moore. Moore was already a lousy candidate even before all these sexual allegations came out. I wouldn’t have voted for him in the primary. As it stands now I think the best thing to do is vote for him to keep the seat out of the Democrats’ hands. Then he’ll be expelled and the Gov. can appoint someone better.

The long term fix, again, is repeal the 17th Amendment. We wouldn’t have this circus.

Besides, we aren’t supposed to have two houses of representatives. The upper chamber is supposed to represent the interests of the states. If the state legislatures chose the Senators we wouldn’t have that ossified clown McCain. We’d have Senators from AZ who represent AZ, not K street.

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

  57. The yearbook appears fake, like they traced his signature off her divorce papers. His assistant’s initials, D.A., being copied was the fatal mistake.

  58. @nk:Do you know the origin of “If the law supposes that … the law is a (sic) ass — a idiot”

Mr Bumble is not a sympathetic character and if Dickens puts a sentiment in his mouth, it is to discredit it.

I am with you though that I do not wish Roy Moore’s experience on anyone. Accusations that have too little detail to be confirmed are being treated as fact, rumors are being openly embraced by the New Yorker and other outlets.

If anyone is naive enough to think that this can’t happen to someone who is not a blowhard like Moore, that if your reputation can’t protect you from national media outlets interviewing everyone who lived in your town and uncritically relaying anything bad they say about you to a national audience–if you think you’re years of unimpeachable behavior and the goodwill of your neighbors would protect you, and that the reason this might be working on Roy Moore is because there’s something wrong with him and it wouldn’t work otherwise: anyone naive enough to think this is an ass. A idiot.

And I do not with their eyes to be opened by experience. But some innocent person will, and the Columbia Journalism Review of what went wrong won’t make up for it.

Yes. Because this account itself “was corroborated by classmate and Sears co-worker Kayla McLaughlin.” These people talked about this stuff at the time.

    Patterico (115b1f)

  60. “Moore’s attorney also noted that Moore told him he never signed “D.A.” after his signature as he was never a district attorney. He instead was an assistant district attorney. However, Jauregui did say that “D.A.” appears after Moore’s name in a filing in Nelson’s divorce case.

This was due to Moore’s assistant, whose initials were “D.A.,” stamping D.A. after Moore’s name in documents.

    Nate Ogden (9ae4a6) — 11/15/2017 @ 9:37 pm”

Moore chose not to be there to defend himself. Sending his attorney doesn’t bespeak honesty nor integrity. While the timing is odd, Moore needs to quit today.

Again, his Hannity interview was an epic disaster. A 30+ man does not need to ask permission of the mothers of his would be girlfriends. And a man recalls whom he dated. The only time Moore emphatically denied anything was when he was asked about Mateus. It’s all a lie, even if some of these women have been put up to mischief. Quit, the sooner the better.

    Bugg (b7f13d)

    Chuck Bartowski (70e9f3) — 11/16/2017 @ 3:41 am

There’s zero chance Moore is going to be seated as a Senator. Writing in a candidate will simply split the vote and ensure that the Dem wins. I would vote for the child molester if I knew for a certainty he was going to be expelled from the Senate. Which is the case with Moore.

So as a practical matter the voters in AL aren’t actually voting for the child molester/Roy Moore. They’re voting for Gov. Ivey to pick the next Senator. As it stands now.

The better alternative would be for Strange to resign, then the Gov. can set a date for a new special election.

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

You’ve just cleverly conflated first-hand accounts that were told to others years ago with rumors. I’m a mandated reporter and when I see deception I am mandated to report it. And once again, you’re being deceptive.

Many here would support Moore if he molested a child in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue. I can’t take credit for that. If the person who said it first wishes to, they can.

It is striking, though, that, under an administration* that has been half-mad on illegal immigration, and under which ICE agents have been allowed to go completely cowboy, an undocumented immigrant complicit in eight murders still sits in a cell in North Carolina. One might even say…sad!

Sooner or later, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will have to sign off on Montano’s extradition to Spain. (The murdered Jesuits were all Spanish, so that country’s courts have jurisdiction.) This, of course, depends on whether there’s anybody left at State to handle the paperwork.

