Report: Trump Will Not Withdraw from Paris Climate Deal; UPDATE: Denied by White House

IMHO, both sides (the EU apparatchik who claimed this, and the White House) might be right; The claim that the US won’t withdraw fits with the actual stated policy; we’ll withdraw after the waiting period unless it’s renegotiated with terms favorable to the US. So, hypothetically, if the Paris Accord nations are willing to give us the same deal as, for example, Turkey or India, we’d probably stay in (and even I’d support that, purely for the money we’d get – and have to do nothing in return).

    If this had been from a US source, I’d be concerned that it’s a sign Trump was waffling on the issue. However, seeing as the source is EU, I’m not too worried, because how would they know?

    However… I’d be lying if I said I had full confidence. What we actually have is Trump’s promise to withdraw, and he has a spotty record for keeping promises (even ones totally within his power to keep, like repealing DACA on day one).
