Patterico (86c8ed) — 4/1/2016 @ 7:26 amActually, Patterico, I would love, love, love to see a “word cloud” composed of the one word that 1,000 people say in response when they hear the word “Trump.”

Rick Ballard (edb5cf) — 4/1/2016 @ 9:43 amI.m going to be fair to old Donald. He’s the only GOP candidate who addressed the issue that bedevils those Americans who never went to college. Their parents are/were middle class and they are not. The kids of jobs they would have had in their parents generation are being done in Asia for companies that purport to be American ones. Or they are being dome in America by people who were not born here for under-the-table wages.
True, the solutions that Donald offers (tariffs, breaking trade deals, executive orders to private companies) are terrible. They are less terrible than Bernie’s solutions, and less terrible yet than SMOD. And that really isn’t a plus.
And, true, his deportment and general readiness for the Presidency leaves ample room for growth, which there is no indication will happen, but we’ve had worse presidents. Fillmore and Buchanan to name two. And, heck, it’d be fun to have a president who for all we know is hitting on his guest’s wife at state dinners. At least he’s batting for America, unlike Obama.
So, we survived Obama, maybe we can survive President Trump. Assuming he doesn’t start a nuclear war over some comment about his wife’s implants.

pinandpuller (a12946) — 4/1/2016 @ 11:14 amVictor von Doom was born in Latveria and is not a natural born citizen of the United States. Vandal Savages’ birth predates the US and he is therefore a natural born citizen under the appropriate clause.
I do agree that both Doom and Savage are much better than Luthor, with his ‘Metropolis values.’
luagha (761ad7) — 4/1/2016 @ 11:19 amTrump supporters are proof that the behavioral economists are right. People make emotional decisions and then work to justify those emotional decisions. Trump cultists have made the emotional decision. They are still struggling to figure out how to justify it. And as the Donald keeps demonstrating his unfitness for office, their devotion and anger keep growing. The behaviorists tell us that reading or hearing information that challenges beliefs actually causes believers to become even stronger in their belief. Trump cultists have been proving it to us for months.

If it’s going to happen, I’d say no later than August 3rd, 2016. The Finns and Swedes, those who still hunt, would have a decisive advantage once the snow falls and the winter sets in. Assuming, of course, that there are still a few thousand males left in Scandinavia. Five thousand Finns were enough to slaughter 36,000 Soviets and force Stalin to agree to a peace that fell somewhat short of his initial goals in 1939/40. (n. b.: Liberals and Rand Paul followers, you will be surprised to learn that Soviet Russia was an ally of Nazi Germany in those days, and even helped the Nazi’s overrun Poland. Finland was on Stalin’s bucket list.) There are probably 5,0000 jihadis in Scandinavia, so it will take more than the Malmo customs agents to prevent them from overthrowing the Swedish government. It all depends upon what the muslims think. One thousand males in Scandinavia: wait. Five thousand males in Scandinavia: strike now, winter will be worse. Which is simply a recognition that there are significant tactical advantages to jumping off sometime between now and August if you are a Mediterranean-based invader.
How the world turns. A millennia ago, the Vikings were settling America and raising hell in the Mediterranean.

But they had gotten the women from their own neighborhood. Which brings us to the question, “What is there about the Scandinavian countries that’s worth a hoot other than their women?” What have they contributed to Western civilization? Now, they’ve gotten too soft and self-indulgent to even be competent barbarians. They would benefit from a fresh infusion of barbarian genes.

SPQR (a3a747) — 4/2/2016 @ 7:06 amMark, the three presidents before the civil war were TERRIBLE.
If you’re singling them out as the impetus behind the Civil War, then one can make the connection that the current occupant of the White House is the impetus behind the turmoil of dynamics like “Blacks Lives Matter” and an increasingly debased, corrupt socio-political scene.
The idealism of the American experiment may have seemed like a joke and nuisance to some people (particular in the south) before the late 1800s, now it seems like a joke and nuisance to even more people (eg, the typical college elite and cultural trend setters on both coasts) far beyond the borders of what was once the Confederacy.

I can see where SPQR wants to talk about the squirrel.

SPQR –
I am addressing the coverage of the Michelle Field claims, which seem to be suspect, but have received such enormous support from the anti-Trump group. I offered the links as another viewpoint, the last one being sarcastic. Didn’t mean to offend any sensitivities, but the hyper-focus on this event seems silly to me from beginning to end.
I wasn’t trying to point out Trump lies, or Cruz lies, or RINO lies, or Hillary lies, or Obama lies. SPQR, as the representative of the ancient Roman standards of truth, justice, and the Roman way of dealing with liars, which lies specifically are you wanting me to address?

xsssx (400756) — 4/2/2016 @ 10:38 amTrumpaesque. Attacking the victim with things that have nothing to do with the case. Smoke and bluster. To hide the facts. SOP for Trumpadillos.

Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 4/2/2016 @ 10:52 amXsssx, so the shift from “didn’t touch her” to “saved me from assassination attempt” gets a pass from you.
Typical of Trump fans.

I wasn’t hiding facts. Merely introducing additional information. Maybe it’s all made up. Maybe not. And since this is not a court of law, but just an opinion forum, people can take it or leave it. What is revealing is how someone reacts when offered a differing point of view.
xsssx (400756) — 4/2/2016 @ 11:21 amSPQR – #129
No, it doesn’t get a pass from me. I think Trump is defending someone and being idiotic about it. AND I think Ms. Fields is being idiotic about her claims as well. I am offering another view at her claim of battery. It may be within the legal definition of battery, but the whole issue seems now a pursuit to defame a campaign worker; so that the actual target gets smeared as well. Hope you never bump into someone, because that’s a legal battery offense—at least one that could be charged, regardless of how stupid it may be. But that’s our so-called justice system, and it’s a joke, no matter what your lawyer buddies tell you.
xsssx (400756) — 4/2/2016 @ 11:37 amxsssx, Trump is not being just idiotic. He is being dishonest. But you want to focus on the credibility of the person that is _not_ running for President. AFTER they have admitted that Lewandowski _did_ touch her after flat out lying before.
And for your information, I don’t merely have lawyer buddies. I iz one.
SPQR (a3a747) — 4/2/2016 @ 11:55 am@ xsssx, who wrote (#131):
The system today is the same one that existed three weeks ago. Were you posting, here or elsewhere, arguing for criminal justice reform of the battery laws?
Look, you’re going through something that every law student goes through about three or four weeks into the first semester of the first year of law school, xsssx — an eye-opening experience about the extent to which the system depends on both the literal words of the statutes and on a system of expectations and morals which surround it. Of course there are many, many, many small transgressions — batteries, trespasses, even petty thefts (those extra catsup packets you lifted) — which can, should, and do go uncomplained of and unprosecuted. What you’re witnessing now, with the Lewandowski battery charge, is a particular situation where the system is working normally, but the defendant and his employer have done everything possible to blow it up into a national media sensation and a tiny (but very real and formal) misdemeanor criminal charge.
Don’t blame society or the justice system. Blame the particular abusers — Trump & Lewandowski.
Beldar (fa637a) — 4/2/2016 @ 12:21 pmYeah its so frivolous to be grabbed illegally and be injured.
And LOVE that “debunked” video. The SS agents were so worried about her, they didn’t do a think, but the campaign manager did!
Trump is such a train wreck, oh my goodness. Takes a special snowflake to be afraid of a little ol female reporter with a pen.
Patrick Henry, the 2nd (ddead1) — 4/2/2016 @ 12:57 pmYou mean like Trump and his acolytes completely smeared Fields when all she wanted was an apology?
Blame the system all you want, but Trump and Cory and Breitbart and plenty of others escalated this.
It should’ve been nothing, but because of their stubbornness, is now everything.
Patrick Henry, the 2nd (ddead1) — 4/2/2016 @ 1:00 pmNah, It’s still a nothing, and for Fields to be smeared.

It should be really clear by now that the Trumpist strategy is a full-court, every venue, maximum BS defense of this, followed by “boy this sure is a lot of trouble over a minor incident.”
In the end, they hope that nobody can tell who the lying assholes are amid all the noise. And of course, we will have Kasich backing Trump’s play with “Can’t we stop this bickering?”

papertiger (c2d6da) — 4/2/2016 @ 7:47 pmIt’s the same spirit of fraud that informs a clowder of boneheads that a candidate shopping nude photos of his opponent’s wife to every truck stop in Utah is somehow fair game and innocent, while insisting that comparing a cover girl born under the oppression of European communism, with Stifler’s Mom is an unforgivable faux pas.
papertiger (c2d6da) — 4/2/2016 @ 8:07 pmYou mean “under the covers” girl. You got any pictures of Melania on the cover of a magazine, or even in the pages of a magazine, before she hooked up with Trump? At best, those “models” are arm candy for rich, old sugardaddies, willing to grant additional affection for sufficient consideration. Maybe cash, maybe nice “gifts”. I know one personally, but not closely. She is generally labeled as an “exotic dancer” and sometimes “courtesan”.