“corroborated”, you keep saying, but it only turns out to be “she told the same story to someone else”. What date was this? What car did Moore drive (an “old” one with “two doors” is all we’re given? Who else was working that day, and were they there at close too, I mean Nelson wasn’t working the till, waiting the table, cooking the food and washing the dishes all by herself was she? Do Mel, Flo, and Vera remember anything? Who locked the restaurant so that Nelson had to “stand in the cold” and do they remember anything?

If no one else can say, yes those two were there together at a specific date, if it is so unreasonable to expect the accused to deliver any of the details that could show that it happened that way, then why is it reasonable to expect the accuser to have to refute it?

Nelson isn’t even willing to say what week the assault took place in. A “week or two” after December 22. What are you supposed to refute, if it isn’t true? If Moore had a day planner showing where he was every night for that two week period and someone who could back up that he was actually there at those places at those times, would you accept the charge as refuted? What if there’s a couple days that can’t be accounted for that well, then what?

And if that’s the level it takes to refute, why is that not the level required to accept? Not as a matter of law, we all know this ins’t court, but as a matter of fairness?

  100. There is something mighty peculiar going on about the two worst accusations against Roy Moore.

Leigh Corfman’s lawyer, and now Beverly Young Nelson in her statement, seem to be saying that Roy Moore was in fact the District Attorney of Etowah County. In the case of Beverly Young Nelson, it is in fact crucial to her story:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/us/politics/text-beverly-young-nelson-statement.html?_r=0

I knew that he was the District attorney in Elowah [sic] County. I did not understand what that meant, but I knew that he was an important person and I always treated him with respect….I trusted Mr. Moore. He was the District attorney….At some point he gave up. He then looked at me and said, “you are a child. I am the District attorney of Etiwah [sic] County. If you tell anyone about this, no one will believe you.”

But he was not in fact, the distruct attorney of Etowah County, and anybody who lived there would know that by now.

It would have come to her attention in the 1982 and 1986 election campaigns. Plus the fact that he never became the District Attorney of Etowah County.

And by the way, Gloria Allred’s misspelling of the name of the county in two different ways is probably no accident.

That way you can’t use Lexis/Nexis to fact that. You might even have to get an Atlas even to check the name of the county Gadsden was in.

The Spelling Mafia strikes again! (Misspellings of this nature by lawyers indicate some important fact is being hidden.)

And I believe his apology did not admit that there was any touching in the least (fing-y tips to kevlar!!!! in any event. If Gloria Allrot says it’s daytime outside some important fact is being hidden.

Well, if she says it is daytime when tis nighttime oor nighttime when it isn’t.

Sandy Burglar did that. I mean about the level of light when he took those copies out of the National archives. I ned to check to refresh my memory which way he lied.’

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/20/AR2006122001968.html

On the evening of Oct. 2, 2003, former White House national security adviser Samuel R. “Sandy” Berger stashed highly classified documents he had taken from the National Archives beneath a construction trailer at the corner of Ninth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW so he could surreptitiously retrieve them later and take them to his office, according to a newly disclosed government investigation.

Actualy he probably didn’t put them under any trailer, but hid them elsewhere. There was something about how light it was that I think he lied about.

And the missile witneeses to the crash of TWA Flight 800 also lied, or had the wrong time – because it was not dark at 8:31 pm Eastern Daylight Time, Wednesday, July 17, 1996 off the coast of Long Island. (the genuine witnesses saw flares shooting up, and I don’t think the FBI was too dumb to realize that, but President Bill Clinton was pushing the missile theory, because the missile theory was part of the cover-up.)

“I got into his car in the passenger seat.”

Why do you suppose that Gloria Allred wanted to emphasize that the car had only two doors, and was an older model in 1977? What does that mean? No seat belts?

Now Roy Moore supposedly reached over her shoulder to lock the car door while assaulting her. I had thought locking the door would be a problem because it couldn’t be done electronically. Here, she concedes that.

By the way, there’d be no reason for her to remember the car model, unless it was the same one as another car she rode in.

    Sammy Finkelman (8e756e)

  115. By the way, did anyone catch? The yearbook was for previous year. It was a yearbook for the school year ending in June, 1977. Which presumably Beverly Young Nelson had, at least notionally, ordered late:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/us/politics/text-beverly-young-nelson-statement.html

I turned 16 on November 14, 1977. About a month later I received my yearbook from Southside high school where I had spent my freshman and sophomore years.

In December, 1977, she was actually a junior in high school, and in a different school (if you read between the lines.)

