Response to the Presidential Visits to Dayton and El Paso

Filed under: Politics — DRJ @ 1:31 pm

[Headlines from DRJ]

As both cities begin burying the people killed in last week’s shootings, Trump lashes out at NYT reporter over Dayton, El Paso coverage:

President Trump lashed out at New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman early Saturday, claiming that the veteran journalist had misrepresented his trips to Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, this week to meet with people affected by last week’s mass shootings there.

“Maggie Haberman of the Failing @nytimes reported that I was annoyed by the lack of cameras inside the hospitals in Dayton & El Paso, when in fact I was the one who stated, very strongly, that I didn’t want the Fake News inside & told my people NOT to let them in. Fake reporting!” Trump tweeted Saturday morning.

It was an odd end to a week that saw Trump criticized for his “thumbs-up photo with orphaned baby in El Paso” and other moments that led Anthony Scaramucci to say El Paso, Dayton visits were ‘catastrophe’ for Trump and to also “call out WHite House ‘cowards’ for leaking.”

  1. When Trump is finally laid to rest in his coffin, his corpse will flash the “thumbs up” to any cameras nearby. This will continue until the thumbs turn to dust.

  2. This is so pathetic. What, he didn’t know that cameras and reporters are not allowed in visitis to victims? Yet he allowed a picture of him giving a thumbs up over the orphan child whose parents were shot dead because they were supposedly illegal immigrants? No mention of the illegal immigrants he’s hired and given false passports to. No mention of the children he’s separated from their parents.

Deplorable is not the word. Despicable is. This is a president without humanity.

  3. Uh huh. I have an excellent ski resort in Florida that I’d like to sell anyone who believes him.

  4. Trump’s smiling to the camera with a thumbs up–with a smiling Melania by his side, holding the orphaned baby–was bad optics. Obscene, even.

  5. Not surprising, the way the news edits everything he does in the worst possible way,

  6. Not surprising, the way the news edits everything he does in the worst possible way,

The photo literally came from the White House. Reading the links goes a long way.

    Paul Montagu (35419a)

  7. “Obscene, even.”

Reminded me of Romney’s grinning Benghazi press briefing, but even worse.

    Davethulhu (bc6fa6)

  8. Why don’t we read that link to see what the family had to say:

But Tito Anchondo, who described himself and his slain brother as Trump supporters, told the Washington Post in an interview published on Friday that he felt consoled by the president’s visit and denied that Trump was there “pushing any kind of political agenda.”

Anchondo said he chose to take his orphaned nephew, baby Paul, to the hospital to meet the president, and said others were politicizing his family’s tragedy. The infant suffered two broken fingers in the shooting, but had since been discharged by doctors.

And Maggie Halberman and #FakeNews NYT should stop trying to eat the dead.

    nk (dbc370)

  9. From his expression, Mr. Anchondo was pretty okay with Trump being there, but the lady on the far right looked like she’d rather put her head through a wood chipper than be there.

    Paul Montagu (35419a)

  10. The photo is still really, really bad, nk.

And reading further, he gives away the game:

Tito Anchondo declined to discuss what the president and the family discussed, but he told NPR that he wanted to meet Trump and form his own opinions.

“I want to see if he’s genuine and see if my political views are right or wrong, and see if he feels maybe some kind of remorse for statements that he’s made,” he told NPR. “I just want to have a human-to-human talk with him and see how he feels.”

No auténtico Trump supporter would suggest that the Great Leader has anything to feel remorse for. Merely entertaining that possibility makes you the enemy in TrumpWorld.

  12. That poor kiddo is an orphan because of some psycho and we’re all worried about the dumbest thing in the world. Like anyone who isn’t a fool thought Trump or the Times had any character ten years ago, let alone yesterday. Why are we paying attention to their tweets?

    Dustin (6d7686)

  13. To Trump, it was just another “Look how much they love me” moment. That’s what the thumbs-up is about.

    @tictoc

At the Everytown for Gun Safety Presidential Gun Sense Forum, 2020 candidate Joe Biden told reporters “those kids in Parkland came up to see me when I was vice president.”

