Open Thread: Trump and Biden Dueling Town Halls

Filed under: General — Dana @ 4:53 pm

[guest post by Dana]

Here we go!

About the dueling town halls:

They were scheduled after the Commission on Presidential Debates canceled Thursday night’s planned town hall-style debate between Biden and Trump in the wake of Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis. The commission sought to shift that debate to a virtual format; Trump rejected the change.

In this corner, Donald “Glow” Trump on NBC!

In the opposite corner, Jumpin’ Joe Biden on ABC!

Have your adult beverage of choice ready, because if you’re watching either of these town halls or especially if you’re bouncing between the two, you’ll need it! Maybe even make it a double.

  5. I’m going to be watching Biden. Based on current campaigning strategy Trump is not going to say anything useful. I don’t need to watch him bloviate.

  6. Channel flip– who is George Woodward and why is Biden sitting down in an easy chair?

  7. Trump looks strong; confident. Biden appears befuddled; leaning back.. slurring words. Show America your brain surgery scars, Joe.

NBC actors, producers protest network’s decision to air Trump town hall tonight at same time as Biden’s on ABC. They want you to know that, ‘This is not a partisan issue. This is about the political health of our democracy.’ OK.

So none of them have DVRs? Or YouTube? Or Google? Or any form of social media where there will almost certainly be links to where they can watch both shows afterwards?

What century are they living in?

So wait, they’re *okay* with us deciding who becomes President, but we can’t decide for ourselves which channel to watch?

  11. The heck with the basement, under his makeup Biden looks like he’s had a bit too much sun.

q.1 covid. The answer is one we’ve heard before about what he would’ve done and how Trump failed and what he’d do in the future. Stephanopolous asked a couple of follow-up questions that were Biden handled reasonably. The person who asked the question (dem) seemed satisfied.

    2. Covid again, questioner is an R. Would you take a vaccine and mandate it? Biden is doing a good job at connecting with the questioner. He’d take it, whether or not he tried to get it mandated by the states depends, but if it’s a good vaccine, he’d push for the states to do so. Also talks about the influence of the bully pulpit.

    3. Tax question. Questioner is a Republican for Trump. How will you reduce my taxes if you roll back the Trump tax cuts. Corporate taxes back to 28% and taxes 400,000. Stephopolous follows up with is it wise to raise anyone’s taxes. Biden refers to an independent analysis of his tax plan saying it will make things better, grow the economy, talks about the extra money various really rich people made during the epidemic. Morphs to green job plan and made in America, trade. Says he’s not into executive orders, would rather get the votes. He does a good job connecting with the questioner on this one too.

So far. Looks OK, but obviously an old man. Delivery is a little rough, but so far has commands of the topics. Tone goes back and forth between definitive and “please understand what I’m talking about here.”

  14. I want to remind everyone that the AVERAGE IQ is 100. Fully 48% of American adults have IQs between 70 and 100. 68% have IQs between 85 and 115. Trump is well aware of these facts. Nuance is not a winning strategy.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  19. Any questions about Hunter yet?

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  20. Covid relief: Trump wants a deal; Nancy doesn’t want checks going out w/Trump’s name on them before the election. Points to Trump on that one.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  21. brain-surgery scars.

Mine are two-and-a-half months shy of nine years old, and they have already smoothed out considerably. Even the bone.

    nk (1d9030)

  22. Trump lies and says he doesn’t remember whether he was tested before the first debate.

He also lies and says he doesn’t remember when his last negative test before the positive one was.

They should ask if he agrees to have his doctor release that information and watch him flail.

    Dave (1bb933)

  23. @12.Sunburn????? In a basement bunker???

  24. “Cops are like school teachers now.”

    O.M.G.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  25. 4. Progressive democrat (youngish African American). Questioner is not impressed. Why should liberals bother for you when you are some moderate unimpressive dude and the system sucks. What can you do to convince me. Talks about making the criminal justice system and generational wealth gaps. Education (title 1), universal preschool, dropout rates, mental health in schools. HBCUs. Home ownerships, first term home buyers. Government money and venture captial for AA entrepreneurs. Questioner was not impressed at all until Biden talked a little bit about social justice and financial inequality. He wanted a social justice answer and Joe gave him a practical process answer.

