[Headline from DRJ]

In a follow-up to US NEWS: Another 16-Year-Old Migrant Child Has Died in Government Custody, CBS News reported last week that the Texas facility the boy was in stopped taking migrants because of an outbreak of flu:

U.S. border agents have temporarily stopped taking people into the primary facility for processing migrants in South Texas, a day after a 16-year-old diagnosed with the flu at the facility died. In a statement to CBS News late Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a large number of detainees in its processing center in McAllen, Texas, had high fevers and were displaying signs of a flu-related illness.

Due to the influx of migrants, the government also started moving migrants from Texas to other locations including San Diego. Now San Diego has a flu outbreak attributed to the migrants from Texas.

  1. I have the flu. Temp between 100.8 and 102.6 for the last 36 hours. Home-bound, no energy.

Hey, perfect for leaving a TON of comments on Patterico’s.

  2. I am so sorry, Beldar, but that is a positive attitude and great for those of us who like to read your comments — which I suspect is everyone.

  3. This situation is only going to get worse. republicans think it helps them get re-elected and democrats have been given no option by the left of their party.

  6. Imagine that! People from third world countries who are unvetted are getting sick and spreading it. Hope the judges and attorneys who want open borders get sick. I know that’s wrong but so what.

  7. I understand that feeling, Patricia. Most come here starving from a poor country so it is not surprising they get sick. I understand sympathizing and wanting to help them but we should be smart about it.

  8. What is the limit, DRJ, though? Do we fix the lives of any person who can make it to the border?

    Patricia (3363ec)

  9. Well, we have laws that grant asylum to people in certain circumstances and basically we are promising to help them. One problem is that, IMO, Obama expanded asylum to virtually everyone who could get here. That is not feasible but it is hard to change existing policies. That is why we need a President who can explain why and how we need change.

  10. For sure DRJ.

  11. Last Wednesday evening the CBS Evening News reportred that a 6th kid had died.

But if you paid careful attention, you’d realize it was a zeroth kid, and also that not all 5 were in the same category – not all were in custody at the time.

This one was a 2 1/2 year old girl from El Salvador (all the other 5 since December were from Guatemala.) And she had some kind of heart disease or defect and underwent surgery. She had been in custody for seven months or so, but had been released to her family in Nebraska when she died.

Maybe she was deliberately left in custody for so long so that the federal government would pay for her treatment.