The only thing wrong is that the Parkland shooting happened in 2018, more than a year after he left office

    harkin (58d012)

  18. Ok, for the sake of argument, Trump’s photo-op could have been better staged.
The Democrats are dancing on the bodies of the dead. Gleefully. Because they think the massacre is to their political advantage. Sh!t like that is why we got Trump.

    nk (dbc370)

  19. The outrage ought to focus on the perpetrators and the Democrats and the media, who – for example – cherry-picked verbiage out of the El Paso mass murderer’s so-called manifesto to further divide the country.

    Wake the fvck up, folks.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  20. Exactly coronello, like the ap and the times insisting the shooter gave his rationale outside of the edited portions of the manifesto.

    Narciso (441918)

  21. Republicans cannot win this game:

Bush circles in helicopter, trying to avoid interfering: “He’s cold!”
Trump visits after a hurricane to help (admittedly in a transparent photo op): “he’s interfering!”
Trump visits hospital: “he’s a publicity hound!”

    Harcourt Fenton Mudd (0c349e)

  22. 14 – One doesn’t have to be a Democrat to notice that Donald Trump is colossally self-absorbed, and concerned about nothing so much as whether he gets applause and glory.

It was the White House that turned a family’s tragedy into a chance for him to congratulate himself. And it’s defended by people who claimed to be morally offended when Obama put the spotlight on himself in a celebration of Rosa Parks.

  23. “It was the White House that turned a family’s tragedy into a chance for him to congratulate himself. And it’s defended by people who claimed to be morally offended when Obama put the spotlight on himself in a celebration of Rosa Parks.”

The media continues to manipulate those susceptible to buying their old, tired, desperate narrative.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  24. “Exactly coronello, like the ap and the times insisting the shooter gave his rationale outside of the edited portions of the manifesto.”

The only people who post on 8chan are white supremacists and pedophiles. You don’t need to read a word of his manifesto.

    Davethulhu (bc6fa6)

  25. “Let’s analyze this manifesto written by a stormfront poster. Whatever could his motive be?”

    Davethulhu (bc6fa6)

  26. Beware of people that tell you you don’t need to read this or that. The reason why they do this with the murderer’s manifesto is because it doesn’t support their “put the blame on Trump” bullschiff, it goes in another direction that they find much less useful for their purposes.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  27. The new jailhouse meme: “Trump made me do it.” It started with the hitman that killed the mob boss in New York, I think, and the leftist media just purely lurvs, lurvs, lurvs it.

  29. Haiku, you used the phrase “cherry-picked”. What, in your option, is the central theme of the manifesto?

    Davethulhu (bc6fa6)

  30. Let the families mourn. Stop politicizing everything.

As if this president didn’t politicize his visit by saying how big his crowds were compared to O’Rourke’s.

  31. Who waves the bloody shirt again, Johnny Lee Miller inoersonator

    Narciso (441918)

  32. The media continues to manipulate those susceptible to buying their old, tired, desperate narrative

I looked at THE PICTURE, and viewed it in light of Trump’s massive narcissism and obvious lack of empathy, and in light of Tito Anchondo’s words, quoted by Dave.

The truly “desperate narrative” is the one insisting that anyone who finds fault with Donald Trump in any way has been “manipulated” by the media — while those who contort themselves to defend everything he says and does are somehow clearheaded independent thinkers.

It’s bizarre that some people simply won’t accept the fact that Donald Trump makes himself repellent without any “media manipulation” to cast him “in the worst light.”

    Radegunda (3578a5)

  33. If I were so “susceptible” to “narratives” by the media, I would have revered Barack Obama. For some reason, I never did.

    Radegunda (3578a5)

  34. The truly “desperate narrative” is the one insisting that anyone who supports most of what Donald Trump does has been compromised, while those who contort themselves to defend condemn everything he says and does are somehow clearheaded independent thinkers.