    5. R who had voted for Trump last time. Older white lady. Talk about the 90s crime bill. Somethings with it turned out well, some things turned out not to have been beneficial. Talked about support by black mayors, treatment instead of jail for drugs. Said the fed part of the bill was OK, but the state level screwed up tapdance tapdance. Lady is not super happy with him, I can’t tell if it’s because she wanted to here something different or because it was a gotcha and he didn’t screw it up enough. Talks about law-enforcement, stephanopolous asks do you really want MORE police. Yep. Community policing works. Stephanoplous no, but really, how do you make it better. Change the training and delivery model. Social workers, community involved. Cops don’t like bad cops (Lady liked that a lot). talked about how to deal with bad cops. Talks about descalation (lady found that interesting). Crime vs. mental illness (lady liked that too).

    Nic (896fdf)

  26. Trump is already getting hostile with the questioner, calling her “cute”.

    Dave (1bb933)

  27. Biden is having a great night. GS has pushed back reasonably and JB parried well and easily. He sounds presidential and in command of facts.

The public questioners have asked relevant questions.

This is about as good as a Townhall format can be, given the various pressures of a presidential campaign and the limitations of network TV.

He is the clear winner when it comes to who more benefitted from the cancellation of the joint appearance.

    @19 Nope, not yet.

@23 Apparently the basement might be a bit of an exaggeration.

@24 No, it was a good answer about how people are required to have far wider knowledge than they should need to do their job.

    Nic (896fdf)

  33. @27 DCSCA – From what I am reading, the NBC deal is an inquisition and not a town hall.

  36. Trump refuses to denounce QAnon, OR defend retweeting their conspiracy theory about Seal Team Six:

In a heated exchange with NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie during Thursday night’s town hall, President Trump once again refused to denounce the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Guthrie asked Trump if he could state that the conspiracy — centered around the belief Democrats run a satanic pedophile ring and that Trump is an anti-pedophilic savior — was not true.

Trump responded, “I know nothing about QAnon.”

“I just told you,” Guthrie said.

Trump fired back, saying, “What you tell me doesn’t necessarily make it fact.”

The President claimed that all he knows about the conspiracy theory movement, which has had a prevalent presence at his campaign rallies, is that “they are very much against pedophelia” and that he agrees with that sentiment.

The President also tried to separate himself from his recent retweet of a conspiracy theory from an account linked to QAnon, which baselessly claimed that former Vice President Joe Biden orchestrated to have Seal Team Six killed to cover up the fake death of Osama bin Laden.

“I know nothing about it,” Trump claimed. “That was a retweet — that was an opinion of somebody. And that was a retweet. I’ll put it out there. People can decide for themselves.”

But Guthrie responded, “I don’t get that. You’re the President. You’re not like someone’s crazy uncle who can retweet whatever.”

    LOL

  37. “I’m open to considering what happens from that point on.” JB

The “point on” being the disposition of the Barrett nomination.

    Ed from SFV (f64387)

  38. Will Trump ask for Steve Scully to take over before the night is done?

    Dave (1bb933)

  39. This is a great demonstration of something I have been discussing with my sons. Most people in this country inexplicably believe in “good” versus “bad.” Just look at the MSM.

The truth is that our choices are “crappy” and “slightly less crappy.”

I would love love love to hear cheerleaders admit this, instead of carrying on about angels and demons.

I don’t know how the heck we can get proper leaders in this nation. I doubt that the MSM will let us.

    My head hurts.

  40. 6. (missed the political affiliation, white dude. Gay?) Supreme court question. ACB, changing the way the appointments happen, court packing? Technically this is fine by constitution, but Biden thinks it doesn’t follow the spirit (this is a tapdance). Stephanoplous: Court packing? IDK, lets talk about now, but it hasn’t really been my thing and it would just cause escalation. Steph: So not a fan? Nope, not a fan. Steph: process question, do you want to expand. Biden hopes the process is fair but isn’t going to be 100% definite while he watches the process, he’ll tell us at some point before the election (probably waiting to see what the public thinks about the process).

    7. Disaffected Republican, doesn’t plan to vote for Trump (older middle aged white dude). Dad was in gov. Biden has met dad. Middle-aged/older white dude. Do you plan to escalate things if you are pres? You have to be willing to work with everyone and not go around insulting people. Direct commmunication even with people who disagree with you. Trump is vindictive and sucks. Biden talks about cancer bill he worked on with Rs (questioner liked most of this a lot). Steph: Political accountability for the last admin? Biden, DOJ should be independent.

