Surprising Number Of Threats And Attacks Against GOP Congressmen

Filed under: General — Dana @ 9:42 pm

[guest post by Dana]

A report notes that 30 GOP congressmen have been attacked or been the victims of a death threat since May. Here are a few examples:

May 8: Wendi Wright, 35, was arrested after stalking Rep. David Kustoff (Tenn.) and trying to run him off the road. After pulling over, Wright “began to scream and strike the windows on Kustoff’s car and even reached inside the vehicle.”

June 14: Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Jeff Flake (Ariz.), and Reps. Steve Scalise (La.), Kevin Brady (Texas), Jack Bergman (Mich.), Mike Bishop (Mich.), Mike Conaway (Texas), Roger Williams (Texas), John Moolenaar (Mich.), Gary Palmer (Ala.), Chuck Fleischmann (Tenn.), Ron DeSantis (Fla.), Barry Loudermilk (Ga.), Mark Walker (N.C.), Steve Pearce (N.M.), Brad Wenstrup (Ohio), Rodney Davis (Ill.), Jeff Duncan (S.C.), Trent Kelly (Miss.), Mo Brooks (Ala.), and Joe Barton (Texas) were attacked by a gunman during a baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.

Scalise, the House majority whip, was shot in the hip, and remains in the hospital. Four others were injured, including a staffer for Williams and two Capitol Police officers assigned to Scalise.

The same day, New York Rep. Claudia Tenney received an email reading, “One down, 216 to go.”

June 17: Missouri Rep. Ann Wagner revealed that she had gotten five death threats in the weeks leading up to the Scalise shooting. Wagner said that protesters had been “vandalizing my home, showing up with masks and gravestones, and laying down on my driveway and drawing chalk outlines of dead bodies. Picketing my church at 8 and 10 o’clock Mass.”

June 22: An Ohio man was arrested for leaving a voicemail threatening the life and family of Rep. Steve Stivers (Ohio).

“We’re coming to get every goddamn one of you and your families. Maybe the next one taken down will be your daughter. Huh? Or your wife. Or even you,” the man said.

The same day, Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz played a threatening voicemail he had received on “Fox & Friends.”

“I suggest you prepare for the battle motherf**ker, and the apocalypse,” the caller yelled. “Because we are going to hunt your ass down, wrap a rope around your neck, and hang you from a lamppost.”

Aside from the law, death threats and attacks are reprehensible, and can never, ever be justified. No matter how much an individual detests Trump or how angry one might be about Hillary’s loss, nothing makes these okay. Even when it’s a GOP congressman-elect who has done the attacking, there is no justification. At the very least, let’s don’t drag Jesus into this unholy mess in an attempt to justify such behaviors – either threats of death or physical attacks:

Jesus assaulted and bodily threw the money changers out of the temple who were trespassing in Gods’ house.

Greg Gianforte emulated Jesus by assaulting Ben Jacobs, who was trespassing and invading his privacy. He also proved to be a real Montanan to his supporters who are not self-proclaimed Christians but abide by the teachings and actions of Jesus.

God help us all.

Growing up Catholic in the Bronx of the ’50s and ’60s, Jesus and the money-changers in the Temple was always my favorite New Testament story. It almost always provoked my “Rock ’em Jesus, sock ’em Jesus, go God go.” cheer.

If you think the number of threats is surprising, you haven’t been paying attention. Just listen to any of your local, garden variety progressives. The media, Democrats, GOPe, and DC bureaucrats are complicit in this as well as the coup against the constitutionally elected govt. And no one (except J. Christian Adams and the odd Rep congress critter), is fighting back. Instead, you argue over legal arcana while the opposition is administering a thousand cuts as a prelude to their carpet bombing. Outrage isn’t a weapon.

  7. I’m not surprised. Leftists treat us like we are all Nazis. We have no more free speech rights than Nazis have. They form up gangs and walk around with baseball bats. They throw bricks at us if we gather in a park to wave the American flag. They are convinced that Trump is Hitler. If they had the opportunity to kill him, they would. And they would eagerly saw off his head and hold it up for the cameras. The only false note about Kathy Griffin’s photoshoot is that she wasn’t smiling like Jared Loughner because that’s what a typical liberal would look like with Trump’s head dangling from their hand.

