There’s an old Ray Bradbury story (“The Pedestrian“) about a guy hauled off by the cops for walking in Los Angeles (Youtube version).

First they came for the pedestrians, but, I was unconcerned, for I don’t walk anywhere;
Then they came for the bicyclists, but I don’t own a bike;…..

OT: Just after the O.J. verdict, Fred Dryer reprised his role as “Hunter” in a TV movie titled “Everybody Walks in L.A.”
Says it all.

I lived in LA for a couple of years and it never ceased to amaze me how people would rather spend 7 minutes driving to a location and 8 minutes looking for a parking space than they would spend 15 minutes walking to the exact same spot — even if the place they were driving to was the gym (to use the treadmill, natch). Strange, strange place.