    Nic (896fdf)

  41. An hour in–no questions on Hunter.

Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie… or Gunsmoke.

    Choose.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  43. Trump: I haven’t released my tax returns because the IRS was mean to me:

“I’m treated very badly by the IRS. They treat me very, very badly. You have people in there from previous administrations. They treat me very badly. But we’re under audit. It’s very routine in many ways. But we’re under audit. They like to change the game, change the rules, do everything,” Trump said at NBC’s town hall.

    Dave (1bb933)

  44. Final Q from the son of Reagan’s Transportation Secretary infuriated me.

He wanted to know how Biden would not hold grudges and would lead in unity.

That tool askes the man who came up with the Logan Act to help launch what amounted to a soft coup against the duly elected president?!

    Shameful.

But, the bottom line, again, is that Biden spoke presidentially and was fully coherent. Reassuring, even.

  45. “I do not propose banning fracking.” – Joe Biden

    That. Is. A. LIE.

    Dave (1bb933)

  47. @44. That’s absurd. The Biden is literally sitting on a stage getting asked one question at a time from one person in the room– like a kid telling Santa what he wans for Christmas.

  51. 8. Older black lady, says R, but has been swing voter. Fracking sucks, what will you do? Green jobs in SW Penn? Isn’t going to ban fracking but will regulate it. Renewals are cheap and growing jobs. Cap abandoned wells jobs. Carbon capture for net zero emissions while using fossil fuels. Green energy is jobs. Energy infrastructure. Weather proofing jobs. Stephanopolous: But this dude said we need fracking. Thoughts? Biden I am not going to answer the question, I’m going to talk about oil subsidies. Stephanopolous: Green new deal? Biden, their goals aren’t practical, we can do better, but they weren’t realistic. Heres how I want to make things better, but fossil fuels will not be gone by 2030. General envi. chatter. gas mileage needs to be better. Jobs jobs. Questioner liked some of it, didn’t like others, was clearly trying very hard for face-neutral, so only small expression changes.

  52. @30. Biden would hug you; Trump might ask you for your number.

  53. Sure enough, Luntz’ focus group says that the more DJT speaks, the worse he looks.

    Biden won this night.

Perception is all. Biden got asway with outrageous lies and enjoyed a genial host. DJT was in a hostile zone and forced to confront lies about himself.

He was a damn fool to seek, or agree to, this appearance.

On no- Beau! Yet still no questions about Hunter.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  65. DJT did a real town hall. Biden is playing Santa Claus.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  66. 9. Conservative 2016 Trump voter. Trump does these good things with foreign policy, do you want to say good things about that? Nope. The overall picture sucks. Israel deal was good, but the overall pic sucks. The world thinks other countries are better world leaders, not us. Nato policy has been been an issue. Trump loves dictators. No coherent plan for foreign policy. Goes off into political theory re being a good example. Foreign policy should focus on status of country not president.

    10. Youngish woman. Immigrant. Transgender question. Eliminate Trumps sucky exec orders. Story about dad accepting gay people. Not a choice. Trans black women being murdered. Should not be discrimination. Questioner really liked a lot of it. Biden shoveled a couple of random talking points into his answer pretty obviously due to really choppy transitions.

    Nic (896fdf)

  67. I’m’ so glad I’ve lived the bulk of my life when America was truly great.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  68. @60 DCSCA DJT beat HRC because the undecideds broke heavily for him in the last two weeks. I believe it was because HRC really was incredibly unattractive in several regards. Trump is rightly on a jihad now with the Deep State running out the clock on Russiagate, the debate commission, and the proof that Biden himself benefited directly from his son’s deals.

What did the Luntz’ squishes walk away with? A negative reaction to Trump’s righteous heat and a positive reaction to the gentile Biden.

If the Dems do not overplay their hand on ACB, I just do not see DJT mustering enough support to overcome the current deficits in support nor the all-but-guaranteed ballot counting fiascos and corruptions.

    Ed from SFV (f64387)

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  71. 11. Dem, middle aged black dude. If you lose, will to continue advocate for these issues in the public eye or just go away? I’m going to teach and run my institute. Story about how he didn’t know anything about race and then learned. Humble about race knowledge in the past (questioner liked that), but doing better now. Talked about the importance of diversity, unity (questioner like the answer a lot.) Stephanopolous but if you lose, doesn’t it mean the country sucks? Biden- could be a bad candidate, but hopes it doesn’t mean people want to be divided. I really want to unify people. Be president for all American.

