Today with Trump

RealDonaldTrump tweet — Social Media Summit today, plus Census news conference:

The White House will be hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today. Would I have become President without Social Media? Yes (probably)! At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference on the Census and Citizenship.

5:39 AM · Jul 11, 2019

Followed by this Trump Twitter thread from our “so great looking and smart, a true Stable Genius!” President:

A big subject today at the White House Social Media Summit will be the tremendous dishonesty, bias, discrimination and suppression practiced by certain companies. We will not let them get away with it much longer. The Fake News Media will also be there, but for a limited period..

….The Fake News is not as important, or as powerful, as Social Media. They have lost tremendous credibility since that day in November, 2016, that I came down the escalator with the person who was to become your future First Lady. When I ultimately leave office in six……

….years, or maybe 10 or 14 (just kidding), they will quickly go out of business for lack of credibility, or approval, from the public. That’s why they will all be Endorsing me at some point, one way or the other. Could you imagine having Sleepy Joe Biden, or @AlfredENeuman99,..

…or a very nervous and skinny version of Pocahontas (1000/24th), as your President, rather than what you have now, so great looking and smart, a true Stable Genius! Sorry to say that even Social Media would be driven out of business along with, and finally, the Fake News Media!

Up early today in the White House for Fox & Friends. I doubt he’s reading the excerpt of the Tim Alberta book at Politico.

  5. Heretofore, Republicans were always inept about establishing the narrative. It was as if they were always confronted with the question “when did you stop beating your wife” and answered it poorly. No matter what you might think of the President, it seems that he is a genius at establishing the narrative – even if it is the wrong narrative. It’s put the shoe on the other foot and the Democrats and the media have no idea how to deal with the situation.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the next edition of OED has “Donald Trump” as a definition for the word “troll.” I’ve never seen better.

  6. I like stable geniuses who know how to write one one-thousand twenty-fourth in Arabic numerals. It’s 1/1024th not 1000/24th, “genius”.

  7. #6 Trump has a gift for making the story about him, and sucking oxygen out of the room for anything else. When it comes to being a narcissist, and getting people to pay attention to him and only him, he is indeed a genius.

Y’know another person with that gift? AOC.

  8. BTW, “social media” has been around since Roman times. Except that they called it “graffiti”. Yup, writing on walls and other convenient places. Things ranging from politics to love poems.

    Fractions are hard.

And this is the guy who is trying to personally negotiate trade deals and set tariffs affecting millions of jobs.

  10. 10. Trump isn’t the first idiot to be elected president. He’s not the first man of dubious character to be elected president (by a longshot). But this particular mix of dubious character and proud idiocy appears to be unique in my lifetime.

Thank you! I couldn’t figure out what that meant.

  13. Looks like Trump got people talking about Warren’s fake heritage again.

  14. And his stupidity at math. Win-Win!

  15. I heard that Trump is going to hol apress conference today in which, it is reported, he will announce that he can authorize a citizenship question to be asked on the Census without going through the Administratve Procedures Act and will sign an executive order doing that.

    Why stop there?

Ask whether people currently possess various forms of ID. That’s a point of controversy.

How about a question, or questions, on vaccinations, at least for those age 15 or younger. And if anyone got the disease in spite of being vaccinated.

    Sammy Finkelman (8b217f)

  16. Trump talks about the Secretary of Labor like he’s responsible for the low level of unemplyment in the economy. He is charge of labor statistics Also various labor regulations.

There are some Democratic complaints about some of what he is doing.

    Sammy Finkelman (8b217f)

  17. Trumpistas are claiming that the rest of us just “don’t understand humor” if we notice the lunacy of Trump’s tweets. (“You just don’t get it!” exclaim the same people who are morally offended when their intelligence is questioned.)

So, Trump must have been joking when he called himself “smart.” Because everyone knows we should “take him seriously, not literally,” and that was seriously funny stuff, right?

No matter how insane Trump’s public statements are, the faithful can always haul out the “He’s just trolling” meme. The reason for his bizarre pronouncements, you see, is that they provoke other people to say “idiotic” things in response, and then all the righteous folk sit back and guffaw at how stooopid the NeverTrumpers are. Trump is a master troller, a genius, and they fall for it every time!

With their handy, all-purpose excuses on hand, the True Believers never have to admit what is so obvious to a rational mind.

  18. 11.

But this particular mix of dubious character and proud idiocy appears to be unique in my lifetime

It’s hard to think of anyone else in the public eye today who is so full of himself as Donald Trump, so bizarrely boastful, so openly self-serving in his view of right and wrong, and with such a grossly inflated estimate of his own mental powers.

How anyone could imagine there’s a thoughtful, caring, self-sacrificing hero beneath it all is a deep mystery.

  19. there is a certain tunnel vision, that cannot grasp fundamental realities of the world, we’ve been ceding space to foreign power, but domestic elements who are also alien to this country’s philosophies,
