Superior man charged with assaulting boy who was ‘disrespecting the national anthem’:

A 39-year-old Superior man was jailed this weekend for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old boy he believed, according to one witness, had disrespected the national anthem.

Curt James Brockway was arrested by Mineral County Sheriff’s deputies around 11 p.m. Saturday. Montana Department of Justice records show he is registered as a violent offender. Brockway made his initial appearance in Mineral County Justice Court on Monday, and was scheduled to be released on his own recognizance on Tuesday.

“There was a little boy lying on the ground,” she said. “He was bleeding out of his ears, seizing on the ground, just not coherent.” She said she recognized the boy as a family member’s neighbor.

  2. People have been shot over football games. And bar bets. And beaten to death over how to cook a hamburger.

  3. I wouldn’t call it “patriotism”, extreme or otherwise, when a grown man assaults a teenager like that. Anyway, the guy blew up his probation and I hope he stays a long while in the cooler.

  4. He’s an extreme a-hole. Patriotism was just his brand of excuse to be one

  5. So the guy is on probation, assaults a kid, yet is going to be released on his own recognizance (actually, probably already was yesterday)? What the hell?

  6. It’s actually a suspended ten-year prison sentence, not probation. How did he rate that? Is he a Daley nephew?

  7. I browsed a little.

Brockway’s side of the story: He told the kid to take his hat off during the national anthem, the kid cursed him, so he knocked him to the ground.

The hospital’s side of the story: They checked the kid for concussion or skull fracture, he did not have either, so they sent him home.

The mother’s side of the story: She wants Brockway to pay the hospital bills.

The father’s side of the story: None reported, neither father nor story.

  8. That sounds more plausible.

Yeah, this whole thing about the kid on the ground bloody and convulsing sounded pretty far-fetched to me.

  10. I am patriotic, but knocking other peoples kids to the ground over a dispute over the anthem seems like an over reach that the “patriotic” adult should medical bills pay for… unless there is insurance, in which case the insurance should sue the adult and the mom should get whatever the deductible is

I had a little urchin who was probably about 13 or so mouth off to me some years back when I told him to quit acting like a jerk (he was being loud and obnoxious in a public place). I knew I couldn’t deck him — I’m not that stupid — so I just said to him, “Wait here, boy, while I find a nine-year-old to come and kick your candy ass.” That was the best I could do.