    Nic (896fdf)

    beer ‘n pretzels (042d67)

  80. Prediction stands: Trump squeak out a win by 3 points or a President Harris within 24 months.

Biden is irrelevant; in just 35 days, Joe Biden will turn 78 years old.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  81. Wrap up. Stephanopolous. Next debate? Is it happening? Testing? Yep testing, Trump sucks, I make sure my tests are good because I care about the people around me. I think Trump will test too, but commission will decide. I’ll happily show up for anything and follow the commission’s rules.

My summary: Questions covered a wide range of topics. A lot of the answers were the basic campaign answers, some were more spontaneous. Answers carried a lot of information. The delivery itself was slightly better than mediocre, but very focused on being personally oriented to the questioner, which was a good look. His topical focus was practical answers and jobs, which was frustrating for some of the questioners and stephanopolous who wanted more theory answers and his were practical instead. Stephanopolous wanted to talk more about Trump (fight!fight!), but Biden mostly stayed away from that. He was mostly talking directly to moderate voters and possible swing Rs.

I think this was a net positive for Biden. He didn’t look bad, good physical shape, he was focused and topical and kept to his plan for the evening despite some pushes in other directions. He talked to his intended audience, but didn’t leave his other voters wanting. There were negatives in some tip-of-the-tongue issues and delivery problems, but nothing that was a game changer. So, I would say that he might have gained some votes and didn’t lose any.

    Nic (896fdf)

  82. Yes, I also think either Trump or Biden will win this election.

    nk (1d9030)

  83. @82. Keep your eye on the ball, nk; it’s a win/win: the objective is to neuter the modern ideological conservative movement.

    DCSCA (797bc0) — 10/15/2020 @ 5:48 pm

That is a very troubling quote from Biden. How it turns out? How it’s handled? Either ACB is confirmed or she isn’t. So, if she’s not confirmed, Biden won’t pack the court. If she is confirmed, he will. How can this be interpreted any other way?

Biden is not getting my vote. It’s not just the court issue, either. He will make government more authoritarian. It’s just his nature.

My only decision is whether to vote for Trump or a third party candidate.

    norcal (a5428a)

    nk (1d9030)

  89. @87 It was definitely a weasel answer, but not in the direction you think it was. He’s not going to pack the court. The bit about ACB was that as long as they use regular process he’s fine with it, whether she is or is not confirmed. They are using regular process.

    Nic (896fdf)

  90. @89. Is a weasel a Swamp Creature? 😉

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  91. So, if she’s not confirmed, Biden won’t pack the court. If she is confirmed, he will. How can this be interpreted any other way?

By not attributing words to Biden that he didn’t say?

He specifically said the issue is not whether Barrett is confirmed, but whether it is rushed through without what he considers adequate debate.

He also explains that adding justices starts a cycle of instability from which there would be no escape. And he mentions unspecified reforms to lifetime appointments that could be possible.

  107. White House was warned Giuliani was target of Russian intelligence operation to feed misinformation to Trump

U.S. intelligence agencies warned the White House last year that President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani was the target of an influence operation by Russian intelligence, according to four former officials familiar with the matter.

The warnings were based on multiple sources, including intercepted communications, that showed Giuliani was interacting with people tied to Russian intelligence during a December 2019 trip to Ukraine, where he was gathering information that he thought would expose corrupt acts by former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

The intelligence raised concerns that Giuliani was being used to feed Russian misinformation to the president, the former officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information and conversations.

The warnings to the White House, which have not been previously reported, led national security adviser Robert O’Brien to caution Trump in a private conversation that any information Giuliani brought back from Ukraine should be considered contaminated by Russia, one of the former officials said.

  122. A word on herd immunity, which is what Dr. Atlas has been backdoor pushing and Trump has been tacitly endorsing:

Coronaviruses in general tend not to provoke lasting immunity (years), and SARS-CoV-2 may be no different. One recent study published in The Lancet, for example, found that, if you standardize to the general US population, about 9.3% of people have antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. There were regional differences that follow the density of COVID cases, with the highest regional percentage being about 25% in the Northeast (and about 35% in NY state). This number is about 10 times the number of confirmed COVID cases, so many people are being exposed to the virus without ever being diagnosed (whether or not they develop symptoms).
This number is low compared to what is needed for herd immunity, which varies from 50-90% depending on the virus. Even for the low end of the spectrum, we would need five times as many people exposed as we have now. That would probably mean about 1 million Americans dead just to reach the low end of the herd immunity range. That number could easily have to double, as COVID is highly contagious.