They spread fear and dread, with paranoid conspiracy theories about Russian puppet masters. That has the effect of stirring up crazy people to do crazy things. It’s irresponsible and it constitutes hate speech. (Hate speech that is protected by the Constitution…)

  8. Democrats are incapable of understanding the idea of trade-offs (TANSTAAFL). If they did, they wouldn’t be Democrats. They are incapable of understanding the need to fix the mess Obama created, because they are blind to their own faults (they are incapable of perceiving downsides/costs to their policies). They believe that their policies are good policies (the policies that all good people support), and good policies have no downsides, so therefore there is nothing to fix. If Trump wants to make changes, to them it can only be because he is wicked (because he is not a good person, he doesn’t support good person policies, therefore he is not a good person).

When is the last time you heard a Democrat say, “yes, this particular social policy that we want everyone to adopt has some significant drawbacks that will impose serious costs on the community, but on balance it’s better than the alternative”? Never. Anyone who perceives a reason not to support their policies (e.g., sees drawbacks to the policy) is committing sin/error. If you even contemplate the economic harm caused by raising the minimum wage to $15/hour, you are demonstrating a capacity for sin. They don’t try to debate facts, they try to shame people into silence and submission. By even attempting to have the debate, you mark yourself as a heretic and a sinner. We are dealing with religious zealots. It is no surprise that religious zealots want to murder heretics.

It’s no surprise that Democrats are in favor of policies that massively increase the deficit/national debt. They are literally incapable of perceiving the cost of an increased deficit/debt, because they have lobotomized themselves in the name of virtue.

They look at it and see nothing, like the robots in Westworld that are programmed to be incapable of noticing certain details.

When a political party collectively decides that simple arithmetic is “wrongthink,” they are actively suppressing the simple statement that “2+2=4.”

  9. This has so incensed the California AG that he’s now banning state travel to Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Oh, wait that was for another reason. An anti-Christian travel ban.

But still, this is where the hate comes from: Democrat officials demonizing the majority of Americans.

  13. What the heck is surprising about it?

When Scott Pelley on CBS says that Scalise’s wounds were “to a degree, self-inflicted” and the moon bats are told daily that any change to Obamacare will kill 20 million, nothing should surprise anyone.

A first step towards creating the two or more countries that are tied together only by each side’s zeal to control the other. Why on earth am I governed by a New York Values guy like Trump or Hillary or Obama? There’s no reason for a government to be so huge and so powerful.

The idea of state’s rights has failed or been defeated depending on point of view, and we would be fine just being different states entirely.

  27. The thing is, what we are watching are the death throes of a Political Elite, and they really aren’t that bad….yet. The Republican Elite that held sway until the Depression went relatively quietly. The Planter Aristocracy needed a Civil War to oust them. The European Aristocracy took a revolution or two, several vicious continental wars, and a long time to fade into deserved obscurity. Who knows how long it will take the Progressive Elitists to retire from the field.

But its clear that they have no intention to go quietly, and have yet to grasp that a lot of the people they are proposing to attack go to gun ranges for fun.

ASs usual, Dustin, you miss the point, which is “two can play this game, you morons” and the federal government has far more cards.

For a state to impose sanctions on other states is already anathema to the idea of Union. California is now imposing sanctions on EIGHT states because they pass laws to protect religious beliefs from the State. It is NOT discrimination to refuse to participate in something you view as sin, whether the sin is same sex marriage or burning coal.

This quote is helpful in the extreme once you realize it is the acme of Freudian projection. In that context, the current behavior of the Left and the #NeverTrump right are near-perfectly explained. It is a manifesto of cultural intolerance and economic class bigotry that could not be more hostile to the Founding Principles.

James Hodgkinson got the message and acted on it, while scores of others are still getting up their nerve. That will come.

  44. Originally, the “lone wolf” was a term used to describe followers of neo-nazi and similar schemes maybe thirty years ago. This person absorbed the unhinged crap spread by the Bigs in the movement. And, eventually, the unhinged acted on it. The key was nobody could ever find direct comms from the actor to the Movement, whatever it was. Nobody could find a letter addressed to “Harly Unhinged” from the Major Neo Nazi.
As usual, the rightist lone wolves’ violence has been hugely exaggerated, mostly by referring to it in tones of horror (since the numbers aren’t there).
It worked for the neo-nazis, it works for the jihadis, and it’s working for the left.
Spread the rhetoric and the unhinged will act. It’s not an accident. It’s purposeful.

