Fitness update

Either I am the most out-of-shape person on the entire planet, or Ubisoft’s “Your Shape – Fitness Evolved” for the Xbox 360 (Kinect required) is brutal.

Also, backwards lunges can fuck right off.

I’ll give a real, almost completely profanity-free review if folks would like…

    I really liked Yourself Fitness (I had it for PS2). I hated EA’s Kinetic, which used the PS2’s camera to track your motion through the fitness routines. It’s basically the same idea as the Kinect and Your Shape, only it just plain didn’t work.

    Right now I have P90X videos on my PS3, but I screwed up my knee on the plyometrics, so I’m resorting to my wife’s Wii Fit+. Neither of them really are tracking me. I know the Wii claims to, but it’s just not that precise. It thinks I am a “Yoga Master” but I can barely stand on one foot.

    This really is the one thing the PS3 can’t touch. for games, I want a controller, but for fitness, I hate holding some expensive plastic crap I’m going to sweat all over.

  2. After my upper legs recover (seriously, F*CK backwards lunges) I’ll do some more with the different workouts. I’ll even punish myself and give one or two of the advance sets a try.

    What, exactly, can’t you do with your knee? Some of this stuff is pretty “bend” intensive, but there’s cardio too that really did start me sweating…

  3. ME, I ride an exercise bike for an hour a day, sometimes I even turn on the thingy that displays how close to death I am

    Get those 7.77 dollar gols gym sauna suites from Walmart, you will work up a sweat opening a beer

    That kind of thing can hurt, but I deal with it.

    The Plyometrics routine involved a lot of rough jumping, and after a session where my ego pushed me too far, my knee loudly clicks and hurts if I change elevation when running, or descend stairs (I can climb stairs fine).

    I have a little band that goes under the knee cap that relieves the problem, but my solution is to just take it easy on that knee for a long time. Honestly, I think that part of P90X is not worth the injury risk. The rest of it is really good, but it is no replacement for a computer that accurately complains about your form.

    I think EPWJ’s idea sounds nice.

  5. Well, if you can jog in place and do squats, I think most of this should be fine for you.

    I’ll get back at Your Shape after tonight when I play the last DLC for Mass Effect 2.