Since June 1st, 113,000 Americans have died and Trump is responsible for most of them. He is guilty of mass negligent homicide. If Trump is elected and goes along with Dr. Atlas, he’ll be responsible for over 1 million dead Americans. But hey, it’s not as bad as Pol Pot and the dead Americans are probably losers anyway, unable to survive the flu that he came through with flying colors.

    Blinded by Scientism

Well worth a read. Here is an excerpt:

Scientism is an attempt to shut down political debates. It shifts the discussion from questions of value, which are accessible to all, to questions of facts which are in the domain of the experts, thus shifting the terrain of the debate. It also hampers the evolution of expert consensus, because when science becomes a front for politics, dissenting from the party lines becomes harder even for experts. And it allows progressives to portray their opponents as ignorant. That has been a common trope of progressive politics: conservatives are the stupid party.

From what I’ve read, Trump refused to denounce Qanon conspiracy theories and wouldn’t say when he first tested positive for Covid-19. This surprises anyone? I think the whole thing was faked. Either he is seriously ill or it was all staged, like a bad Reality TV show.

One doesn’t contract Covid-19, get helicoptered to Walter Reed (for the second time), take a concoction of experimental and unapproved drugs, then walk out in a week looking like Superman. Seriously? Anyone who believes that is a fool. And he did want to walk out of Walter Reed wearing a Superman t-shirt. No one can take this clown man seriously. He’s a joke. Orange turned bronze make-up all over his face (notice the lighter rings around his eyes), a bad toupee on his bald head (notice how it’s gotten more grey than blonde), this guy is a laughing stock of a man.

Badly in debt, to the tune of over $420 million, owed to who knows who, this guy is a complete failure as a man, and as a president. Paying off prostitutes? Buying favors from rich donors? This guy is a total joke of a president, and he is a complete failure as a man.

Everything about him is a fraud. How many of the people around him, that he brought in to his administration, have been indicted, convicted and sentenced for fraud? Practically every one of them.

So it doesn’t matter anymore. Yeah, the Biden family has their problems, which they will have to address, but nothing like the Trump family.

I didn’t watch these town halls, because I don’t care. I’ve already made up my mind. I’m voting against everything Trump. This will be the first election in which I didn’t support the Republican. And I’m talking about city, county, state, and federal levels here. The Republican party has lost all my confidence and support. Not that the Democratic party has gained mine, but it is a question of alternatives. I’m voting Libertarian, even though I don’t particularly care for the candidate.

    So be it.

    Gawain's Ghost (b25cd1)

  150. Not that the Democratic party has gained mine, but it is a question of alternatives

It IS a question of alternatives, but the alternative the modern Democrats afford is a fairly unpalatable one. I won’t vote for Trump — and I have passed on GOP candidates before — but I believe that the best path out of this mess is a reconstituted GOP built out of the wreckage that Trump has left.

The test of the Republicans will be how they move forward. Not necessarily a status quo ante — Trump completely blew up the old coalition that Reagan built — but some melding of the past with corrections to the flaws Trump exploited.

So, down-ticket, I will be voting for the rank&file Republicans, preferring to see them as rational rather than Trumpian zealots (and having some confidence that the latter will lose anyway).

But if the best argument these frankly intense Trump fans have for voting Trump is some political correctness scare on twitter, some outrage theater on both sides, that is not going to win a single vote.

Trump promised a booming economy, a wall, a balanced budget, “such great deals” between parties, and Trump was tested plenty by crisis. We know he sucks at being president. Remember, guys who tell you this will also tell you they were never ever trump supporters. Never supported him, nope.

Remember, guys who tell you this believe Russiagate was real, Trump faked being sick, and are really hoping for gossip telling them what they want to hear.

How many times you going to tell this lie?

    Still not voting for him.

Also still not making obtuse statements about how the Twitter and Facebook censorship yesterday was based on perceived upcoming election results (as our host did) without a shred of self-awareness.

Keep lying bro, hope it makes you feel better.