    Your move…

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  35. I think Sammy has read it. I imagine the El Paso suspect’s defense attorneys have, too, and the prosecutors and police.

    DRJ (15874d)

  36. insisting that anyone who supports most of what Donald Trump does has been compromised,

Where did I insist or even say any such thing?
I commented on Trump’s inappropriately self-congratulatory photo-op with a family struck by tragedy, and on how it fits into his well-established obsession with being praised.

You responded with the insulting insinuation that my view of that photo had to be a result of weak-minded “susceptibility” to “manipulation” by the media.

What’s mystifying is why it bothers some people so very much when other people notice Trump’s dishonesty and self-serving behavior with their own eyes and ears.

    Radegunda (3578a5)

  37. There are, in fact, people who will turn on a dime in an effort to defend everything Trump does – and then claim that anyone who finds fault with Trump is parroting some “media narrative.”

It’s a very strange premise that independent thinking must necessarily lead to a love of Trump.

    Radegunda (3578a5)

  38. Trump can’t go to the bathroom without Kellyanne helping him with his zipper so it’s no surprise that he “gaffed”, but going to Dayton and El Paso, visiting the hospital, and meeting with the families, was still the right thing for a President of the United States to do.

Trump is incapable of expressing human feeling unless he’s reading it off a teleprompter.

    Dave (1bb933)

  40. 29… option? I’ve read some of the manifesto… the central theme is insanity. The killer covers various topics, some of it fairly lucid and within bounds of normal discourse, most of it extreme and beyond. The killer went out of his way to state that his conclusions predate Trump and he also correctly predicted how the media would frame his actions.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  41. Information is seldom useless.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  42. The killer went out of his way to state that his conclusions predate Trump

Yes, a loyal soldier in the MAGA army to the end.

In his case “pre-dating Trump” would mean his views were fully formed by the time he was 16 or 17, thereby discounting the last quarter of his life (or the last third, ignoring infant-hood).

    Dave (1bb933)

  43. @21.

    1. Dubya was not only cold, but tone-deaf.
    2. Trump tossing rolls of paper towels did not help them– or him.
    3. He is a publicity hound.

    End of story.

  44. “Our lifestyle is destroying the environment of our country … creating a massive burden for future generations. Corporations are heading the destruction of our environment by shamelessly over-harvesting resources … the next logical step is to decrease the number of people in America using resources. If we can get rid of enough people, then our way of life can become more sustainable.”

  46. 46… yes… and those excerpts were just a sample of the killer’s opinions that those who advise “you don’t need to read the manifesto” hope you don’t read… for obvious reasons.

    Colonel Haiku (2582ce)

  47. Yeah, whenever Trump tweets something its: Trump LASHES OUT or RANTS or BOILS WITH ANGER. Per the MSM. And then you read the tweet and its just a mild criticism of being misquoted or fake news. This has been going since August 2015.

As for Anthony Scaramucci. Another example of Trump’s bad people management. he sure can pick ’em. I’m surprised he hasn’t asked Bill Kristol to be his Chief of Staff. Any way, if this guy is trump’s “Friend” – trump doesn’t need enemies.

    rcocean (1a839e)

  48. Even I’m amazed at the MSM hatred of Trump and lack of class. I’d assumed that when the PRESIDENT OF THE USA visited the shooting victims with NO CAMERAS-NO REPORTERS, they would just respect that and move on. Instead they went on a jihad trying to find pictures/video they could twist and attack Trump with. I mean who cares about the shooting victims? All that counts is “Orange man bad”.

    rcocean (1a839e)

  49. And OT. It looks like the D’s are even pretending anymore. Robert Francis “Skateboard” O’ Rourke just stated that not only is Trump a racist, anyone who voted for him is a racist or “White supremacist”. And none of other D candidates have disagreed.

The D’s are making it plain. They hate “unwoke”, working/middle class white America, and they will do everything they can – if given the power – to harm them. Of course, RICH White people like O’Rourke will do just fine in their new America.