So, can we verify that she went to the school that the yearbook is for? I wouldn’t put it above Gloria Allred to just have her client lie about that. Is she in that yearbook?

    Sammy Finkelman (8e756e)

  116. Frederick (64d4e1) — 11/16/2017 @ 9:10 am

Nelson isn’t even willing to say what week the assault took place in. A “week or two” after December 22.

Well, it would be the same day – or rather the day before – she suddenly quit her job, because she says she never went back to that restaurant.

Easy to determine in the year or two after that, much harder after several years.

There could be a record of what car(s) Moore owned. I’m not sure that would help resolve this, unless it was a 4-door sedan or something. And then anyway he could have borrowed a car – or maybe not since he was there many many times according to her, so she’d have noticed a different car.

    Sammy Finkelman (8e756e)

  117. “corroborated”, you keep saying, but it only turns out to be “she told the same story to someone else”.

At this point I’d vote for the child molester for the same reason Caligula was going to appoint his horse to the office of consul.

Caligula may have been legitimately nuts but that was the sanest idea he ever had. Why appoint a Senator to become consul and end up with only a horse’s @$$ when you could have the whole horse?

Both Ds and Rs in the Senate are making a lot of noise about Moore being unfit to be a US Senator. Perhaps if he had driven his Oldsmobile into a river with one of his teenage victims trapped in it the other Senators would have a higher opinion of him. The members of the Senate have complete control over who is and who is not fit to be a Senator. If the child molester/Moore gets elected and they don’t expel him then that tells the world who they think is fit to be a US Senator.

At which point we can conclude that we have only succeeded in adding just one more child molester to our Parliament of W**res, and in that light it’s not so much a national tragedy but an illuminating moment. Maybe during the next special election I’ll scrape something off the bottom of my shoe, we can all vote for it and then we’ll see if that “august body” will go ahead and seat that.

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

  131. The members of the Senate have complete control over who is and who is not fit to be a Senator.

Not really. They can only seat or refuse to seat whomever the states send to them. The Senate doesn’t get to choose the candidates. The people of the states can decide for themselves whether to even send a candidate in the first place.

So, what you’re saying is that it’s okay for you to vote for a child molester as long as the child molester votes the way you want him to. That a child molester of your party is better than a decent person of the other party. Or perhaps you are saying that just being a Democrat makes a person more morally reprehensible than being a child molester?

In any case, I vehemently disagree with you. I would not vote for a child molester under any circumstances; my standards for public office are higher than that.

  135. In any case, I vehemently disagree with you. I would not vote for a child molester under any circumstances; my standards for public office are higher than that.

Are you saying you won’t vote for whatever I scrape off the bottom of my shoe, Barkowsi?

Whatever it is that Bartkowski is engaging in reminds me of Senator “Mumbles” Leahy totally missing the point about Texas Supreme Court Justice Willett’s tweet about supporting a constitutional right to marry bacon. And, yes, Leahy was completely self-unaware too, thinking that Willett was taking some sort of serious shot at recent SCOTUS decisions.

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

  136. Are you saying you won’t vote for whatever I scrape off the bottom of my shoe, Barkowsi?

That’s exactly what I’m saying. I hold public officials to a minimum standard. If someone doesn’t meet that standard, I don’t vote for him.

    Are you really this obtuse?

I’m not at all obtuse, but maybe you don’t realize what you are saying. What did you mean by “At this point I’d vote for the child molester”? You said yourself that you would vote for a child molester over a Democrat. (I’m guessing if the parties were reversed, you would vote for a Republican over a child molester.) I can only assume that you think child molesters are better than Democrats. And that Republican anythings are better than Democrat anythings. If that’s not the case, then tell me which is better: child molesters or Democrats.

I won’t vote for a child molester, and if you would vote for a child molester, then God help you.

    Chuck Bartowski (7ba363)

  137. Whatever it is that Bartkowski is engaging in reminds me of Senator “Mumbles” Leahy totally missing the point ….

Nice try. I asked you a simple question: whether you would vote for a child molester that you knew would not be rejected by the Senate instead of a Democrat. You said you’d vote for the child molester. That says much more about you than it does me.

    Chuck Bartowski (7ba363)

    Chuck Bartowski (7ba363) — 11/16/2017 @ 2:40 pm

No, actually it says a lot more about the Senate that doesn’t have to seat the child molester at all. Like I said, you have to be really obtuse not to get the point. Which is why I was revisiting the issue of just how much of a lunatic was Caligula. Because the entire reason he was going to make his horse a consul was to demonstrate his contempt for the Senate. I would do the same by sending them a child molester. And then something I scraped off my shoe.