  167. And once again for people who actually listen.

I didn’t (and won’t) vote for Trump because IMO he’s unfit for office, same reason I didn’t vote for Hillary.

The point I’m making is that you need to look at what the Dems (with only the House) and the media are doing and ask yourself how putting them in charge of the Executive Branch will make things better.

Kinda simple but for some reason it creates enough rage for the broken to veer off the path of truth.

  168. Trump made the best promises I’ve ever heard!

My personal favorite was when he said he could pay down the national debt in eight years by negotiating better trade deals. That’s some “only I can fix it” genius there.

If Twitter blocked everyone for “false info”, then Trump would be gone too.

  171. It’s impossible to keep up, BNP. I never feel like I fully understand these schemes, there are so many muddy theories about every single Trump whistleblower or opponent. It’s intentional and it keeps people cemented in their own biases.

And it keeps us from asking the real questions. Which is more important: Turkey possessing American nuclear weapons, the US deficit, or the date Hunter Biden’s meth pipe was photographed?

    Dustin (4237e0)

  172. @131 you’re welcome!

That’s just the one post. Basically everything Trump posts is “false info.”

    Rip Murdock (3decd7)

  174. And it keeps us from asking the real questions. Which is more important: Turkey possessing American nuclear weapons, the US deficit, or the date Hunter Biden’s meth pipe was photographed?

Obviously, whether Trump peed on a bed in Moscow.

We’ve been asking such important questions for four years now. Why change it up?

  175. @161

I sure hope Trump’s surveillance of Biden’s campaign is kicking into high gear.

    beer ‘n pretzels (042d67) — 10/16/2020 @ 9:24 am

    I don’t.

Unless there’s are REALLY REALLY good predicate.

However, I’m sure Biden’s family (those not in the campaign) are likely under intelligence surveillance.

  177. @149. Davey, those are incredibly piss-poor numbers for a prime time network and network/cable carry. ‘Course the online numbers aren’t truly in the overnights but regardless, the thumbnails should tell you– and any TeeVee exec, the mindset o/t electorate three weeks out; they’re decided and done w/both theses reruns.

Fair enough, but I’m really interested in this subject and I had zero interest in watching. I’m surprised Trump didn’t do better, but it’s not interesting to be a crazy idiot forever. That kind of thing wears thin after a few years.

  182. @181. You fit the profile. Political programming has reached saturation point. And these days w/so many platforms, colorized Gilligan’s Island and I Dream of Jeannie reruns can get draw similar numbers– [hard not to admire Dawn Wells in short-shorts or Barbara Eden in a miniskirt.] Audiences are ready to move on.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  183. Obviously, whether Trump peed on a bed in Moscow.

Another thing only Trump fans are really talking about, though I personally believe Putin did have some kind of dirt on Trump, and it probably relates to Trump’s support of Epstein and Ghilsaine, as well as his attempt to sabotage the US Attorney involved in that case.

The real issues I mentioned are the things you just ignored. The only possible case for Trump’s re-election has to be contained in the stuff you don’t even want to think about it bugs ya so much. All this yakkity yak about the family of his opponents and crying about what a victim the bully is are a distraction. Activists might love to roll around in whether Heidi is ugly. The voters view it as a distraction.

Trump lies and says he doesn’t remember whether he was tested before the first debate.

You would think that, even if he didn’t remember it at the time, the White House doctors kept records, and he would know by now.

Savannah Guthrie I think suggested that maybe he had violated ther rules for the first debate by not testing on the same day.

He also lies and says he doesn’t remember when his last negative test before the positive one was.

That’s the same thing. All tests before October 1 were negative. Trump did say it wasn’t every day that he was tested.

Covid relief: Trump wants a deal; Nancy doesn’t want checks going out w/Trump’s name on them before the election. Points to Trump on that one.

No, Nancy wants something included that won;t stand the light of day. It’s probably not even money for state and local governments – if she thinks Biden would win, and the Senate turn Democratic, she could get that in three or four months and if Biden doesn’t win, how is she better off by not giving people economic help?

Now the Senate Republicans also want liability protection for businesses from lawsuits alleging they gave people Covid and without that there;s probably not the votes for anything but a small stimulus right now.

    Sammy Finkelman (4eddd7)

  194. ‘I’m not a fan but it depends on how this turns out and how it’s handled.’

That sounds like he’s saying he’s for adding seats to the court if Barrett is confirmed.