  45. I know I’m not welcome here but has anyone seen this ?

The FBI received a copy of the Democrat-funded dossier in August, during the heat of the campaign, and is said to have contracted in October to pay Steele $50,000 to help corroborate the dirt on Trump — a relationship that “raises substantial questions about the independence” of the bureau in investigating Trump, warned Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

    Mike K (f97920)

  46. 42… it’s gonna wash that taste right out of their pieholes…

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  47. 48. Yes. I saw the story on page 8 of today’s New York Post that Powerline links to.

What struck me was that the Senate Judiciary Committee has threatened to subpoena Fusion GPS, because they are not co-operating. It seems like the Senate Judiciary Committee is getting interested in investigating aspects of the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign and the neutrality of the FBI.

Of course, it was known that Hillary Clinton supporters were responsible for hiring Christopher Steele although there were attempts to obscure this, so they are really atte, pting to verify the obvious.

Fusion GPS, it was reported last year, was first hired by some anti-Trump Republican(s) Which may hae been a laundry for HRC, but anyway Trump gave up so dems had to be brought in as the clients. Steele was hired only in June. So all that waa after only Dems were involved.

However, what seems to happened is not that Steele made it up, but that Putin made it up.

..thinking Steele was reporting to British intelligence or someone else in the U.K, and not American opponents of Trump. He was looking past the election, expecting the UK to keep it secret.

Steele also genuinely believed what he was told, not knowing enough about Trump – or even Russia, because certain errors were planted in the disinformation in order to be able to take it back if it backfired – to know it had to be falae.

It is also posisble he stumbled upon some real information and then he was supplied with a lot of wrong information in order to turn all his reporting into garbage.

    Sammy Finkelman (20d02d)

  48. From Mike K’s link:

Senate investigators are demanding to see records of communications between Fusion GPS and the FBI and the Justice Department, including any contacts with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, now under congressional investigation for possibly obstructing the Hillary Clinton email probe, and deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, who is under investigation by the Senate and the Justice inspector general for failing to recuse himself despite financial and political connections to the Clinton campaign through his Democrat activist wife. Senate investigators have singled out McCabe as the FBI official who negotiated with Steele.

That is troubling if it’s true, and it sounds credible. I know this is a wild idea but someone in power should consider reassigning or firing all the Obama appointees.

    DRJ (15874d)

  49. Maybe someone should have thought to do it on Day One.

    DRJ (15874d)

  50. 48. Comey said that he told Trump on january 6 that they did not then have an OPEN counterintelligence investigation into Trump. He implied there was at that time a possiblilty they might in the future but said nothing about a CLOSED one in the past.

Which I think there’s a good reason to think existed.

  52. The whole GD’d bunch ought to be indicted for their ongoing attempts to overthrow the last election and for their deep state, Big Brother crimes. Let’s see these lawyers who are the linchpins of our legal system do their effing job.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  53. I know this is a wild idea but someone in power should consider reassigning or firing all the Obama appointees.

sleazy corrupt fbi bimbo Andrew McCabe isn’t an obama appointee

he was appointed deputy director by corrupt and womanish FBI director James Comey and then became acting director after comey got fired for behavior what was considered too erratic and sleazy even for a scummy FBI bimbo

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  54. He was employed during Obama’s tenure and while they may not be able to fire him, he can be reassigned. Especially if Trump had fired Comey on Day One and named a successor FBI Director(which he has yet to do).

    DRJ (15874d)

  55. coulda been so beautiful coulda been so right

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  56. When did you decide to make “womanish” a derogatory term?

    DRJ (15874d)

  57. it’s my comey word it’s an apt and it is so lovely

    he wears it well

like a string of pearls one saves for a magical evening

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  58. They won’t because holding true powerbrokers accountable is a theoretical exercise. All of these admonitions of “should’ve done this”, “must do that”, “if only” is garbage. The only people held accountable for their actions are those outside the circles of power… people whose activities or alleged crimes usually affect the few, as opposed to the true criminals in the bureaucracy whose actions or willful inaction can affect the lives of tens of millions.

