Licker in Lufkin (UPDATED)

Filed under: Crime — DRJ @ 8:02 pm

[Headline from DRJ]

First the sale of Whataburger and now this:

Lufkin police are investigating a video of a serial Blue Bell ice cream licker and working to verify the identity of the female suspect before a warrant will be issued for her arrest on second-degree felony tampering with a consumer product charges.

On June 28, a video was released on social media of a woman licking Blue Bell ice cream before putting it back in the display case. Earlier this week, social media commenters identified the woman in the video as being from San Antonio, which led San Antonio law enforcement to believe it was from one of their Walmart stores. A store display case matching the one in the video could not be found. The search moved on to Houston Walmart stores after investigators learned the woman may be living with a boyfriend in that area, a release from Lufkin police states. Once again, the display case matching the one in the video could not be found.

Earlier Wednesday, Blue Bell corporate instructed all of its division managers to attempt to identify the store location. Within an hour, a Lufkin division manager called and said he believed it fit the Lufkin Walmart.

More here including a screenshot of “the lick.”

Word to the wise: Don’t mess with Blue Bell.

UPDATE 7/5/2019: Culprit identified but she is a juvenile (under 17) so this seems to be the end of story.

  2. I am a bit confused.
Where did the original video come from? Another Wal-Mart customer, I am assuming. Didn’t anyone try to contact that person and ask which store it was?

  3. I see a “Highway Men 2”, with Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, in the making.

I think the licker shared it (at least that’s been the trend). Because she thinks its funny. She probably will not feel this was fair, but screwing with food or medicine is a big deal. I imagine this trend will lead to a lot more packaging costs in a few years, and will probably also get someone out there sick. Making a public example with a legitimate Second Degree Felony prosecution is exactly the right way to handle this.

  6. I love Blue Bell ice cream. Their Natural Bean Vanilla is the closest to the homemade ice cream my grandmother made when I was a child, a lot better than their Homemade version, but I prefer Rocky Road.

Once, a friend and I were out driving around. We kind of got lost, but when we came across the Flue Bell factory in Brenham, we pulled over and kissed the parking lot.

I remember a couple of years ago there was some issue with e coli contamination at one of their plants. The company pulled all Blue Bell ice cream off the shelves throughout Texas. That was a bummer, a month without Blue Bell. Then one day I was out driving around, checking on properties, and I saw this Blue Bell delivery truck. I was like, what are they back? So I drove to the nearest HEB that evening. Sold out. Unbelievable, but totally believable, the day Blue Bell ice cream returned to the shelves, it was all gone before end of day. I want my Blue Bell! But there was none to be found. Just like that. Removed from the shelves for a month, the day it returned, it sold out in a few hours.

People love Blue Bell ice cream. It is the best.

And now we got some freak walking around, licking ice cream and returning it to shelves? What has happened to society, what kind of sick people have we become? Messing with ice cream, that’s beyond the pale.

As a Northwest Native I gotta’ go with Tillamook Oregon Strawberry. Nothing against Blue Bell (I’ve never tasted it). I just happen to be enjoy strawberry the best.

Never had a life threatening problem with it either.

Maybe the proximity to the border has a li’l sumtin’ sumtin’ to do with it.

  8. I’ve biked several times through Brenham, a charming town of about 17,000, which is home to Blue Bell, a great many genuinely contented cows, and during wildflower season, some of the most gorgeous bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush you’d ever hope to see. It’s a very friendly place, and yes, if they’re still offering it, the tour of the creamery is definitely worthwhile (there are samples of course).

  9. It’s silly to buy any edible which is not safety-sealed from a Walmart.

  10. For some reason, it sounds really familiar with this story.

  11. I understand that the licker was videoed by a friend and they posted it on social media, along with some comments that were encouraging others to do the same–she said she had the flu at the time and was trying to pass it along, or something to that effect. If this isn’t a felony, it should be–that we have to be protected from pigs like this is just ridiculous.

  12. I’m sorry. Are you not allowed to beat the…crp…out of people who are trespassing on your property and exposing themselves to your children? I thought that was still a thing. No? Or just not in Colorado? Was a law passed or something?

she said she had the flu at the time and was trying to pass it along, or something to that effect. If this isn’t a felony, it should be

You probably wouldn;’t want this to be the law. It’s rare (to deliberately try to infect peole) and it’s too eassy to accuse people who did that of trying to spread a doisease intentionally, when they did it unintentionally. But mayeb you can set higher standrds for proof (or premeditation) and in any case it poabably is covered by ccurrent law – trying to harm someoee isa crime regardless of how it might be accomplished. b=But for this you’d have to show either intention or a high probability of accomplishing this.

If someone deliberately infected President Zachary Taylor with cholera in 1850, it was murder, even in the absence of any specific law, if they were aware of the way chollera was spread, even if most people weren’t. (of course it wasn’t arsenic)

–that we have to be protected from pigs like this is just ridiculous.

  22. The Lufkin PD link says the police are discussing with prosecutors charges against the adult boyfriend who may have been the photographer and poster. (Nothing is clear because apparently other people tried to take credit for this. Have we really come to this?) I was thinking what charges might apply — Contributing to the delinquency of a minor? Accessory to tampering with food?

  23. Texas has the Model Penal Code’s “accountability” standard for confederates. If he was part of the licking enterprise, he is as guilty as she is even though he kept his tongue in his mouth. There are (or were) people in Texas who got the death penalty because their friends killed someone during a robbery while they themselves were outside with the getaway car.

Moreover, juvenile only means different treatment in the procedure and the disposition. The crime is the same. The judge cannot hit her with 20 years, but he could remand her to an indeterminate custodial term until she’s 21 if he finds her incorrigible.

    But Florida takes it seriously:

Cori E. Ward, 30, was arrested on a felony charge of tampering with a consumer product without regard for possible death or bodily injury, according to jail records from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Ward is not eligible for bond and is due in court on Friday.
