cvproj - I learned the use of the word "niggardly" in Primary School - it wasn't in common use in any professional sense that I know of back then - it was simply used as part of English language usage ...

Ironically, I did learn "niggardly" as an ethnic slur of a kind ... it compares the (usually) person so described to member of a Scandinavian tribe - the Nigg (or Nygg) - who were notorious for their lack of hospitality, a major fault in olden times ... (my recollection is from somewhere around the southern coast of Sweden, but I cannot find an immediate Google corroboration) ...

Still, cvproj, if you prefer to be an apologist for The One, far be it from any of us to discourage you ...

Jury Members - should the Hero directory be called an example of an "Obama-ism" or a "The One -ism" ???

Let's see...

I commented that a website directory containing photographs was named using a term that is in common use in the photographic and visual arts professions, and thus is probably not a political statement.

In response, "Alasdair" tries to compare that to another photo directory named using a term that, as far as I know, is not in common use in any profession related to photography or website design.

Having fun building that strawman, "Alasdair"?

cvproj - so when some conservative site sets up a folder with pictures of Obama praising things of which conservatives approve, and they call the folder conblog\Obama\niggardly *you* will of course be among the first to point out that given that Obama's praise of such things is niggardly praise, as an issue, it will be a non-starter - since "niggardly" means in a mean/cheap/penurious/ungenerous fashion, right ?

[...] why should the MSM criticise Obama for his anti-life votes? After all, he’s a hero. Scott Jacobs points us to a disturbing feature of whitehouse.gov; all of the files with Obama’s name on them are in a “hero” directory. Now, as [...]

Uh, guys? Look up the definition of "hero shot", as it applies to photography. Then look up the definition of "hero" as used by the movie industry in reference to a model, prop or costume. In both cases, it means "the best available"; the cleanest, the most detailed.

Much as I despise defending those idiots in Washington, in this case there is a simple explanation - whoever set up the directory structure for the website probably has a background in photography or moviemaking, and used a term that he was familiar with.

As an issue, this one is a non-starter. Sorry.