You won’t see even a hair on their heads get mussed. Fat pensions all around funded by the taxpaying suckers.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  59. btw when has womanish *not* been a derogatory term? my whole life it been like that!

    (of a man) effeminate; unmanly.

“Burden thought him a weak womanish fool”

synonyms: effeminate, girlish, girly, unmanly, unmasculine, epicene

“James Comey’s first stage role was that of a womanish baker from Brooklyn”

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  60. I may have it straight now.

There were two stories about an email – one in the New York Times and one in the Washington Post.

The New York Times story appeared in April and was vague about this:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/22/us/politics/james-comey-election.html

During Russia’s hacking campaign against the United States, intelligence agencies could peer, at times, into Russian networks and see what had been taken. Early last year, F.B.I. agents received a batch of hacked documents, and one caught their attention.

The document, which has been described as both a memo and an email, was written by a Democratic operative who expressed confidence that Ms. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far, according to several former officials familiar with the document.

Read one way, it was standard Washington political chatter. Read another way, it suggested that a political operative might have insight into Ms. Lynch’s thinking.

Normally, when the F.B.I. recommends closing a case, the Justice Department agrees and nobody says anything. The consensus in both places was that the typical procedure would not suffice in this instance, but who would be the spokesman?

The document complicated that calculation, according to officials. If Ms. Lynch announced that the case was closed, and Russia leaked the document, Mr. Comey believed it would raise doubts about the independence of the investigation.

Mr. Comey sought advice from someone he has trusted for many years. He dispatched his deputy to meet with David Margolis, who had served at the Justice Department since the Johnson administration and who, at 76, was dubbed the Yoda of the department.

What exactly was said is not known. Mr. Margolis died of heart problems a few months later. But some time after that meeting, Mr. Comey began talking to his advisers about announcing the end of the Clinton investigation himself, according to a former official.

David Margolis died on Tuesday July 12, 2016, so that would place the time Comey consulted him no later than April or May. He had been at D0J for 51 years, since 1965. Margolis was born Dec. 18, 1939 so that makes Dec 19, 2015 the earliest possible date. He is not to be confused with another David Margolis (1930-2008) who, unlike him, has a Wikipedia entry.

The Washington Post story ran a month later and said:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/how-a-dubious-russian-document-influenced-the-fbis-handling-of-the-clinton-probe/2017/05/24/f375c07c-3a95-11e7-9e48-c4f199710b69_story.html

In the midst of the 2016 presidential primary season, the FBI received what was described as a Russian intelligence document claiming a tacit understanding between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department over the inquiry into whether she intentionally revealed classified information through her use of a private email server.

The Russian document cited a supposed email describing how then-Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch had privately assured someone in the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply into the matter. If true, the revelation of such an understanding would have undermined the integrity of the FBI’s investigation.

Current and former officials have said that Comey relied on the document in making his July decision to announce on his own, without Justice Department involvement, that the investigation was over. That public announcement — in which he criticized Clinton and made extensive comments about the evidence — set in motion a chain of other FBI moves that Democrats now say helped Trump win the presidential election.

But according to the FBI’s own assessment, the document was bad intelligence — and according to people familiar with its contents, possibly even a fake sent to confuse the bureau. The Americans mentioned in the Russian document insist they do not know each other, do not speak to each other and never had any conversations remotely like the ones described in the document. Investigators have long doubted its veracity, and by August the FBI had concluded it was unreliable.

The document, obtained by the FBI, was a piece of purported analysis by Russian intelligence, the people said. It referred to an email supposedly written by the then-chair of the Democratic National Committee, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), and sent to Leonard Benardo, an official with the Open Society Foundations, an organization founded by billionaire George Soros and dedicated to promoting democracy.

The Russian document did not contain a copy of the email, but it described some of the contents of the purported message.

In the supposed email, Wasserman Schultz claimed Lynch had been in private communication with a senior Clinton campaign staffer named Amanda Renteria during the campaign. The document indicated Lynch had told Renteria that she would not let the FBI investigation into Clinton go too far, according to people familiar with it.

Current and former officials have argued that the secret document gave Comey good reason to take the extraordinary step over the summer of announcing the findings of the Clinton investigation himself without Justice Department involvement.

Comey had little choice, these people have said, because he feared that if Lynch announced no charges against Clinton, and then the secret document leaked, the legitimacy of the entire case would be questioned.