    Seat this!

Thus demonstrating that however necessary you imagine your high standards for those who hold public office may be, that sentiment is not shared by those who hold public office.

Clearly that’s a lesson you need to learn.

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

If the Senate would seat a child molester when they have the option not to, then God help us all. And the sooner we find out whether or not they will the better.

There’s zero chance Moore is going to be seated as a Senator.

    Side bet?

    Patterico (115b1f) — 11/16/2017 @ 7:33 am

It never occurred to me that they would seat the child molester/Roy Moore.

    But maybe they would.

So now the whole argument for not voting for Roy Moore boils down to this.

“You can’t vote for him because he’s a pedophile and if he wins, why, they’ll just let him into the club.”

Essentially, Bartkowski, your philosophy on voting is that we have to vote strategically to protect the Senate from itself. It you’re right I say we illustrate that in no uncertain terms. Maybe firing off a few flares to make sure nobody misses the point.

Vote for the child molester! And maybe when the Senate decides that, by golly, that child molester is indeed fit to be a Senator that’ll wake your neighbor up.

    Steve57 (0b1dac)

  140. …Nice try. I asked you a simple question: whether you would vote for a child molester that you knew would not be rejected by the Senate instead of a Democrat. You said you’d vote for the child molester. That says much more about you than it does me.

    Chuck Bartowski (7ba363) — 11/16/2017 @ 2:40 pm

Shorter Bartkowski: “Only a scumbag like Steve57 would vote for the child molester. We, Steve57’s moral superiors, will vote for the child molester’s cellie.”

It reminds me of the stories my friends in the Navy told me about the 1970s. No, not the Roy Moore kinda stories. But back in the ’70s the squadrons had to hand out Good Conduct Medals.

So they did so based on who had spent the least time in the brig.

Now we’re voting for Senators on the same basis.

  141. Beverly Young Nelson’s emotions certainly seem genuine at the point when she s talking about the attempted rape. But some of her statements seem scripted.

She specifically states she attened a different school.

Both Gloria Aldred and Beverly Young Nelson pronounce the name of the county as Etowah.

Gloria Aldred said that Beverly Young Nelson told her younger sister about two years later and they discussed this over the years. (also told her husband, before she married him 13 years ago,and her motgher four years ago)

Also she said Moore trapped her in the front seat by locking he doors. The thing is, any American car she would have been in in 1977 would pop the front locks just by pulling on the door latch handle. The locks on the front doors were designed to keep people out, not people in.

  147. The video has slight differences from the writen statement.

    She actually said:

knew that he was the District attorney in Etowah County. I did not understand what that meant, but I did know that he was an important person

She does not accurately read the iscription saying that it went:

To a / sweeter more / beautiful girl I / could not say /”Merry Christmas” / Christmas, 1977 / Love,/ Roy Moore, Olde Hickory House

and says that he signed it: Roy Moore, DA.

She leaves out the “D.A. / 12-22-77” and adds a “Roy Moore, DA.”

  148. @127/@129: Chuck, Levi: nk nails it perfectly on another thread w/this comment:

“She peddles her body and then complains when men “objectify” her. Ok, then, ma’am.”

And Chuck, it’s not ‘past character’– it’s current commerce: her softcore is up for sale on her website right now. It’s simply hypocrisy– she sold any moral high ground for a paycheck years ago.

    NK’s right.

When I was 15 years old I began working after school. I was attending Gadsden High School. I worked at the Olde Hickory House on E. Meighan Blvd. off of Highway 431 in Gadsden, Alabama….I turned 16 on November 14, 1977. About a month later I received my yearbook from Southside high school where I had spent my freshman and sophomore years.

It was a yearbook from a previous school, and presumably a previous year.

Are you running a fever? I never heard the name Judge Roy Moore until a few months ago. Now I’m supposed to throw tantrums over him if his ego isn’t stroked? Just ask a bunch of teenage girls how that works out.

No, actually I was counting on the Senate expelling him. But then Pat asked me to make a sidebet and I realized I can’t count on them for anything.

What I’m wondering about is, what really is the point? If the Senate would seat a child molester all bets are off and every man is for himself. That is the gist of things.
