The Jury Talks Back

Buy a Ford

Looking for an American car to help out the economy, but don’t want to buy junk or support companies on the dole?

Buy a Ford.

Unlike Chrysler, which is hopeless, or GM which hasn’t quite got its act together (and maybe never will), Ford has has innovative, fuel efficient, cars in showrooms NOW.

Want an SUV that gets decent mileage?  The Escape Hybrid actually gets 31 MPG in Los Angeles city driving — I know, I’ve been driving a 2009 Escape Hybrid for 6 months and that’s my actual number.  You can actually roll down city streets at 40MPH on the battery alone.

(Note: For looking at hybrids the “max-speed-on-battery” is an important number, as any hybrid owner will attest.)

Want a family sedan that gets over 40MPG in LA traffic?  The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid does that now.  And it will cruise at up to 47MPH (level ground) on battery alone.  As Car & Driver says:

The first thing you need to know about the 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid is that it’s the best mid-size hybrid sedan on the market. Yes, that’s right: it wipes the floor with the Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Both vehicles sell for less than $30K.  Maybe much less if you can drive a deal.  And they don’t look like stinkbugs.

And the best part?  Ford declines the government’s kind offers of “free money.”  They make cars the old fashioned way: capitalism.