From the moment the bureau received the document from a source in early March 2016, its veracity was the subject of an internal debate at the FBI. Several people familiar with the matter said the bureau’s doubts about the document hardened in August when officials became more certain that there was nothing to substantiate the claims in the Russian document. FBI officials knew the bureau never had the underlying email with the explosive allegation, if it ever existed.

Yet senior officials at the bureau continued to rely on the document before and after the election as part of their justification for how they handled the case.

Wasserman Schultz and Benardo said in separate interviews with The Washington Post that they do not know each other and have never communicated. Renteria, in an interview, and people familiar with Lynch’s account said the two also do not know each other and have never communicated. Lynch declined to comment for this article.

Moreover, Wasserman Schultz, Benardo and Renteria said they have never been interviewed by the FBI about the matter.

Comey’s defenders still insist that there is reason to believe the document is legitimate and that it rightly played a major role in the director’s thinking.

“It was a very powerful factor in the decision to go forward in July with the statement that there shouldn’t be a prosecution,” said a person familiar with the matter. “The point is that the bureau picked up hacked material that hadn’t been dumped by the bad guys [the Russians] involving Lynch. And that would have pulled the rug out of any authoritative announcement.”

Other people familiar with the document disagree sharply, saying such claims are disingenuous because the FBI has known for a long time that the Russian intelligence document is unreliable and based on multiple layers of hearsay.

“It didn’t mean anything to the investigation until after [senior FBI officials] had to defend themselves,” said one person familiar with the matter. “Then they decided it was important. But it’s junk, and they already knew that.”

An FBI spokesman declined to comment. Comey did not respond to requests for comment.
The people familiar with the Russian document spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss its contents. No one familiar with it asked The Post to withhold details about its origins to safeguard the source.

So what we have so far is this: (there;s more)

In March 2016, the FBI gets what purports to be a Russian intelligence analysis that references a hacked email from Person C (DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz) to Person D (Leonard Benardo, who works for a Soros backed organization) that says that Person A (Attorney General Loretta Lynch )told Person B (Clinton campaign staffer Amanda Renteria) that she would not let the FBI investigation into Clinton go too far.

Comey consults Yoda about to do.

Person C and D say they never emailed or communicated with each other and Person B says she never communicated with Person A. Person A declined to comment but others did for her. But that was when the Washongton Post asked in 2017. The FBI never contacted any of them in 2016.

    Sammy Finkelman (20d02d)

  61. In the supposed email, Wasserman Schultz claimed Lynch had been in private communication with a senior Clinton campaign staffer named Amanda Renteria during the campaign. The document indicated Lynch had told Renteria that she would not let the FBI investigation into Clinton go too far, according to people familiar with it.

who among us would be shocked to learn that certified laboratory tests have revealed Amanda Renteria to be 99.9% pure, sleazy harvardtrash not unlike ted cruz and jonathan soros and john roberts and mitt romney and barack obama

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  62. It was the Washington Post story probably that Comey was talking about when he said that what was reported was nonsense. (and the thing that was nonsense was that the FBI had concluded that the email was forged.)

BURR: Were there other things that contributed to that that you can
    describe in an open session?

COMEY: There were other things that contributed to that. One significant item I can’t, I know the committee’s been briefed on. There’s been some public accounts of it, which are nonsense, but I understand the committee’s been briefed on the classified facts.

Note: The Spelling adia strikes again! The name that appears in the Washington Post, Benardo, probably should be Bernardo. Search both ways.

and the moon bats are told daily that any change to Obamacare will kill 20 million,

That’s a thousandfold or hundredfold exaggeration.

Is there anyone really saying 20 million?

Now Donald Trump, in between tweets about why didn’t the Obama Administration do anything about the Russian meddling, and anything else he can think of to say on this subject, has things about health care:

  70. here’s a good post about how sleazy and dishonorable princeton-grad Robert Mueller set about corrupting the once-respected FBI and turned it into the stench-ridden sewer of corruption it is today:

With respect to possible corruption of the FBI: I regret to say that the process began in earnest under Bush, who appointed Mueller. An acquaintance recently complained that the Bureau was no longer what it used to be, or maybe never had been. I maintained that the institutional culture was changed through the Legal Counsel Division. That’s how it always work in America, isn’t it? If you want to enforce Liberal/PC norms, you change the lawyers.

Formerly, the Bureau’s legal division, and most top administrations positions, was/were staffed with Special Agents who were lawyers. Under Mueller, outsiders were increasingly brought in, including to Legal Counsel Division. For example: Andrew Weissman, who twice did stints at the FBI, and is now a top guy on Mueller’s Special Counsel team. That kind of back and forth between the FBI and private practice and/or other agencies was previously absolutely unheard of. And the choice tells you pretty much all you need to know about Mueller…

Consider how much of this goes unreported, too- ‘under the radar’ as it were, and not only on a national level; endured as ‘part of the job,’ by members of Congress from both major parties, but on state and local levels as well, not to mention threats faced by many is all walks of public life; from judges to teachers– even actors and reporters. America remains an angry and very violent society. ‘Leading by example’ in this arena is not the nation’s strongest suit and the world takes note.

  74. 75. No, the political corruption of the FBI started with the appointment of Louis Freeh in 1993, if not before. Freeh was not against Clinton – where it mattered.

It was the FBI that started the Waco fire and lied about it. Or certain people in the FBI. William Sessions was kept from the scene at Waco, his water cannon plan was rejected in favor of a tear gas (exceppt that it said the tear gagas would only be used if firing camw from theh davidiana compound – which did not happen – but the CS tear gas started the frire and they knew it would happen.

Clinton fired FBI Director William Sessions only (two months) after the Waco fire. He wanted him to resign but he would not no matter what terems they offered him. That’s why I thought he needed “cause.”

  75. Trump and his supporters are fighting a losing battle when they focus on criticizing and getting even with people who hurt them. Sure, it’s satisfying emotionally but they are fighting a defensive battle, and defense rarely wins. Offense wins.

If I were Trump, dealing with the opposition he faces and also the problems he has created, I would appoint Chris Christie as FBI Director. That would be playing offense. It would upset his daughter Ivanka and SIL Jared Kushner and there might be some trust issues (let alone loyalty issues), but too bad. Christie has a background in government and law, he has a history with Trump, and I think he might take the job. Christie also comes from the urban Northeast so he speaks Trump’s language and knows how he operates. IMO Trump needs Christie or someone like him, and I can’t think of anyone like him who would take the job.

  88. “In her much-read New York Times column “Donald Skunks the Democrats,” Maureen Dowd skates quite close to the truth before swerving off into mendacious Timesland fantasy.

Writing in the aftermath of Jon Ossoff’s embarrassing defeat by Karen Handel in Georgia, Dowd begins by acknowledging the obvious:

You know who is really sick and tired of Donald Trump winning, to the point where they beg, “Please, Mr. President, sir, it’s too much”?

    Democrats.

Yep. The Democrats, as Dowd, says, “just got skunked four to nothing in races they excitedly thought they could win because everyone they hang with hates Trump.”

“To skunk,” verb, transitive: “to defeat someone overwhelmingly in a game or contest, especially by preventing them from scoring at all.”

Why did this happen? Dowd peeps gingerly over the inky ideological carapace of the Times: “If Trump is the Antichrist, as they believe, then Georgia was going to be a cakewalk, and Nancy Pelosi was going to be installed as speaker before the midterms by acclamation.”

“If.” But what if not? The Georgia race, just like all the other special elections since November 9, “turned into another soul-sucking disappointment

Does that mean—could it be—that Donald Trump is not the Antichrist after all?

The logic of Dowd’s argument hints at that awful possibility. But that flicker of sanity is quickly extinguished by a cataract of Demspeak. Dowd quotes Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio. Yes, it’s Trump 4, Dems zero, Ryan admits. But why? How could this be?

Trump does robo calls. He tweets. He talks about the races. He motivates his base, and he moves the needle, and that’s a problem for us. Guys, we’re still doing something wrong here because a) he’s president and b) we’re still losing to his candidates.
Memo to Tim Ryan (and please pass it along to Maureen Dowd): Republicans are winning all over the country, as much or more in local and states races as in national ones, not because Donald Trump makes robo calls, because he tweets, or because he “motivates the base.”

Nope, the Republicans are winning everywhere because people like what they are selling. They especially like what Donald Trump is selling: an America-first attitude that unapologetically makes the U.S. economy and U.S. national security top priorities.”
